Aspergers has been tainted by the people who self diagnose themselves with it. poor social skills =/= aspergers.
Self diagnosis is a whole new problem in itself. It can actually be incredibly dangerous because people often miss the nuances associated with the illness they "claim" to have. Its actually a coping method with some people.
People who claim to have autism and those who call it 'assburgers' annoy me equally. They need to come and see what somebody with autism REALLY looks like. It's a depressing disorder.
I'm late here, but I completely agree. I've got aspergers, and it pretty much wrecked my school years.

I part-self diagnosed when I was at uni and was diagnosed as a result in the final year. I never decided I had it, I just thought it was a possibility and approached the people who could help me determine if I did or not.
self diagnosis is fucking terrible. can you imagine what a 7 year old with a 10,000 paged john hopkin's medical book can diagnose himself with? i was convinced i had detached retinas for 3 years straight.
Whatever, man.
Oh, wait. Sorry guys, we all have "autism spectrum disorders" now. Maybe it'll at least mean fewer assburgers jokes?
No you don't. I'm sorry, I take offense to that statement, and I don't see how someone on the Spectrum in the right mind, would start such a disrespectful and hurftul place, where statements like that are acceptable, and considered funny, and your unaccepted for having your own opinion that speaks otherwise. It's not funny, I don't go on TV and crack about Neuro Typical bred jokes, where as Kat Dennings did on her show on CBS, just this past week, not to mention Family Guy in the past, I could go on, but what's the point. It's too often a majority think's it's okay, bullying in my book, don't like my attitude, take it up with the rest of the teachers union about it.
Okay, I hate to bump this, but I found someone with wonderful insight. [editline]15th December 2012[/editline] Predicted the demise of Asperger's Syndrome, poster of the year 2012.
It was known back when that was posted that this was a likely thing to happen in the DSM V so not really that much of an impressive prediction
My question as someone without autism at all is why sonic the hedgehog?
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21984201
