Wii is getting a redesign! Oh yeah, they're ditching backwards compatibility.

Backwards compatibility is probably the only reason anyone would get a wii at this point.
but that's a computer
WIIU ANNOUNCED
WII GETS REDESIGN AND LOSES GAMECUBE FUNCTIONALITY
stay classy nintendo
Nintendo really are desperate.
this is the best wii design
and this is why
computer, not wii
can't blame them for trying, they're making shit profit these days (see the 3DS drop)
Backwards compatibility is probably the only reason anyone would get a wii at this point.
If that was a the only reason, they would just get a gamecube.
Eh, really? Why couldn't they have made it sit flat and NOT taken away it's functionalities?
I mean does its backwards compatibility really have anything to do with the shape of it's casing?
Might have had something to do with the Gamecube controller and memory card ports that were on top of the original Wii.
But I don't know.
Hmm, it looks just like a Nintendo Wii development machine.
Hey guys if you want to play GC games do it on your Gamecube
looks like they want to kill the Wii and make sure people (gamers) get the Wii U
I still love my gamecube, lets me run debug mode on SSBM
Taunt with peach, dress disappears :smug:

Damnit Nintendo! I still had faith in you, I really did. :smith:
Who would buy a Wii that has less features than the older Wii models already out there?
Half the reason i got my wii is for gamecube comparability, most of the games on the wi now is shovel-ware anyway so the people buying it would probably have no need for gamecube comparability, still it's a stupid decision.
Makes sense from a marketing view since the Wii was pretty much the first console that Nintendo used to try and tap the non-gaming crowd. Since they would've never owned a Gamecube they wouldn't need b/c. Besides, any Nintendo fan who wanted the b/c to play Wii and GC games would've bought the Wii by now
Who cares about backwards compatibility? A used gamecube is like, 30 bucks and computers have gotten to the point where we can emulate Gamecubes anyway.
I only use my Wii to play gamecube games
Hey guys if you want to play GC games do it on your Gamecube
a major selling point for the wii was the backwards compatibility, dork
The only reason I have a black Wii is for Monster Hunter Tri.
Fucking Capcom and pulling it out of PS3 cause they're cheap. If it also wasn't for my GF 'loving' the controller, it is a paperweight. Though it is useful to use Netflix on, that's about it...
It's actions like this that are going to put Nintendo out of business.
Put me at the top for a year, watch the companies value skyrocket.

I think it's funny that emulators for the Wii actually can run the games better than the system can now. Higher resolutions, AA, etc.
This is dumb, I mean the Wii is designed to sit either vertically OR horizontally already.
Damn this! I want some news about the WII-U
does removing backwards compatibility save them money in any way?
does removing backwards compatibility save them money in any way?
If anything, they'd lose money from loss of sales in the Wii store. I think the only 'benefit' of this system is probably durability or appearance. Who knows what they're thinking, it's shameful.
there's absolutely no reason to remove gamecube compatibility. it's not like it required extra hardware since the wii's architecture was so similar to the gamecube's
The original wii you could lay flat if you wanted to. I knew lots of people who did it. It has the rubber feet on the side too. Nintendo what are you doing?

a gamecube disk should shoot out of it right as it falls over
Doesn't really matter since anyone who was interested in playing GC games on the Wii probably has one already. I'm guessing the Wii-U will have GC games on it's virtual console.
Mine is already sitting flat fuck your redesigning nintendo
also the controller port lid things don't open properly when it's laying down, but it's not worth redesigning for.
