You're right to an extent but he seems like the person who cannot be reasoned with at all (As seen in other threads). In which case he has no need to be debating these sorts of things. Which just means that I'd rather not be associated with him. Like you said, you're not me. Let's drop this topic since it has nothing to do with the thread.
What about fire extinguishers? If you have one in your bedroom and the house isn't in a particularly fire-prone area does that make you paranoid of fires?
Regardless of the guns argument, yeah that is kind of paranoid.
Regardless of the guns argument, yeah that is kind of paranoid.
Yeah I don't have an extinguisher in my room. Actually my room is so old it is probably violating every fire hazard in existence.
Regardless of the guns argument, yeah that is kind of paranoid.
Even if you still think it's a bit odd to own a fire extinguisher, does that comparison give you a better idea of the thinking involved?
It isn't so much "They're out to get me." or "I KNOW with certainty it will happen." as it is "Better to have and not need than need and not have."
It isn't truly paranoia unless you drift into the former of the two thought processes.
Congrats Facepunch, Trotsky trolled the lot of you. Again.
Seriously, after Lankist's trolling sprees, I'd think some of you would have wisened up.

Stop over-exaggerating. That isn't what people here do. The only reason people actually have things like guns, fire extinguishers, food stocks, etc . . . is so they are prepared for something that might happen. Again, it's better to be prepared when some shit happens (which is rare), or to have the shit happen and not be prepared. So what if somebody keeps their gun on their nightstand, it'll only help them if something goes down. Does it honestly matter to you that much that you NEED to convince them they're being paranoid?
Does it honestly matter to you that much that you NEED to convince them they're being paranoid?
No, it doesn't. I'm just pointing out it is paranoid. If you live in assnowhere, who is going to screw with you?
Paranoia as a concept exists in large part within the confines of social norms, rather than practicality.
We mentioned seat belts earlier, right?
Well there is one story I can recall from which I can draw some relevance to the topic at hand.
Way back when, in Russia nobody wore seat belts. Ever. Only the occasional foreigner. Cars were made with them, but they were never worn. In fact people claimed the seatbelt would trap you in the crushed car, which is more dangerous than getting hurled out (supposedly to safety).
When I moved to the states in 1996 we had to start wearing seat belts here and we eventually got used to it. Like brushing teeth. No big wup. Then when we visited Russia in subsequent years, the habit of dawning seatbelts followed us home.
At this point our relatives started thinking we were paranoid about car accidents. No joke. They used the old "It's safer to go through the windshield." logic too.
So what's my point?
"Paranoia" has a social element affixed to it. There is a societal norm, when someone acts beyond it they are considered paranoid. People in Russia used to think seatbelts were for paranoid people and even had a reverse paranoia of being crushed inside the vehicle which was accepted knowledge as far as everyone was concerned.
Does this mean seat belts have less practical value in real life? No.
Societal norms dictated the perception of their value, rather than their real potential to save lives.
WTF bean is russian?

Well with your level of retardation i think keeping a fire extinguisher would be handy if i live near you.
