Also, I am Christian, but I think that they should teach all types of religions in schools from a totally neutral perspective (AS AN OPTIONAL COURSE, Like Latin or Spanish or French), because some people like to know more about these things, just like how some of you might like to know about Roman mythology. Be it real or not, some people like learning about it. However, I don't understand why it is being taught in public schools as a mandate, because when I was public school, discussing religion at all would net you a day's suspension.
They already had courses like this in my high school. A social study elective that was actually rather popular for students to take was basically a Western Religions class (or it could have been global religions), which does studies on christianity, judasim, islam, etc.
ITT: Conspiracy theories about how the gov. is secretly turning young people into christians...

We covered every religion, in fair detail, in a month.
Our entire country apparently is founded upon Christian values, the people we elect into office are mostly Christians and they're the ones who create the laws we have to obey as a society. I'd say that is quite an impact.
Does anyone even care about this in the US anyway? I thought they all were christians :clint:
no, there are still a few of us here that haven't had our skulls fucked and brains destroyed by dick cheney and republicans.
no, there are still a few of us here that haven't had our skulls fucked and brains destroyed by dick cheney and republicans.
The rest had their skulls fucked and brains destroyed by Obama and Democrats.
ITT: Conspiracy theories about how the gov. is secretly turning young people into christians...
do you honestly think that a religious texan won't force christianity onto students?
you could always put Darwin in classrooms, and y'know, teach kids about stuff that actually exists shit, I mistook Texas for civilization. Doesn't history class teach kids enough about how the bible affected the world?
The bible has effected our laws a lot. Thou shall not kill could not have been thought of without the help of our trusty bible. :v:
What about the code of hammurabi? or ma'at? those both existed long before the bible.

The people that claim to be "good Christian family men" use the their religion as a justification for wars, prevention of stem cell research, abortions, and warrentless wire tapping, are the same that are usually very adamant about creating a society where its every man for himself and the government dose little or nothing to assist people in need. Its interesting because by conventional Christian morals it is good to give to others, especially when you do not receive a reward, the religion advocates altruism, yet its followers, at least the ones involved in politics seem very egotistical, selfish, and individualistic. I really hope that such people don't think their not contradicting themselves when they rant and rave about how it would be a bad thing to raise taxes to pay for a service to the poor, whilst claiming to follow Christian principles.

Thread summary: Well, that's Texas for you.
Yay Texas. :D This message isn't sarcasm. It isn't. I know it may seem like it because i'm telling you it isn't but it isn't.
This isn't surprising at all.
This isn't surprising at all.
Exactly. You can't live in Texas, and bitch when this sort of religious wank happens. Then again, I doubt the majority of people that actually live in Texas are actually that upset about it. Let them have their guns and bibles, I say; then leave them with a wholesome "Now, fuck off."
do you honestly think that a religious texan won't force christianity onto students?
I'll just try to think that kids will be smart enough :ohdear:
Out of context? Pushing religious texts on people is bullshit. If they want to show impact, how about they teach the Qur'an and Torah as well?
Because in the KOREAN muhammed fucks little girls and oh wait nevermind, it's because they have you read bits of Gilgamesh in middle school. [editline]09:59PM[/editline]
Because the bible has better morals than both of those combined.
Eh true story, unlike the rest of you angstfags I have read these texts and because my judgement is far superior to all of yours I will vouch for this statement. Shitting in a sea of piss.
