I sincerely doubt Gianforte winning will have much impact on the republican party. They got the grab em by the pussy guy in to office. They call their constituents children. They don't give a fuck. Why would they when they can keep getting away with dumb shit like this?

They don't give a fuck. Why would they when they can keep getting away with dumb shit like this?
Having a House rep go to jail for six months for assaulting a member of the free press should look pretty bad except to diehard Trump cultists. The scrutiny on the guy and Trump's approval of him, including a robocall campaign mere hours before the assault, is the last thing the GOP wants going into DC with Trump's approval rating already coming close to being "only his true fans" and next to no legislative accomplishments on the books. Will this be the killing blow that destroys the Trump presidency? Very likely not, and I think anyone who sees this as a massive debilitating wound to Congressional Republicans is pretty hopelessly optimistic. But it's one more gap in the armour keeping the GOP healthy. Eventually they will come down if they continue on course. The unknowns are why, when, and exactly how hard.
This isn't a blow to the Trump presidency, it's a blow to the Republican Residency. It's a poison pill that'll do some serious potential harm to the GOP if he gets swallowed in to a senatorial seat.
Even if Gianforte wins, the fact that we're this close in a state that went to Trump by 20 freaking points is a significant development. And if he does win, it will likely be a bittersweet victory hinting at more cracks in the dam down the road, sort of like when Hillary Clinton won the Democratic primary. Of course, assuming he loses, this is just another step toward watching this administration die a death of a thousand wounds.
Ryan want to call Greg G. to apologized for Assault.
WASHINGTON — House Speaker Paul Ryan on Thursday called on Republican Greg Gianforte to apologize after he was charged with assaulting a reporter, but said he will leave it up to Montana voters to decide whether they want him to serve in Congress. "I do not think this is acceptable behavior, but the choice will be made by the people of Montana," Ryan said during a press conference. "I think he should apologize." A Montana sheriff charged Gianforte with misdemeanor assault Wednesday night after Guardian journalist Ben Jacobs said the politician "body slammed" him at a campaign event in Bozeman while the reporter tried to ask a question.
http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/montana-congressional-candidate-allegedly-assaults-newspaper-reporter-n764421
Montana GOP candidate Gianforte charged with assault House Speaker Paul Ryan said Thursday that Greg Gianforte, the GOP House candidate charged with assaulting a reporter, should apologize but added that it is now up to voters in Montana to choose whether they want him as their representative in Congress. "There's never a call for physical altercations," Ryan told reporters during his weekly press conference. "That is wrong and it should not have happened." "I think he should apologize," Ryan added.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/05/25/greg-gianforte-montana-house-gop-candidate-cited-for-misdemeanor-assault-after-incident.html
i like how fox news has disabled the comments section for this article but not others.
I have friends who defended this attack because "Greg has a right to privacy" when he was being """harassed""" in public and such. Literally he doesnt have the right to body slam someone for being pushy on a question. They could be as annoying as all hell but you still cant fuggin body slam them
And NYT may have just plagurised a local news station by ripping a photo without credit.
Am I the only one who saw 'body slam' and thought it was a euphemism?

This whole Russia scandal is throwing a serious wrench om their legitimacy and their ability to govern.
The Guardian put out a great editorial about this. It's an opinion piece so I'll post it here instead of making a thread. The half-assed response we have gotten from the Republicans, considering what their president has said about members of the press in the past, shouldn't be acceptable.
Yeah, cause some guns are used for hunting. Nobody in his right mind would take an assault rifle on a hunt.
People do all the time here.

Only 18% reporting but Quist has a lead... This is deeply troubling for the Republicans if he either wins or shows a strong margin. Previous red states will be up for serious contention in 2018 and if Trump is still in office by then, we can expect the US to bleed blue. God Bless the United States of America, we may finally be getting rid of these tyrannical idiots. [editline]25th May 2017[/editline] Also, looking at Quist's history, he's a fucking weak candidate. This is what is giving Gianforte trouble? Jesus the GOP is in troubled times.

yeah gianforte won.
Gianfort's lead is now 5 points. Scratch that 6 points
That's a really weak lead in a hard red state. 538's live analysis is really insightful. Not really surprised since Kansas is super red and 50% of them tend to early vote. But hey now Paul Ryan has to deal with this asshole [editline]25th May 2017[/editline] I hope Ben Jacobs presses charges
Can't serve in the house if you're in prison for assault...just sayin'.
He'll be denied a seat if the charges go through. That'll be something. The GOP is electing criminals to our government, now that's a headline!
He'll be denied a seat if the charges go through. That'll be something. The GOP is electing criminals to our government, now that's a headline!
he won't. it's a misdemeanor in montana. I don't think that bars you from taking office.
he won't. it's a misdemeanor in montana. I don't think that bars you from taking office.
It should.
he won the election btw http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/25/politics/montana-special-election-results/
he won the election btw http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/25/politics/montana-special-election-results/
Wow what a surprised I'm completely shocked It seems like as long as you're a loud republican asshole there's nothing that'll stop people from voting for you
Wow what a surprised I'm completely shocked It seems like as long as you're a loud republican asshole there's nothing that'll stop people from voting for you
They already had a bunch of early ballots cast before the incident so you can't blame those people
he won the election btw http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/25/politics/montana-special-election-results/
Not surprising, just disappointing. If the GOP had any integrity at all they'd deny his appointment. But, on the very dim bright side, they now have a new congressman with a ton of fucking baggage to deal with. The press are gonna be dogging this guy. [editline]25th May 2017[/editline]
They already had a bunch of early ballots cast before the incident so you can't blame those people
Yeah, from what I understand he had already basically won due to the early ballots and that the election day ballots would basically just determine how narrow or wide his win was.
More than a third of the votes were already in when the incident happened, says the BBC. Who knows how it would've gone down if another election was held today in light of what happened.
They already had a bunch of early ballots cast before the incident so you can't blame those people
Yeah but he already sounded like a real piece of work before this went down.
