Wii is getting a redesign! Oh yeah, they're ditching backwards compatibility.

It's only in europe only
USA and other countries are staying the way it is.
Europe will phase out the old model

I believe the intention here is to make it cheaper to produce to generate more profit off of all seven people who don't own one.
It's still 480p

well no shit sherlock it's a redesign of the original wii not the wii u
this is like redesigning a hot rod and turning it into a tricycle
Are you fucking me? The Gamecube. The LAST fucking thing Nintendo did right, and they're going to stop you from playing all the amazing games it had?
The Gamecube is the last Nintendo product I've bought. Seems like a great choice so far.

Did I ever say it was?
It's probably so they can put gamecube titles on the Wii-Shop.
what the fuck nintendo, why would you ditch one of the few things the wii had going for it? i guess you could just buy an original wii but still wtf

a lot of people live in europe
It's pretty stupid though. Backwards compatibility is possible because the hardware is so similar. They just seem to be trying to save a little money by not including the controler ports/memory card port.
I remember when you used to be good, Nintendo.
Did I ever say it was?
you don't upgrade the hardware on a rerelease of a console you schmuck
No backwards compatibility!?
What will I do with all the twelve games that came with the first one!?
If that was a the only reason, they would just get a gamecube.
Ever wonder if people do more than just play games on their consoles? Well they do.
Is there any guarantee it's because of a hardware redesign? Maybe they're just pulling code or something. I mean, they said it would take more than a firmware update to play DVDs. Maybe it'll be possible to re-enable GC support through homebrew.
Looks like I'll either be purchasing an older Wii now or just a Gamecube.
nintendo is now a bitch, no wonder they're losing sales.
The 3DS is still meant to target the casual audience, but the casual audience has no idea what they're laying their cash down on.
The casual market has move unto iOS and Android.

Isn't it possible to play DVDs on the Wii with homebrew?
That's my point. Nintendo implied the Wii didn't have the necessary hardware to play DVDs when it did. Maybe that means the new Wii is still capable of playing GC games and Nintendo just removed support through the software. Then the homebrew community can piece together something to allow it to play those games again.
Though it is useful to use Netflix on, that's about it...
Except the Wii can only output 480p, not even DVD quality
Are they expecting for us to buy both the the new wii and the wii u? Won't the wii u support wii games?

there's still the problem of no gamecube controller ports and even if the gamecube emulation can be reneabled it's impossible for the wii to use certain features(pretty much everything that isn't a part of the original gamecube) while in gamecube mode, which means that you couldn't even use the classic controller or anything
