Battery fires
Explosions
Electrocution
All three of which could threaten your life. I'd sacrifice a few extra bucks to not die instead of dying due to cheap shit. Get my point?
uh i haven't heard of any Samsung tablets exploding or electrocuting people. you know, i'm just purely talking about competitive pricing, not oversights in health and safety.
Being uninformed in an age where there are devices that put the collective sum of humanities knowledge at your fingertips seems more like a deliberate effort to be misinformed.
oh yeah they're deliberately trying to not know about tablets.
plus of you have "the collective sum of humanities knowledge at your fingertips" why would you bother with learning about tablets?

Oh I dunno maybe since you're planning to go out and buy one for large sums of money you could be fucked to do a little bit of reading.
It probably doesn't help that the vast majority of Best Buy associates seem to be idiots themselves.
If the person peddling the product can't explain the difference to an accurate degree to where the consumer understands, blame should not be placed on Samsung in this instance.
I dunno, just a different perspective I guess.

And now we come to GPUs. Say you see an AMD Radeon 7970 for $400. Then, you see a NVIDIA GTX 680 for just $100 more. The Radeon performs worse than the GTX 680. The obvious choice would be the 680.
Sometimes, if you demand performance, you'll need to sacrifice more money, but it'd be worth the extra money.
Shit, bought a Royal crown cola when I meant to buy a Pepsi, I want my money back because both cans are blue therefor I can't tell the difference!
I also bought Coca-cola on accident when I meant to buy Big K cola, because they are both red therefor I can't tell the difference!
I'm gonna go ahead and think the bestbuy thing was staged by apple's PR or something because nobody's that stupid
People can definitely be that stupid and more, but I really wouldn't be surprised if Apple staged this.
Samsung and/or best buy are offering spliffs (Commisson) per unit ontop of the sales commisson. This is leading the sales floor guys in best buy to attempt to sell these tablets and give the customer the idea that it is an ipad.
It's not samsung or apple (If this wasn't staged), It's best buy's employees being idiots.

This happens at my work all the time. We sell shitty "unbranded" cola that comes in both red/white boxes and blue/red boxes and are placed right beside the actual coke/pepsi products and customers are constantly picking up the unbranded one, thinking it was coke/pepsi.
Anyway, it's not Samsung's fault customers are complete idiots.

Oh yeah I totally thought they were the same thing because they totally look the same
Basically Apple's claiming that because Samsung copied the iPad and iOS and selling most of those products for a lower price, people are getting confused and buying Samsung products instead of Apple products, and therefore hurting Apple's sales. And this article demonstrates that phenomenon to some extent.
"Hey I'd like to buy that iPad"
"dude this is a Samsung tablet"
"so can I buy that iPad?"

Actually the original box for the Galaxy Tab does indeed look pretty similar to the iPad box. It still says Samsung in big letters on the box, but still.

That's what I don't understand. Usually the high end electronics at Best Buy are locked up behind glass so I have no idea how they could ask for an iPad and end up with a Samsung tablet.
Unless they just pointed at the Galaxy Tab and said they wanted that tablet.
So I just bought an iPad.

How do I turn it on.
Staff were probably saying "it's like an iPad" and they ended up not liking it.
You gotta be 3 different kinds of inattentive to not be able to double check you have the right product in your hands BEFORE buying it.
The Galaxy Tab is a nice alternative though.
This is the funniest thing I ever read.
What if they're actually Apple employees/fanboys and they're trying to make a case for Apple
I bet this is kind of like Chick-Fil-E's fictional facebook defender. Apple has to be paying for this, because America's courts are occasionally (often) tech-illiterate enough to buy it.
Hey, what tablet ARE they talking about? The one that most closely resembles the iPad is the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, but the one they're using in the article's picture is the Galaxy Tab 10.1N, that was specifically approved by a German judge instead of the original 10.1. Now, the only one that is plainly called "Galaxy Tab" is the, well, Galaxy Tab. That's a 7" tablet, and if you've ever seen an iPad anywhere you would notice both the size difference and the lack of the home button. Especially when the Galaxy Tab ran 2.3 and had 4 capacitive buttons at the button. I could kinda understand some guy mistaking a real-life Galaxy Tab 10.1 for an iPad at a distance, but they've got different aspect ratios (and Apple lawyers actually manipulated that at one point) and the backs are ditinctively different from eachother. The box art posted on this page doesn't look anything like any Apple product's ever released, so I think this is simply a case of both crappy journalism and consumers that really don't know anything about what they're buying. Hell, my dad calls my HTC Radar "your iPhone" and to be honest I don't think he differs greatly from the general population. For the technically illiterate, a tablet is an iPad and a smartphone an iPhone.
Samsung Galaxy Tablet
=
Apple iPad
:whatthefuck:
What if they're actually Apple employees/fanboys and they're trying to make a case for Apple
Lets assume that everybody who returned it is just an Apple fanboy or whatever excuse people want to use, what about the statements from the Samsung employees, or their lawyers not being able to tell the different between the Galaxy Tab and iPad from looking at it?
Are they all Apple fanboys as well?

That was the most bullshit argument, they were 5 meters away and basically all touch screen devices are a small frame around a screen. The major differences are in the hardware specifications and software, and judging it based on that they're very different.
Yes, it is silly to assume that literally everyone doing this is a paid employee, it wouldn't be a stretch that some of them are - companies pay people to do shit like this all the time. It's even less of a stretch considering apple's marketing strategies
5 meters isn't that far away, for me it's just from where I'm sitting to the far wall, and I can see the difference in things from that distance.
Even then, if the only differences are in hardware specs and software, wouldn't that help Apples case?
Even then, if the only differences are in hardware specs and software, wouldn't that help Apples case?
That's arguable, people are allowed to use generic designs when making products. If so, every single laptop wouldn't use an almost identical layout, for example.
The fact that the software and hardware are totally different could easily help Samsung, but some of Apple's bullshit patents are software patents.
Better sue every company that ever produced a product because some things have very similar designs. All flatscreen TV making companies, yeah they're infringing on patents and shit because they have flat screens. Oh and since a Lego brick and a real brick are so similar in design, maybe the brick making companies should sue Lego because real bricks have been around longer.
The thing has samsung printed on it...
The entire interface is different...
How? How do functional adults drop over a hundred dollars on a product without properly checking what it actually is?
"I don't think it's in iPad."
"Look at the packaging, dumbfuck. S-A-M-S-U-N-G. That spells Apple."
ITT
technology illiterate plebians and old people buying things that remotely resemble what they think everyone else is SOOOO OBSESSED OVER GOTTA HAVE IT.

It seems like you're implying that this doesn't occur everywhere

True, but it seems USA has more fanatical news articles like this
