Also he ejected THROUGH the canopy, which I believe is normally supposed to be launched off the plane before the pilot goes.

um... i'm sorry but that's not how modern military hardware works. stuff like this doesn't just get old, or out of shape, as you put it, and then break and kill pilots. you can maintain anything and keep it safe. why do you think there are spitfires that are still perfectly functioning and safe to fly? there's nothing wrong with the hawk at all. a ground crew or pilot error does not mean an aircraft is unsafe

Well, airframes get tired and after so many years get generally just unsafe to fly regularly. I hear that's one of the contributing factors as to why the RAF Harrier fleet was retired, just because most of the planes were shagged.
BAE Hawk is getting a bit long in the tooth perhaps? I don't know.
