I have to use an adblocker on my phone since mobile website are plagued with the fake engrish virus warning that ends up lagging and crashing my browser. But the real factor is that more than half my fucking data was wasted by ads.
I'm completely ok with that since I at least know the ad money is going to the creator and the creators typically have respect for the people watching when it comes to ads.
No you don't. It could go to the creator, or to some other company that claimed the video for monetization purposes. How do you know? Google doesn't display this in YouTube, and it doesn't show the split of money (if any) either.
I'm already using a different one called adguard for my phone. After hearing this I will probably get a version for my pc and tell my dad to switch too since I just installed adblock for him. Ugh. Why does so much advertising need to be shoved down our throats? There needs to be laws passed that let you opt out completely when you sign up for internet or whatnot.
I'm completely ok with that since I at least know the ad money is going to the creator and the creators typically have respect for the people watching when it comes to ads.
I like watching them when I see them, because on YouTube that tends to end up being "2 minutes of extra unrelated something by the same person". It's like a bonus scene, even if its sole purpose is to provide yet another link for Audible.com's 30 day trial.
I only really run an adblocker because of pop ups and shit, which still appear even on websites that beg me to turn it off because they "only serve good ads!!!" Which is to say the idea of replacing shit ads with non-shit ads is fine with me. If it fucks up I'll find a different adblocker.
Normally I'd recommend Ghostery since that gives you fine-grained control so you can whitelist e.g. Project Wonderful, but currently it's broken so you can change the settings :v: [editline]18th September 2016[/editline]
[...] You can disable that.
There are two tracker parts: GhostRank and Support Ghostery. GhostRank collects information on which websites use which trackers and I think their performance and is opt-out (so on by default). Support Ghostery also collects behavioural data for more general analytics which can be sold and is opt-in (off by default). It asks about both of these during the set-up assistant though, so you're informed and turning GhostRank off takes a single click then.
There are two tracker parts: GhostRank and Support Ghostery.
I didn't even think about that when I made that psot, lol. Interestingly though I no longer even see GhostRank in the settings. Did they happen to remove it recently or something?

As I said though, I can't check because they broke it for me.

The ad is part of the content produced, the youtuber and a company have made a contractual agreement to place an ad in the actual video content rather than google just serving an ad alongside the video. There is no ad money for a company to claim from this ad since it isn't part of youtube's ad system. And I bet they'll get a better deal since they can negotiate their contract.
I like seeing ads, because I make a point of never buying anything from any company that annoys me with its advertising. I don't buy a lot any more.
"i deserve to get everything for free no matter what" -fp users
We already went through the whole argument about how ads, so long as they're allowed to use JavaScript, are a security risk and are not to be trusted.
"I can't be bothered reading threads before shitposting in them." -Eric95
um excuse me i read every post in the thread and that is my conclusion ads being a security risk is just a dumb excuse, you have antivirus for a reason. if you block the ads, you don't deserve the content
ads being a security risk is just a dumb excuse, you have antivirus for a reason.
Except for, you know, the part where antiviruses are imperfect and it's still completely possible to get malware with them. The last malware I got was through a Javascript exploit from a Google ad while both running an antivirus and MalwareBytes. Both of them managed to miss the malware until after the damage was already done.
"i deserve to get everything for free no matter what" -fp users
if there's a way to get something for free easily, especially clutter-free websites, i'll use it got a problem with that?
if you block the ads, you don't deserve the content
Well that's completely unreasonable to hear if I'm someone that donates directly to the creators...
eric is just upset hes not making mad dough from his work because of us evil ad block software users. Sorry pal, but as long as ads continue to be intrusive, annoying and potentially malicious, I'm sticking with keeping them off my browsing experience. I get that animation is real hard work, but you shouldn't act like an entitled prick about ad blocking software just because it gets in the way of your cash flow, especially since you got a patreon and legitimate fans supporting your work through it.
ads being a security risk is just a dumb excuse, you have antivirus for a reason. if you block the ads, you don't deserve the content
yes that's great but a big part of my anti virus is a modified hosts file to block ads and malware I pay for malware bytes. I use uBlock + Scriptblock. I block ads. That simple.
