I wonder how long until we hear about some of the ads they sell being malware
I am entitled to my own opinion and that opinion is they can get fucked for all I care
so you prefer to not have websites, got it i bet you are a leecher on all your torrents, too
so you prefer to not have websites, got it i bet you are a leecher on all your torrents, too
other people will see ads, or something, not me bud also, nah, I leave my distros running for a long time, but purely so I could download more and not get fucked by a negative rating
so you prefer to not have websites, got it i bet you are a leecher on all your torrents, too
Now I'm not an expert on torrants but I don't think using the share option will open you up to viruses. You only get those if you're uncareful and download them yourself, right? Ads don't work that they, they host malware. You do not have to download it yourself, they can make it install itself without permission.
Literally fuck off I use ad blocker because I don't give a single flying vibrating crock of shit about ad revenue and whoever gets it, if I don't want ads I install an ad blocker to not see any ads
Honestly this is just being a ass about it. Internet ads already give little revenue compared to traditional ads, and I sincerely doubt people want to have a subscription for every service they use. How do you want the internet to work? Purely user generated content? Sure, right now you can have your cake and eat it, too, but if everyone does it suddenly it's not so fun.
also, mobile companies and isp's that have "built in adblockers" are doing the exact same thing. it's monopolising online advert revenue by either: accepting ransom payments for adverts to be unblocked, or replacing ads with their own via serving their own platform. i mean i wasn't comfortable with facebook automatically tailoring adverts, but they introduced a selector (that replaces an advert) to highlight what you're actually interested in seeing. so now my facebook feed has things related to IT services and programming, which i'm pretty fine with. it's better than seeing adverts for shit facebook games, cat food, or garbage lotto sites
I am entitled to my own opinion , and that opinion is they can get fucked for all I care
You sound like a really nice person. Hope you work for free as well.
this is the thing i've wanted most
Adblock (not plus) does this. I have a few channels Ive whitelisted on youtube https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/adblock/gighmmpiobklfepjocnamgkkbiglidom?hl=en-US
"i want everything to be free" would you prefer to pay to get into all your favorite websites, or for them to shut down for lack of funds?

so you prefer to not have websites, got it i bet you are a leecher on all your torrents, too
Don't you guys realize that the raw point of an Ad-blocker is to NOT see ANY ads, regardless of "ethics"? Ads are annoying and people don't want to see them. That's why ad-blockers were invented.
Good thing uBlock Origin saw through this bullshit before it happened
I'm not even bothered about ads in the first place, I just like to have less clutter on my screen. I'm perfectly okay with this as long as they aren't intrusive, I'm not too bothered about malware because I'm either extremely lucky or just not clicking on shit really does work, I've never had malware from ads or malware in general before.
You sound like a really nice person. Hope you work for free as well.
You miss the point I don't want developers to starve to death, however I do want my ad blocker to work as intended and BLOCK ADS

Websites rely on ads to make profit and actually stay up without needing public funding. fuCK MY MERGE
Sad to say, but most people don't give a shit and don't want to see any ads.
this particular adblocker is providing itself as an alternative what "most people" want is irrelevant; "most people" have other free options to suit their selfish desires
I wanna keep using UBO because it just runs faster than ABP for me. But I also would love to be able to whitelist certain Youtube channels as well. Don't think I'll ever go back to ABP even with this whitelisting availability. It just slowed everything down too much for me.
You miss the point I don't want developers to starve to death, however I do want my ad blocker to work as intended and BLOCK ADS
You don't want them to starve to death, but they can 'get fucked'? Yeah I'm sorry maybe you should've explained your actual stance instead. And yeah, get a different adblocker then because otherwise you can just get fucked really, that's my opinion and I'm entitled to it!
and ads were invented to keep content free. I get people have concerns about malware, but what's the harm if the ads are verified as being clean? Websites rely on ads to make profit and actually stay up without needing public funding. fuCK MY MERGE
That makes sense, and it's also a way for adblock to become more friendly with websites (i.e. less of the "turn off adblocker or you can't access the site" pages)
I mean the only reason we needed ad block in the first place was because ads were becoming too large, too ugly, too invasive, and too bad in taste. I'd be perfectly fine with ads in better taste, that didn't make the website look like shit or run like shit.
you're throwing a tantrum that a specific free adblocking app is tailoring itself towards users who both know there are alternatives and prefer to still help fund the websites they visit
and you're throwing a tantrum because god forbid someone doesn't want to do something he's not obliged to do
How about letting people choose what ads they see? I don't use an AdBlocker at all anymore since Ghostery+uMatrix do the job perfectly well but the only ads I allow anywhere are Project Wonderful's since they're simple and unobtrusive ones with some fairly strict standards. No external scripts and, as far as I know, no animations or flash or any other obnoxious bullshit.
and you're throwing a tantrum because god forbid someone doesn't want ot do something he's not obliged to do
i'm pointing out how selfish your attitude is you're throwing around language like "they can get fucked for wanting money to host their website fuck them"
. “And crucially, monetize the ad blockers on on their own terms.”
That's all fine and dandy, but my own terms are zero tolerance. You will not display a single advert on my machine. That is the whole reason I run ABP, the reason I have it cranked up to 11, why I disabled the whitelist, and this means I'm either never updating Firefox(And thus never need to update ABP itself) or if I'm forced to do so I'll switch to a different plugin that doesn't sell adspace.
i'm pointing out how selfish your attitude is you're throwing around language like "they can get fucked for wanting money to host their website fuck them"
It's not worth risking a drive-by download placing a trojan on my machine. I don't care how thoroughly the ads are vetted, it's still a vector for malware, and it's one I can completely close off. And I will do so. There is no convincing me otherwise.
Websites rely on ads to make profit and actually stay up without needing public funding.
Tell that to Maddox.xmission.com Tell that to Wikipedia Also, we should discuss this as adblock end users, not as marketing executives. I.E stop taking the side of big business. I prefer not to see any ads.
