Gawker and Bubba Clem are responsible for Hulk getting the Benoit treatment in WWE. Meaning his entire fucking legacy and life's work was completely erased. You won't hear Hulks name mentioned in anything related to WWE now, and he was one of the most popular wrestlers. His name was scrubbed from the Hall of Fame, and his face removed from all WWE media. All that remains are match statistics. If you don't know, Christ Benoit murdered his entire family and killed himself, which is why he was removed from WWE history. Hulk is the only other wrestler to have gotten this treatment afaik, and WWE is saying that he's as bad as Benoit by doing this. Gawker isn't paying for embarrassing him, they're paying for completely destroying everything he worked for in the last 30 years, and completely wrecking his reputation.

The leak should never have happened. But it did and as a result we know he said/thought some terrible stuff. Put it into context, even if he is racist, you are allowed to vent in the privacy of your house about the guy tearing up your family imo, even if what you say is vile in itself. Hulk, at some point, referred to some black people as niggers. Hulk now regrets his decisions, but they were recorded on video (which also happened to be a sex tape Hulk claims to have been unaware of at the time). Somehow or another, Gawker got a hold of this video, and posted it on the Internet. Without anyone's permission, in full violation of the text of the law. Hulk sued. Keep in mind Hogan off-handedly said nigger almost ten years ago in the privacy of his home while he was at a low point in his life and venting about something, and apologized for it later. That's really not enough to label him a bad person, imho. This part of the story was just Gawker using any ammunition they could to smear the Hulk's name. I'm glad Gawker is getting fucked.

Apparently some people believe that venting frustration in the privacy of your own home makes you a bad person.

The former overreacted about something that other members of the group have been very guilty of doing and never were bothered with it, the latter justified some really shitty actions by claiming Hogan deserved it all along. I really don't think someone being racist in their private life is somewhat of a bad enough trait to warrant any form of vindictive action.

The company is no longer being directed by the poisonous people from before. They're just buying a name that may or may not have some value attached to it.
