I'm curious as to how this will affect chaplains, as they are technically preachers, and whose job is to preach.
Most people who listen/talk to a chaplain probably want to (and if its a decent chaplain he won't annoy those that don't) so I can't imagine it being too much of a concern.
so gay is suddenly not punishable, but christianity is?
I am an atheist, but that doesn't preclude me from being a good soldier.
But how can you do a job without feeling moral superiority while you do it??

Look Zeke, no offense, but I really cannot tell if you are being serious here. My sarcasm detector is broken.

It's not like the two are comparable anyway.

you choose religion
you don't choose sexuality
there's some leeway being missed here to defend religion
So if a certain someone in our building gave me crap for requesting "atheist" on my dog tags, and tried to talk to me about why I'm wrong about my life choices, then I could potentially get them to back off through a court martial? I hope this is legit. I really want her to worry about her own preferences rather than mine for once. It makes me feel out of place when she calls me out like that.

Yeah, she could get in big trouble. Don't you have an EO rep? Go to them. The AF has EO reps for flights, right?

Also that would be more of a "warning" first situation, then probably escalate to a letter of counseling, then Article 15 if the problem continues.
i am not liberal i am socialist
Doesn't liberal in the american sense actually mean socialist?
you choose religion

To be honest I'd actually argue that you generally rarely actually choose your religion either. In the sense that it is something you grow up and pick up as you would speech. If you come from a normally religious (not ultra conservative) family, you will likely be religious. if you come from a normally atheistic family, you will probably end up as an atheist.
There's people that change their belief certainly as they grow up and mature, but overall I'd say this isn't such a great number.
Look Zeke, no offense, but I really cannot tell if you are being serious here. My sarcasm detector is broken.
Yes, it's sarcasm. The notion that a religious person would be a better soldier is asinine.
I've always found it weird that people actually join the military while their one of their religion's main principle is that they shall not kill.
As great as this is, i really don't want to give the morons any more reason to call Obama the anti-christ just because they don't understand what he did with this law. Just like some of the people in this thread whp think e's actively booting Christians out of the military just because they are christian.

But that doesn't work. They are not the same. I don't think you choose the religion you grow up in. But you can always choose to leave and be different. You can't choose not to be gay, you're just hurting yourself.

The sensationalism in that excerpt is off the charts. We may have a new record here.

I dont really see how being Christian affects anyone?
