• Kinect no longer mandatory for Xbox One
Though we’ve changed this requirement, Kinect is still an essential and integrated part of the Xbox One platform.
"We have already begun production plans and it is too late to take Kinect out and get down to a competitive price point, yet we have no choice but to do whatever we can to crawl out of the hole."
Yeah just the fact that Microsoft thought this was a good idea will no longer make me buy any products from them.
But what about when you need to update Windows 8?
Wow they are really bending over backwards trying to impress me now Guess what, I only care about the games, and the Xbone games are fucking shit, not interested
Almost would've been more likely to buy a Xbone if they hadn't changed everything just because of complaints. Almost.
yeah, companies that listen to consumers are dumb that's why the xbox one reveal event went over so well, because they took everything gamers were looking for and did the exact opposite I was going to buy an Xbox One back when kinect and internet were mandatory and used games were removed, but now that they've added back the features I want I'm less likely to buy their device
gg ms uninstall marketing
gg ms uninstall marketing
What?
Almost would've been more likely to buy a Xbone if they hadn't changed everything just because of complaints. Almost.
they should have changed it out of the goodness of their hearts : )
You can only change so much. The ps4 is better hardware and is $100 bucks cheaper.
Guess what, I only care about the games, and the Xbone games are fucking shit, not interested
Yeah, all those hundreds of Xbone games you know of
they should have changed it out of the goodness of their hearts : )
so are you trying to sound like a retard or is this just how you normally act
tbh I like this "backpedaling" It teaches microsoft to rethink their decisions so they're based around the consumer only
tbh I like this "backpedaling" It teaches microsoft to rethink their decisions so they're based around the consumer only
pretty much exactly this. the shit microsoft is doing only affects THEM negatively. everyone else benefits.
Yea, these posts are pretty contradictory. You say Sony is just a heartless corporation like Microsoft, yet you have to point out that people are being too hard on Microsoft???
Nope, people are just being biased.
I'm still in favor of the PS4 because of its $100 cheaper pricetag and also less expensive online subscription. However, I probably won't get either console anyway because I don't have money.
Make XBOX Live Gold cheaper. Did they removed region lock and also let's make Microsoft sell the XBone in Rainbow colour casing. I demand they have Rainbow multi colour casing for the Xbone including the controllers. I'm tired of consoles being just in Black colour. Tell them this NOW!
now make it USB instead of a proprietary connector and we'll be good to go
Without having researched it much, I'd imagine the reason it has the proprietary connector is because a regular USB socket cannot provide enough power to the device. [editline]13th August 2013[/editline]
You still have to buy it though, and it's still $100 more than the PS4. Unless they come out with a version without Kinect, which is doubtful.
If they don't make it mandatory developers probably won't make many games for it because they know that the vast majority of people won't purchase the device. The only way to make it stick is to make it mandatory; the price of it will probably come down and it does mean an additional 'controller'. It's kind of like how the Wii included the Wii Nunchuck even though it wasn't mandatory; if they hadn't then a lot of games wouldn't have used it.
Yeah, all those hundreds of Xbone games you know of
Exclusives, you knew exactly what I meant don't try to be clever
yeah, companies that listen to consumers are dumb that's why the xbox one reveal event went over so well, because they took everything gamers were looking for and did the exact opposite I was going to buy an Xbox One back when kinect and internet were mandatory and used games were removed, but now that they've added back the features I want I'm less likely to buy their device
Now you get a console in the year 2013 that relies on optical media. There was actually a lot more to what they were initially offering than 'used games'.
I don't know why this is funny. Knack is absolute trash, and I generally prefer Forza to GT as my racing game (Though DriveClub looks cool). Same with Halo to Killzone. Plus after the new DR3 trailer it looks like it'll be fine, AND Killer Instinct was a blast to play.
