Something stupid, and someone's probably gonna take legal action
in other news square has patched out any language support following the phenominal japanese DLC, and now offers the option of having text and voices in the game in any language, for 30$ extra, without it, you just get a bunch of textless options as well as no voices, it really improved gameplay

im guessing they did this really to redub the entire game and hired japanese voice actors, but they should at least make the dlc cheaper if they are gonna do this, like 1-5$ and leave japanese text in the game at least, cas now japanese players that don't know english are royaly screwed over

If this is indeed the case, that's hilarious.
Ok so...
Why the fuck would they remove the language support then repackage it as DLC instead of say, just raising the price for Tomb Raider on Steam in Japan to $80 like it was supposed to be?
Then they've fixed the problem, but without being a dick to the people who've already bought the game and subsequently pissing off the international community.
After reviewing everything, I don't see a problem with this. If you buy the Japanese version it is 80 USD, people were importing it for 50 USD. 50+30=80
The game isn't even out in Japan yet officially.

Wow you were just insensitive to three countries at once IN A SINGLE SENTENCE. That must be a new world record there. America literally nothing to do with this and neither does China. If you seriously thought Japan was a communist country then that's even worse. Leave this place and never return. On topic though this is beyond stupid. What if by some chance a person just didn't want to read everything in subtitles without having to pay for enough to get an entirely new game?

This fiasco could have been avoided if they had just released them at the same time.

Considering the actual price in Japan is 80 USD for the game (which will include Japanese) there is no difference in price

It's still a dick move to patch out the language support for people who'd already bought the game.
Say you went to a fast food joint and bought a burger. Then just as you're about to eat it, the cashier comes up, takes the burger out of your hands, removes the patty and gives the rest of the burger back to you, saying "Sorry, I accidentally undercharged you, you can have the patty back for another $5".
You gave them money, you received the product you paid for, then they take away part of the product because they made a mistake. That's not right at all to me.

Square enix is based in japan silly.
It's like ebay.
iPad 1. Normal used price: $200
Price: $25
Shipping: $175
well those darn japs will just have to put up with not knowing what is happening like when i play their porno games
The sad thing is Square honestly thought Tomb Raider would sell 7million in the first month and expected it to do so, otherwise it was a failure
Guess what no even close lol
ffs if Square really needs money that bad why don't they just make an HD FF7. people would eat that shit up, me included
ffs if Square really needs money that bad why don't they just make an HD FF7. people would eat that shit up, me included
For some reason a lot of people on Facepunch have this bizarre "reason" for why they haven't done that. Want to know why?
Because if they remake FF7, nobody will ever buy a Final Fantasy game ever again? Because that's how logic works!
I just don't fucking get it. Either way, if they did remake it, showers of money everywhere.
lol, the number of people pissed about this that didn't care before they put the magic hate-letters "DLC" on it
oh boy.
I don't know why some members do this, try and look superior for going against the popular opinion, but there is no way you could actually believe this is right. People don't hate it because of the "DLC" part, they hate it because, this is literally one of the silliest ways a company can handle something like this. Square Enix patched out a feature because of some error on their end relating to the tomb raider release, and is now selling it to Japanese players for 30 dollars to make them pay for the "full price".
I don't see a problem with this, it's to stop Japanese people from importing the game from US and EU steam to get a lower price, and doesn't affect anyone else.
Yeah the only dickish part is taking it from people who already got it instead of letting them keep it considering it was SEs fuckup. Otherwise youre overreacting. Its not a DLC its a price equalizer.
7911 Yen, I don't know what that much Yen can get a person, but that sounds like a lot, even by Yen's standards
7911 Yen, I don't know what that much Yen can get a person, but that sounds like a lot, even by Yen's standards
that's 80 dollars
lol steam :)
Can we get rid of region pricing differences? They are obsolete in a digital market, where shipping is free.
So is there already a Japanese voice or subtitle mod?

Might as well make Australians pay an extra $50 for importing games from the US/EU just because we have higher wages. Square Enix took something away that was originally in the game and are now making people pay to get it back.

I understand your point, but I think it would be more equivalent to buying a single burger and getting a double by mistake, then having one of the patties removed and asking for the difference in price to get it back. We weren't supposed to have a version with Japanese content, and the Japanese weren't supposed to be able to buy this game early. Just a last-minute fix by SE.
I will never pay that much money for a video game
$60 is already preposterous

A dollar is worth just a little less than 100 yen, so that sounds about right to me.
So.. about those consumer protection laws.

I'm pretty sure that your burger analogy would be illegal, forcibly taking one of the patties away after the customer already received it.
