Imho america appears a very religious country. Catholicism is in the every day life, in the politics and in the rhetoric of those politics.
The title of the game is probably the biggest reason the game was considered too religiously questionable, as the name is directly referencing the Bible.
I'm sure that even if it didn't have other graphical content, games like Jesus Christ Spacebattle, Buddha's quest for action, Moses' extreme underwater racing, and Prophet Pinball would still be a pretty sensitive subject even if not graphical.
Which is a shame, because I would totally play Jesus Christ Spacebattle, because that sounds fucking awesome.
Super Meat Boy was not released on Wii Ware, but not because of questionable content or anything like that.
Team Meat ultimately decided to not release Super Meat Boy on Wii, because the size restriction for games on Wii Ware would force them to heavily cut down on the game content for their Wii version. Since they felt it would not be fair to give Wii owners a significantly less complete gameplay experience than the PC and 360 owners, they decided to not release it on Wii.

The second to last boss in Isaac is Satan IIRC. The last boss being Isaac's mom.
And the intro to the game explains how Isaac's mom thinks Isaac is possessed by demons so she throws him in the basement to die. So like how the title references the Bible story it's about sacrificing Isaac to god basically.
It is a very good game.
I think it's too hard.
I haven't gotten past the 3rd level. It just becomes too tedious to keep starting over from the first level and die midway through.

Yeah you don't know shit.
America is protestant friendly, but many anglios do not approve of Catholicism.

I thought satan was the final boss, and Isaac threw himself in the basement?
Just slap a fucking M rating on it and release it you pricks
I had my doubts for this exact reason when I heard they were trying to release it on the 3DS with all the gore and religious content. I thought it would of been blocked just for the gore and that it would of had to of been reduced which would of been fine but nah, companies have to start to understand that religious nuts are no one to be scared about. Religion is a belief and I believe companies like Nintendo are pussies.
There are plently of games with tons of blood and gore on nintendo consoles.
Just look at madworld or no more heroes
okay, there are some games

It would not be supprising if it did have to do with religion
The anime Trinity blood basically got fucked over because of how much religious content it had

Welcome to the world of roguelikes, they're supposed to be like that.
Also, I'm not really all that surprised, between the religious references, gore, shit, piss, blood, and context of the story itself, it is rather off putting.
That being said it's a great game.
They should try to get it on the Vita. Nintendo would be mad, bros.
Why would they be mad? They don't want it.
I have never playing The Binding of Isaac but I heard of it. What exactly is the "religious content" in the game? The name Isaac?
I have never playing The Binding of Isaac but I heard of it. What exactly is the "religious content" in the game? The name Isaac?
It's based heavily around an old Hebrew story called "The Binding of Isaac" in which Abraham attempts to sacrifice his son to God but is stopped in the last moments.
The game also has numerous religious references, along with the Bible, Book of Revelations, Halo and Crown of Thorns being items, Satan being a final boss, and acquiring powerful items by making blood pacts (exchanging max life for items)
99% sure all the playable characters, except for ???, are also biblical stories. Also the upcoming expansion "Wrath of Lamb"
since nintendo rejected it they are eyeballing the ps3/vita

I'm not really surprised. Binding of Isaac is an excellent game, but it's really twisted and gory; I can see why Nintendo would refuse it. There's also, of course, the religious content, which would probably get hundreds of soccer mom's panties in a twist.
Sucks that I'll never be able to die in a basement repeatedly in 3D.
3D Binding of Isaac would actually be pretty cool, maybe we should petition Nintendo to really reconsider. I'd buy it if it had 3D, definitely.
After deciding to get the game myself, I realized[sp]that it's really fun and addictive as hell, and[/sp]that the game had a lot more religious content than I actually thought in my previous post.
There's tons of religious references in the game. Aside from the title, the story is very directly referencing Christianity, the majority of the unlockable characters are named after religious figures (such as Eve and Judas), there's a couple or bosses that reference things from the bible (like the 7 sins all as mini-bosses), there's a secret room where you can make "deals" with the devil, and there's plenty of upgrade items like The Whore of Babylon, The Bible, The Book of Revelations, Blood of the Martyr, The Relic, etc.
Needless to say... I can sort of see why this might be considered a bit too "risky" :v:
Oh god damnit this was the closed to Isaac on the bus as I had.
FUCK

Don't you have a small laptop? Isaac doesn't require much specifications to run if I remember correctly.
What I like about Nintendo is how they're kid friendly (imagine Legend of Zelda God of War style) - but they should definitely reconsider this choice. Putting violent games on their new consoles will drastically increase their sales.
They should get Shigeru back in the CEO seat. That guy knew how to get shit done.
Nintendo has pretty much always been the leader of innovation and now it's gone to a halt unfortunately. What their new consoles need is better internet support. The current system is just shit.

The smallest laptop I have would be too much of a hastle to bring with me to school. Not saying that I have a 3DS, but there could've been hope for an emulator.

Nintendo needs to stop focusing on making videogames for people who usually do not like videogames.
Yeah sure it's nice to get them in on the action and there should still be games made for them, but they should not be your target audience.
Nintendo needs to have more games for people who play games as their hobby. People who on their free time, relax by playing a good game. People who want a challenge, a good storyline, good online multiplayer, good visuals, and fun immersive gameplay. You don't always have tons of friends around to play on the same screen, you don't always want to wave your arms around in the air to get exercise when you play games, waving your arms around in the air does not always allow you the same precision as a controller, and not everyone wants to play the same reincarnation of Super Mario or Legend of Zelda over and over.

You'd be surprised, it runs pretty sluggishly on low end computers
On my laptop it runs relatively okay on low settings, but crashes whenever I kill Satan

Well, it uses flash, so uh. "Low specs" is a bit optimistic.

99% of the game is related to religion in some way.

Even the poop you shatter with your tears?
Even the poop you shatter with your tears?
Definitely.
That's odd. They allowed an RPG called Devil Survivor and you could summon notable religious deities in it.
Also in golden sun, all of the summons are greek and roman gods
