I've already posted about three links showing cases where an ad using javascript "straight up infect[ed]" people without interaction, but here's another one just in-case you still aren't getting the memo.
https://www.onthewire.io/cyber-police-android-malware-infects-without-user-interaction/
Did you seriously not read the source and what i quoted? These infections were most likely caused by third party browser extension exploits not javascript. The reason why people get these viruses is because either they have not updated these extensions or they are typically not safe to use. If your going to cite something next time try reading it. Also in the second source yes they can happen but its very unlikely and are typically patched the same day they are released.
These people that use these tactics are looking for volume of infections and the best bet at getting a high volume of infections is abusing popular apps that arent updated too often.

"Lol you're paranoid"
You really are paranoid - I've never been infected with anything... 8+ years of countless OS installs, computer changes and visiting all manner of questionably insecure websites, my PC's have never done anything strange, my bank accounts have never been used without my permission, my email/site accounts have never been compromised, I'm telling you from experience that my common sense and vigilance in keeping up to date have kept me perfectly safe, I don't need an antivirus to protect me from myself and if a completely up to date browser and such can be injected with these nasty things as you so keep posting about then I must be incredibly lucky not to have been hit by any of it...
I'll keep doing what I'm doing and if there's a day I get fucked over I'll personally post it on Facepunch and tell everyone that you were totally right, but until that day comes I'm very happy not having annoying script blockers and whatever other bullshit you apparently "require" not to get infected.

I edited my original post before i saw your post. I wasnt talking about the most recent source sorry if it seemed that way but my point still stands

Good point. I've been smoking for ten years, too, and I don't have lung cancer. Proof about cancer must be bunk then. Same with seat belts. Haven't been in an accident yet so why bother with those?
Security comes in layers. I will deploy as many as I can to ensure safety. Common sense, antivirus, antimalware, firewall, adblockers, etc. are all different layers. When it comes to ensuring my bank account, my social security, my passwords and game accounts, and my family is safe I won't risk anything because one dude on an internet forum said he didn't get a virus, honest, so they must not exist and all the proof of them existing is clearly a conspiracy theory.

what is the 1% it saying it blocking on facepunch? how do i check what blocked stuff are?

Google analytic highly a likely, press the 'Open the logger' next to the 'on this page' text.
Also, common sense says to install an antivirus.

I feel like I came out the idiot on this one and want to apologize. I personally use adblock myself and advocate for it so i never meant for it to seem like i was against it. I also take pride in computer security type stuff because its kind of my main hobby and in my experience it doesnt happen too often to come across an exploit with javascript and if it does it doesnt last too long. Also sorry for completely ignoring the shit ton of sources you sent i didnt really see them because I was kind of ticked off and blinded by it all.
this thread exists because ABP is now providing a service whose sole purpose is to let "web hosts guarantee that they won't be serving me with malicious ads, ads which are intrusive or annoying, ads which track me, or ads which use an unreasonable amount of resources"
The last time we had a thread about ABP, I made a point which apparently needs to be made again.
Companies pay ABP to appear on their acceptable ad list. It's not some curated thing. Larger companies pay close to a 30% fee on their total ad revenue.
Their definition of "acceptable ad" is also laughable, because ABP allows companies like Taboola to pay their way through, with their awful clickbait ads:
[t]http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Screen-Shot-2015-02-03-at-10.07.51-AM-640x418.png[/t]
Eyeo is not making ads better, they're strong-arming ad companies to make a profit.
Whitelist the sites you care about, with an adblocker that isn't shit.
Google doesn't do a good job with filtering ads as is. I don't see why I should trust some other company with a sketchy history to do it better. With their claims of "user interests at heart" when clearly it's just a move to make a fuck ton of money.
They should rename their app too since blocking ads is no longer what it does. Maybe call it SafeAds or something.
Correction: You can still block all ads, but it's opt-in.

Ok paranoid dude!
*Continues to happily use computer without malware*
I like this if these ads don't have any of the following:
Animation
Sound
Sexual stuff
Stuff that is obviously some kind of scam
Video prerolls
So basically, the ads should be SFW images that come from legitimate advertisers.
And give people the ability to opt out.
Can you change your flashing, animated avatar with a static version, please?
How about we just get some optional universal wallet system that pays website owners a user wants to support fractions of a cent for each page I view? That way they make the same amount of money as if I'd seen an ad, but there's no ads?
I guess I'm going to have to start using uBlock Origin, then.
I've recently been thinking about using it instead of ABP, so this is yet another reason to move to it.
Since uMatrix has been brought up, I have a question about it: is uMatrix as good as NoScript?
One of the reasons I don't use Chrome is because NoScript isn't available for Chrome.
NoScript is my favorite add-on.
I'm sorry but I highly doubt the ads gave you viruses. Believe me I hate ads but getting malware on your computer is typically because you downloaded and ran an unsafe program. The only other way would be browser exploits and that's extremely unlikely.
WOW just talk out your ass it's ok
God damn man

good argument
i am forced to bow to superior intellect
Not only should you use adblock but you should use tracker blockers like disconnect or ghostery.
uMatrix is actually not needed since uBlock Origin has an advanced mode that includes it basically.

Although there might be small differences, not sure.
It's not quite the same, nor as flexible.

Use both and it fulfils the purposes of Adblock and Noscript, plus a bit more.

Of course if you don't know what you're doing, or load up on host filters, then you're going to break every page you visit. I have mine locked down so tight that any new website I visit requires a good 2 minutes of refreshing while I slowly enable what I require from the site and leave everything else blocked.
As an aside, for anyone new to uBlock, the eye dropper icon serves the purpose of element hiding from Adblocker.

Thanks, thread
So are they going to change the name to AdReplacementPlus?
ubo has been my goto adblocker since the release. Due to performance, acceptable ads turned off by default, and how light it is. If you run into sites that have adblock detectors, I heard turning on advanced mode and disabling first-party scripts bypasses it. You can also use umatrix while is pretty much a more detailed noscript.
A lot of sites are now able to detect adblocks.
Does ublock bypass their checks?
A lot of sites are now able to detect adblocks.

uBlock Origin has a Anti-Adblock Killer list, works well.
Side note, uBlock Origin is a wide-spectrum blocker, not just a simple adblocker. It can also block things like trackers, malware servers/sites etc.
"i want everything to be free"
would you prefer to pay to get into all your favorite websites, or for them to shut down for lack of funds?
Well I do pay $167 for my internet connection, so nothing's free. ISPs get all this money, get billions in tax breaks, have no competition with each other in the US, already oversaturate television with ads.... They should petition them for money, not my monitor
I'm generally fine with the ads on youtube and Twitch because that's real people doing their thing and getting direct support off of it, rather than a greedy corporation who wants that extra 0.5% on top of the millions they made that quarter, and there's 0% chance of it having malware since they're in the video
And ads that are made BY the people in the video are even better. Like Linus. They're short, concise, and most importantly RELATED and not about fucking Cialis or some shit
I now know of uBlock.

I don't know if you mean "uBlock Origins" or just "uBlock". I would recommend using the Origins variant, in case you aren't referring to that one already.
Good thing uBlock Origin saw through this bullshit before it happened
yeah but we gotta find a better adblock in a few years once ublock origin gets corrupted with this shit as well
(it's the cycle of history, don't kid yourself if you think it won't happen)
yeah but we gotta find a better adblock in a few years once ublock origin gets corrupted with this shit as well

Its open source so we can fork it if we need to, like what happened between ublock and ublock origin.
An important thing to remember is that the allowed ads will not be the really malicious or intrusive ones, since they actually have to get approved, unlike the normal no blocker ads.
