Exactly, everyone comparing this to something from Mass Effect needs to see 2001: A Space Odyssey
Came into this thread expecting Space Odyssey references.
Guess the saying that almost every FPer is 12 has some truth to it.
Well seeing as you would need to be over 55 years old to have seen that movie when it was released I wouldn't be surprised if not everyone had seen it.

Though, when they finally discovered Pompeii, at first the excavaters thought the tip of one of the buildings was a strange rock formation. Once they dug deeper, they found the remains of a once thriving city that time and man had all but forgotten.
Don't get so excited guys. This picture is old. Saw it some years ago. It's just a rock.
Here's some article from 2009 about it.

On topic, OH MY GOD A ROCK!
The Wish Granter technically is the Monolith, only called a different name. Why they did that, I don't really know, but it sounds really cool either way.
The chances of anything coming from Mars, are a million to one.

okay thank you now i know because a 12 year old on the internet told me.

Wait, how can an amateur star gazer find that? What kind of telescope do they use?!

Oh great here comes the conspiracy nuts
Sorry, but as someone that supports the theory of evolution I do not rule out the possibility of alien shit in space.
It's probably russians.

That was a War of the Worlds reference.
But still... They come!
:tinfoil:
If this is real, I'll buy every single one of you fuckers biscuits.
Perhaps now Nasa will get a reasonable budget?
I want to believe.
Such a perilous location is itself an argument against deliberate placement by aliens: "If I was going to build a monolith somewhere, that's the last place I would put it!" he said. "The debris falling from the cliff would cover it up pretty quickly, on geologic timescales.
It's only the tip!!
Seriously, even if it's just a rock, it's still unusual in shape and should be photographed with higher resolution.
So now I guess the people with really good memories make bets, because we're probably not gonna be certain what it is until NASA finally gets someone up there.
Hopefully a private company will speed things up a bit.
I feel the sudden need to preform a series of muscular tests and simple geometric problems.
No worries.

Just a piece of space toast.
My god! It's full of stars!
Watch it be the tip of a communications tower belonging to a massive seed ship buried underneath the surface that crashed into mars' ocean.

That's terrifying. Imagine being killed by something singing that.
