You signed up just to say that.
Nah I signed up to use search.
fuuuuuck I've been at this for 5 hours, among other things.
"How it affected our government"? IF they say that the Bible is the foundation of our country I'm going to fucking murder them all.
I wanna find this Laura Tucker bitch and punch her in the face
Out of context? Pushing religious texts on people is bullshit. If they want to show impact, how about they teach the Qur'an and Torah as well?
You took the words right out of my mou- fingers
texas is the least progressive state in america imo
I think that people are taking this way out of context. The purpose of the classes is to teach how the Bible, as a work of literature, affected the world. It's not supposed to be a brainwashing activity.
Yeah, sure...
"How it affected our government"? IF they say that the Bible is the foundation of our country I'm going to fucking murder them all.
Go digging in Utah. IT'S THE LATTER DAY SAINT CODE
BIGASS PICTURE
Why doesn't it mention it in the article?
Because the bible has better morals than both of those combined.
Even certain animals have morals, and they didn't get it from "The Bible" or any other "holy" scripture. Oh wait, we are animals aswell. I wonder how our ancetors 10 000 years ago worked with moral. Don't you?
:sigh: Only in texas. Atleast now i have a reason to walk out of class and say "No, im not listening to this, fuck your shit."
Why doesn't it mention it in the article?

"By the end of the year, what they begin to realize is that it is pervasive. You can't get away from it. The kids came back and were like 'It's everywhere,'" said John Keeling, the social studies chair at Whitehouse High School. Whitehouse already offers a Bible elective.

Whitehouse already offers a Bible elective.

elective
hurr durr
hurr durr
maybe you should have bolded the word 'already' instead
quite honestly i can't see the trouble in this..... they specifically said it was based on more of how the literature affected our country, not whether or not you should go to church on sundays. i mean, i'm not saying religion is true, but i do not see the point of argueing whether or not we should believe in the bible half of texas was probably teaching the bible already anyway, so they might as well have just made it legal and gotten done with it.
i mean, i'm not saying religion is true,
Are you twelve?
Who fucking cares? Christianity has impacted our country for the better or worse and people need to know of the source.
Who fucking cares? Christianity has impacted our country for the better or worse and people need to know of the source.
Teach it in fucking history class. Oh right, they do.
Teach it in fucking history class. Oh right, they do.
Moses really did part the Red Sea, I swear!
Teach it in fucking history class. Oh right, they do.
Indeed, many history classes I've attended have discussed how as a tool and as a cultural phenomenon religion has influenced historical events. Devoting an entire class to purely discuss the influence of the bible is not only silly, but a thinly veiled attempt at introducing Christianity into school curriculum, even if it is an elective, its a waste of resources and space that could be better spent on legitimate pursuits.
Teach it in fucking history class. Oh right, they do.
They aren't pushing it onto the students, they are telling them "This is what apparently happened according to this best-selling book"
They aren't pushing it onto the students, they are telling them "This is what apparently happened according to this best-selling book"
Do you really believe that?
"The purpose of a course like this isn't even really to get kids to believe it, per se, it is just to appreciate the profound impact that it has had on our history and on our government."
That doesn't exactly sound like a rock-solid commitment to objectivity.
Do you really believe that? That doesn't exactly sound like a rock-solid commitment to objectivity.
Yeah I do, of course there are some batshit insane Christian teachers out there but for the majority they're teaching it like that.
That doesn't exactly sound like a rock-solid commitment to objectivity.
If we want schools to be objective we better put every textbook ever in every lesson.
They aren't pushing it onto the students, they are telling them "This is what apparently happened according to this best-selling book"
yeah, sure
Who fucking cares? Christianity has impacted our country for the better or worse and people need to know of the source.
how how has it impacted the country [editline]07:29PM[/editline]
They aren't pushing it onto the students, they are telling them "This is what apparently happened according to this best-selling book"
That is the rationalization, not the purpose. Claiming that intent is the only way to get it in without violating the constitution

If they do this, I expect Mein Kampf, the Gospel of the FSM, the Torah, Qua'ran, The Origin of Species, the Websters and Oxford Dictionary, etc. Otherwise, it's a bullshit brainwashing campaign. I would refuse to take the class. Separation of church and state. Public schools are part of the state, and therefore anything dealing in religion should be left out, elective or otherwise. If you want religion in your education, home school or else go to a private school. I don't want my tax money paying for educating you over the impact of a book full of fairy tales and violence (or for teaching you/brainwashing you into believing it.)
I bet in wood shop their talking about jesus being crucified and what type of wood they used.
