• Steve Ballmer: "Android is too complicated"

Android is as complicated as you want it to be.
I love how people in this thread are saying he doesn't know crap because hes fifty. Gabe Newell is nearly 49 and he seems pretty tech literate.
So you have to be a computer scientist to use an Android device? With over 550,000 Android devices activated daily there must be a fucking lot of computer scientists in the world Ballmer.
It's not too complicated to use and learn, but there's no denying it's a lot less intuitive than iOS, I haven't used Windows Phone. I could pick up a friends iPhone and know how to do everything straight away, whereas the Android layout would take at least a few minutes to familiarise myself with. He's right in the sense that it's potentially off-putting to people that try out phones at a store for a few minutes and decide based on that.
criticizing us
who's criticizing you? if anything he was flattering you.
I just wish androids had a really nice UI and touchscreen like the iPhone once they get that down they can have my money

It's just slightly different to what you are used to.
Any cellphone is too complicated for me. I've never owned one. Whenever I need to call home for a ride and someone hands me a cellphone I stare at it like a caveman for 10 seconds before trying to dial. Reading below comment doesn't make me feel better :(
My 68 year old grandma was able to use her new android phone within seconds of using it. Ballmer can shove it.
I just wish androids had a really nice UI and touchscreen like the iPhone once they get that down they can have my money
Umm, Android touchscreens are the same quality as the iPhone ones, at least, for the good Android phones. (SS Galaxy e.t.c) In some cases, some android devices have nicer screens - the Galaxy Tab and Asus Transformer both have nicer screens than the iPad2. Androids UI's actually fairly intuitive, too - I've never had to check my manual.
Oh god, I think iOS looks horrid.
Everything is too squished and plasticy.

I don't know much about actual smartphones, but believe me when I say that there is very little to no difference between the Transformer and iPad2's screens, and the Galaxy Tab's screen is the most beautiful one of the lot. Also, aren't all touchscreens made by something like 3 companies in China and then redistributed, or is that LCDs?
It must be complicated if you do this:
My computer illiterate mom easily uses her Android. He's talking out of his ass.
Oh god, I think iOS looks horrid.
I can't help but think the same when using my Ipod. I'm so used to having Android's layout that I think 'fucking fuck, why is everything all squished'.
My mom got and android yesterday and she is already sending me stupid emails with pictures she took attached and today she created a WiFi hotspot. You know how? The ............MANUAL. Back in my day it said something about YOU when a matter was too complicated. Nowadays it is somehow thdne fault of the task if you don't get it.
I think it depends a lot on what device you have as well. Smart phones usually have custom GUIs installed by the manufacturers. My father got a new android phone the same time as i did. Both run the same version of the OS, but there's not a single thing similar about the phones. Stuff that's simple to do on mine is complicated as fuck to do on his if it's even possible! Took reading through the manual to figure out how to send a text message (only option is to manually enter the recipient's phone number in To: ), then another week of poking around for him to figure out how to reply to one! Android may be simple to use, but may be considered complicated if one's only ever had a shit GUI.
To the people talking about inferior touchscreens, hardware and software - Stop basing your opinions on the $79 tablet running Android 1.6 you picked up at Walgreens last week I constantly hear the same regurgitated bullshit which makes me suspect that these people have never seen a decent Android product. Either they all live in a third world country or they haven't touched an Android device since 2007 who think it's still this

It took me 30 minutes to get my friend downloading stuff on the android appstore and I don't know if he can still do it ...
It took me 30 minutes to get my friend downloading stuff on the android appstore and I don't know if he can still do it ...
How? It's as simple as turn on, log in, press market, select app and press install. Is your friend special?
I thought the sms app and contacts app was the same on every android? swipe right to call swype left to text
Swipe where exactly? I just tried swiping a contact and it does nothing at all?
It took me 30 minutes to get my friend downloading stuff on the android appstore and I don't know if he can still do it ...
Well that's a shame because it's the exact same procedure as iOS so perhaps you friend should just not own any smartphone at all. Click market/appstore, and it brings up the app where you can search for other apps. [editline]19th October 2011[/editline]
Swipe where exactly?
For a second I though that was the HTC ChaCha.
Don't even mention that...thing.
Don't even mention that...thing.
Yes, only mention the things that support my argument please.
I regret buying an iphone so much. I loved my 2G itouch, but my iphone 4 is a load of shit. Should have gone with the HTC Desire.
Yes, only mention the things that support my argument please.
You terrible at this aren't you. Also, this is the same Steve Ballmer who is determined to sell me Windows by shouting really fast at me? When shouting is your main method of communication then I question your sanity.
