• Google blocks local Chrome extensions

Yeah, YouTube Center was the reason this pissed me off. Tried switching to Firefox after this happened but the available add-ons I could find just didn't offer the same functionality that I'm way too used to with my current Chrome extensions. I just switched to dev channel, though, so I'm good now. But decisions like this make me unsure about the future of Chrome.
except you can still install outside extensions, it's just done manually now
You can't as far as I can tell, it'll give you an error saying you cannot install apps, extensions, or user scripts from third party sources.
As long as it doesn't disable add-block plus, I'm ok with this. If it does, Chrome will find itself in my trashbin in no time
You can't as far as I can tell, it'll give you an error saying you cannot install apps, extensions, or user scripts from third party sources.
Get the dev version, open the extensions tab, drag and drop the crx file you just downloaded into the extensions tab, and you're done.
my exhentai...
They should do something about apps in their store that install crap, or shady extensions that suddenly pop up
They should do something about apps in their store that install crap, or shady extensions that suddenly pop up
As far as google's concerned if it's on the store it's 100% legit, and if it's not it's malicious. So I doubt it will be fixed.
I'm sticking to Firefox.
my exhentai...
Sad Panda has been in the chrome store for a while now. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/sad-panda/bohapeiooecafommnlaiccilacgmkaoc
I'm assuming you're being sarcastic, and while it may be half way true that it's a security measure it's also a pain in the ass for most people.
Most people have no fucking clue what a chrome extension even is. You are falsely projecting the people that you tend to associate with on to the general population.
I'm sticking to netscape navigator edit: christ it can't even fucking load facepunch properly and I can't edit with it.
This is like something Apple would do; restrict the freedom of the user for some stupid reason or another. Except with Apple product it's like that from the start.
Speaking of which, why isn't YouTube Center in the Chrome store yet? Is Google blocking it for some reason?
Speaking of which, why isn't YouTube Center in the Chrome store yet? Is Google blocking it for some reason?
Well, Google does love terrible site designs when it comes to YouTube, so the probery don't want to have an extension that fixes their bullshit.
Youtube Center is a userscript, just get TamperMonkey.
Youtube Center with TamperMonkey is a horrible experience. It makes loading 10x longer on pages with embedded youtube videos. So basically it makes a lot of facepunch unusable.
my exhentai...
I was also worried about what this would do for sadpanda
lol chrome

If you care about things like this you shouldn't be using Chrome in the first place
Ahahaha, because firefox is totally any better at all
Oh no, Chrome does something to protect the majority of their user base from malware!
'what's an ad-blocker extension or a noscript equilivent for chrome' some people just want to use chrome and actually customize it to their tastes?
Ahahaha, because firefox is totally any better at all
No, but Pale Moon certainly is.
-snip- thank you google for making such a wonderful browser
I like this. There are workarounds for the kind of users who would want to install non-market extensions (tech savvy users), but it protects the people who actually need protecting.
No mentions of adblockplus? Are the days of browsing on chrome without advertisements over?
Both Adblock and Adblock Plus are on the Chrome web store.
you can thank soccer moms and other computer retarded mongoloids for this "feature"
More like Windows' atrocious security. There is no benefit to everyday users to have Windows anymore, they may as well just move on to tablets.
How about they just add a setting to disable it that's checked by default in a mildly obscure settings page so idiots who don't know how to computer can't find it but anyone who knows the difference between Mac&Cheese and McAffe can disable it
How about they just add a setting to disable it that's checked by default in a mildly obscure settings page so idiots who don't know how to computer can't find it but anyone who knows the difference between Mac&Cheese and McAffe can disable it
They do, it is called developer mode.
This is like something Apple would do; restrict the freedom of the user for some stupid reason or another. Except with Apple product it's like that from the start.
If you compare the problems computer illiterate people have with iPhones to problems they have with Windows computers you'll see how useful these restrictions can be, not that Windows is bad, but it's so easy for people to slow down or fuck up the system on Windows, but the only thing you can really do wrong with an iPhone is download an app that steals your personal info, and that app would probably have no ratings or extremely low ones so you'd know to avoid it. I believe there should still be a way round these restrictions for power users though
Oh no, Chrome does something to protect the majority of their user base from malware!
Google does something to protect the majority of their user base from malware, without an option to revert the behaviour.
I think this is a good change in regards to malicious extensions
Let's ban cars because someone might run people over with one.
Let's ban cars because someone might run people over with one.
I am from Google and I support this motion.
Let's ban cars because someone might run people over with one.
Bad analogy? Cars already have a lot of security measures that you can't turn off. Stuff like airbags and not starting unless seatbelts are buckled for some cars. Chrome is not banning all extensions, just the ones not in app store.
