To be honest a Mass Effect movie actually doesn't sound bad if done right.
Movies about games never end up good.

THIS. Every time some movie rights get bought everyone acts like it's big news, then the movie gets quietly canceled a few months down the line.

Going by the trailers, and the box art for ME1, male Shepard is the canonical Shepard. So probably male Shepard.
