They know they're not as good as the Beatles, they're just comparing their popularity. I think he's wrong in that respect as well, but I wasn't exactly around when the Beatles came to America so I wouldn't know.
To be entirely fair, I'm almost certain they're on equal footing fan-wise The information era is a crazy time.
Ya, when the beatles played, the population of the earth was not so high as of right now.
The population might not have been high but at least the Beatles were
Yep, Beatles were a boy band
everyone else in the thread can see it everyone else but you
the beatles' initial pop phase was pretty good though let's be real here
I'm not so sure we can say "Well, in their early years the Beatles were just like One Direction." Whilst their music was certainly similar, the Beatles were also experimenting with instrumentation even then- for instance, Love Me Do was such an extremely simple song, compared to most other 'popular' songs at the time, that it probably played a part in them being so successful almost from the start. The lyrics might not have been top-notch, but even though some of it might sound cookie-cutter today, at the time they were one of the pioneers of what we now consider 'pop'. I don't know, maybe this is just my Beatles bias showing, but I feel like the 'they started off just like One Direction' thing isn't really an accurate argument.

Though I doubt it.

The Beatles are not overrated [editline]13th February 2014[/editline]
Spoken Word Music:
This album is considered the 'rape of Jim Morrison' because he recorded all of his spoken word poetry without music, only after he died did the remaining band members decide to add some music behind it.
