The death penalty is a finality, nothing brings you back from that.

That's not at all how it works it goes like this (Gross simplification): Trial (Jury) -> Convicton (Jury) -> Sentencing after trial and Jury dismissal (Judge) -> Sentence performance (Prison System) -> Release or Execution of prisoner.
