Why does this too have so many agrees? Does Facepunch work on nothing but mob mentality? what's the problem with giving a dog away if it's having trouble adapting to other dogs and is causing the owner too much trouble? Why is giving an animal away being a terrible owner, he'd be worse if he kept the dog even if he didn't like it.

Would you put up your kid for adoption if it picked up your car keys from the kitchen table and crashed your Aston, and you "don't like him anymore" because of it? Yeah, yeah, dogs are not humans, yaddah, yaddah. Of course we care more about humans than about dogs - they're our species. But apart from that, it's the same fucking thing.
Let me put it in simple words:
A dog is a living being, with feelings and all that. Like a human, just much dumber than most.
And even though dogs are not strictly pack animals like wolves are, they are very social. It is a traumatic experience for a dog to be abandoned by the person/animal he looked to for care.
A dog is NOT a toy that you should buy and then realize "Hey I don't like it anymore, I'll give it away."
A dog is also not quite as intelligent as a human. Dogs are eager to learn what you teach them, but they're shit at thinking for themselves (so basically the opposite of cats). Your dog doesn't understand the value of your things. It will, however, look to you for guidance, and accept a very great number of things it's not allowed to do. If your dog gets crazy enough to eat half a quarterpanel from your car, and is able to go through with it without anyone noticing, it's YOUR fault, not the dog's.
So this person is showing very little sense of responsibility when he decides to give away the dog over something that was essentially his own fault. That's why he is a bad owner. If he's happy to give his companion away as soon as the going gets tough, he shouldn't have fucking got one in the first place. That's not the purpose of having an animal companion.

You're saying that, even though this wasn't his only dog?
Sometimes things don't work out, each dog is different and some cooperate more than others.
It's not like he had the dog for a week either. He didn't abuse the dog, or abandon it, he gave it to someone else willing to take care of it, which is a perfectly fine and humane solution.
Maybe he thought this one would be as easy as his other dogs. Was that a mistake? Arguable. Does he deserve to have shit flung at him for it? Absolutely not.
