i think it's generally less addressed because the male character archetype is more based on male power fantasies than appealing to women's sexual interests, and don't involve men being portrayed as weak or unable. though that does uphold the stereotype of the "manly man" which affects men negatively by enforcing that gender role. i do agree that the homogeneity of male characters is annoying, but the idea is that more equal representation in gaming would disrupt that.
