• Public backs Brexit no deal: Shock poll suggests Theresa May SHOULD walk away

I can say with 100% confidence that most people in this country have no idea either how the EU works, what our relationship is to them, or what walking away without a deal will actually look like. Literally people are making decisions based either on no information or whatever shit the newspapers say. Direct Democracy is a shockingly stupid way to run a country.

Switzerland has a (semi-)direct democracy, and as far as I know, they're doing pretty well for the most part. The main issue is with an uninformed public. If the average citizen doesn't know what they're voting for, things aren't going to end well, as Brexit has showed.

"Stupid people with no idea what they're talking about suggest they'd vote for something that they don't actually understand, because it sounds tough and cool"
I'm sure direct democracy can work. But not when you use it as the basis for making huge sudden changes to how the country works and its relationship to its neighbors. The referendum should have signaled to the government that people are unhappy with our relationship to the EU and inspired them to make changes based on that. Totally leaving the EU should have been the last resort.

Compounded by a seeming lack of critical thinking skills, the natural inclination to believe whatever best fits into their existing viewpoint, and the ease in which one can bury their head in the sand.
Wasn't there also a huge age split between young and old on Brexit voting?

Not everyone has the same interests, and not everyone has to be interested in politics 24/7, or at all. That is what representative democracy is for. I think about politics a lot and find it interesting and even I wouldn't want referendums happening regularly. It would just be too tiring. I just want politicians to do their fucking job.
