Video game crowdfund bubble bursts in 2016, video game Kickstarters down in revenue by 60%
How close to release is it? That doesn't look bad for a heavy work in progress, it's missing a lot of stuff but it's all stuff that's easy to add.
Level design might be more problematic... it looks far too spacious, which might be harder to solve.
It's already gone gold a week ago lol. That video is most likely of the release build seeing as how it only went up yesterday

All the other levels looked cool from what little we've seen of them, so hopefully they'll make up for it.

Even outside of the level design, things just feel off here and there. Some of the animations feel a bit off, the sounds don't feel that impactful, etc.

Okay, yeah, if that's a release build, that's a major problem. There's obvious juice needed on a lot of things - I don't think I even heard a sound effect for breaking glass, much less screenshake/screenhold. The hit effect is just a lazy texture overlay. Movement seemed pretty juiceless - I'd have to rewatch, since I wasn't paying as much attention, but I doubt there was much in the way of dust or trails.
This may get a whole lot worse.
IGN recently released 13 minutes of footage of Yooka Laylee, and it's not looking great

The general consensus in the comments is it just seems empty.
Seems like people are hopeful, but are realizing it may not be that great. If Yooka Laylee comes out and the entire game is like this, it'll be another nail in the coffin for Kickstarted video games. I think it might be even worse if it comes out as mediocre rather than a complete disaster as complete disasters usually turn into circlejerks and memes and people don't actually think about them later.
It looks empty because its yet another boring attempt to mimmick an old 90's franchise except without any of the same charm and creativity (you know, because its essentially just a reboot with OC donut sue)
Friend of mine's gonna have his heart crushed if YookaLaylee turns out to be a disappointment, he's been really excited about it since it was revealed

There's WAY too many crowdfunded projects that are cashgrab reboots of 90's video game franchises. There's a fucking Shenmue 3 Kickstarter project, which I had completely forgotten about. Honestly, just, Google some 90's game that hasn't got any new sequels or releases and you can probably find a Kickstarter reboot, I just found one for Power Stone.
