Are the buttons pressure sensitive? If they're not, then this is completely useless.
Can this also be use for blind people? This could make computers etc more accessible for them.
This technology could be used for these devices to support a Braille font.
I've got a microwave in the garage that has a tactile interface. Come on phone, get with the times.
Holy fuck this is cool. I remember before I got my Galaxy S2, I thought I would hate touch screen. I used to be able to text friends without looking at my phone because I knew where the buttons were, not with normal touch screen. I had thought about buttons rising out of a phone and how cool it would be but I thought it would be impossible.

At least they took the effort of not just placing his fingers on random letters.

swype
swiftkey flow
other swype-like keyboards
This shit was considered Hollywood science fiction like 20 years ago.
I think that they could have phrased it better than "lumpy," maybe "dynamic tactile interface."
Also I would be afraid of ripping the bubbles on like a sharp metal surface or something.

Or cumlube.

There probably exists a risk that the controlled liquid inside will break the surface after months or years of use.

great
Wasn't this pointed out in another thread about this that the keys were static bubbles? The software would have to conform to the shape of the keyboard.
Actually, they're not. That was disproven in the exact same thread.

I think the first thumb is over "C" because he just typed it, I believe the other thumb is going for "H" to spell out cheese, to make an omelet with that olive oil and the eggs.
Tbh I really don't think the appeal of a mechanical keyboard even begins to be reducible to being bumpy. It doesn't matter how bumpy a touchscreen gets; it won't be able to give the same satisfying feedback of a mechanical keyboard.

To clear some stuff up: the "buttons" can switch between multiple pre-configured layouts, if I understood this paper correctly: http://www.tactustechnology.com/documents/Tactus_Technology_White_Paper.pdf
That kinda diminishes the greatness of this invention, if true.

Diminishes fucking nothing. This is the very first case where we can, commercially, have a tactile touchscreen that switches between functions.
How entitled must you be to handwave technological advancements?
This + the disney texturizers would be really cool to see in the next-next-next'th generation tablets
Depending on how quickly these can pop up and then fade back and how the screens longevity compares to a flat screen
[SUB]and you know, how the "keys" actually feel[/SUB]
this could potentially be fantastic.
If not then it's a good start, I know that Nokia had this in mind for a while but they've also pretty much killed their R&D department during the recession, so I'm not surprised a smaller company beat them to it.

What's with all this "entitled" stuff, some of us just don't think it's as cool