So the same regurgitated franchises appeal to you more? Have fun with that. You'll definitely regret it once the post-launch titles start coming out and Microsoft does the same thing they did here. [t]http://i.imgur.com/n1bJkxG.jpg[/t] [editline]12th August 2013[/editline] I have to admit, despite them taking the more mature "no fun allowed" approach to Dead Rising, I am still interested but not interested enough to go out and buy one. I'll wait until someone I know buys it or it gets ported over. Same with Killer Instinct, I'm an old KI fan and I've been waiting and waiting for over a decade for KI3 but now that it's here, I'm not prepared or willing to spend that much to enjoy one game. Last generation, I bought all three consoles. PS3 for the exclusives/multiplatform console games. Xbox 360 for the exclusives (back at launch there were a couple interesting ones and five or six good ones since 2008 but that's really it). The Wii for the exclusives and the PC for everything else (including available multiplatform games). I'm cutting Microsoft out of the equation this time, not because of the initial plans for the XB1 or the lack of games or even the backpedaling, it's just a case of "fool me once..." and I'd definitely be a fool to go out and spend $500 on the successor to the Xbox that is sitting right next to me and if I hadn't moved locations, it would be grey in color from all the dust it has collected since Halo Reach.
now make it USB instead of a proprietary connector and we'll be good to go
Actually Microsoft has been using USB for their controllers and other wired peripherals since the first Xbox. It's just that the design of the connector is proprietary.
They should make everything optional, but still offer all the perks if people stay online/use kinect/etc.
wow, fuck you microso$ft, there's nothing I hate more than companies who change their mind for the better, resulting in a more promising end product. bring back always-online drm and ban used games, I like the old xBONE

Not something that seems to add 25% MORE to the cost of the device. And frankly the nunchuck was also a way more conventional controller that people wouldn't mind using since it's natural for them still. I know why they are bundling it, to solve the chicken and egg problem so that devs are likely to use it more. But that cost is being placed on the consumer. Who don't want to pay it. The only way it would go over well is if MS made the price so neglibable that people would feel like it wasn't a big deal to pay for that addition. But you have people who A) don't even want a kinect ever, and B) don't want to pay for it. Those are two large reasons to shy away from it. Not wanting it, and not wanting to pay for it. That's the main reason I'm getting a PS4. It doesn't have a kinect.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/n1bJkxG.jpg[/t]
tbh I don't care about exclusives. It doesn't influence me to buy a new platform. If anyone starts saying "OH MY GOD XBOX ONE IS DEAD BECAUSE IT'S ONLY FOCUSSED ON KINECT" consider that the kinect is a unique compared to the wii and the playstation move, of course theres only going to be a few exclusives for the playstation move because the wii remote and the playstation move is almost the same fucking thing. I counted 25 total playstation move only non-exclusive games. More or less the same as the kinect.
I can just borrow my friend's console and games for exclusives. I'll stick to my PC, thank you very much. If I have the alternative, I'll take PC.
At least MS is fixing their mistakes one by one
Now you get a console in the year 2013 that relies on optical media. There was actually a lot more to what they were initially offering than 'used games'.
If that's what they were actually trying to do they fucked up horribly. The right way to do it would be to just not even have optical media at all, but they can't do that due to the influence of brick and mortars. Add to that the fact that console and PC gaming are different markets with different needs and expectations to begin with and you have all the reasons why the xbone isn't the steam box that microsoft people want you to think it is.
oh so we're hating on them for the sake of hating? that's cool, that's cool
oh so we're hating on them for the sake of hating? that's cool, that's cool
no we're still holding a grudge against them because they've been absolute dickbags before they backpedaled to more reasonable stances

That's the main reason I'm getting a PS4. It doesn't have a kinect.
The xbox is actually an inexpensive item for what it delivers (ditto for the Playstation). $5-600 for that kind of device is 'budget'. An iPhone costs less. I feel the current generation of consumer don't want to pay for anything and expect everything. They also seem to have little understanding of what the underlying problems are in supporting consoles in the first place (that being the huge amount of 'exclusive' games). I'm still kind of amazed how much of a stink people kicked up over second hand games when you see what is possible without them (online libraries of 500+ games which are instantly available, i.e. steam). So really, its a budget console, but people seem to have a very construed idea of what that means. Also, it will be a huge tool for conferencing / skyping (which microsoft now of course own). I think that will actually have just as much to do with Microsoft's strategy as Kinect games (think 2 years down the line when you can hook up grandma with a "skype box" for $300) There is another option that we will probably see which is webcam while playing (i.e. facecam); this has been a feature in the future timeline of Mumble (not implemented yet). Anyway, if the console doesn't do well in the first year, Microsoft will just throw money behind it until it does do well. The PS4 looks to me like the iPhone 5 (a company with a huge fanbase who are happy to rehash the same shit and ride their market share rather than do anything new). We'll see what happens soon enough.
