I'm all for Transgender people and everything but I am massively uncomfortable with the idea of a kid deciding their gender. Who you are is constantly changing, and never in life more-so than childhood, it just seems awful to make that massive of a life decision at an age where your comprehension of life in general is by far the worst it could be in your existence. This is a fucked up subject to think about.

Kids are pretty aware of things She knows that pink and dora = girls, and thomas the tank engine = boys, and that dicks = boys, and feels an affinity for the girls side of things

They aren't making a decision at this age, they are just becoming aware of it, as I previously stated.

Personally I wouldn't let my kid do this until they hit puberty. When they're something like 4 years old you don't know if for sure that they're going to grow out of it or if it's something that will always be with them.
a person's actual physical gender
and this folks, is what is wrong with GID doctors [editline]21st February 2012[/editline]
Personally I wouldn't let my kid do this until they hit puberty.
You wouldn't let them do what? Go to the doctor? [editline]21st February 2012[/editline] you are aware that nothing has occurred other than a diagnosis has been made?
and this folks, is what is wrong with GID doctors [editline]21st February 2012[/editline] You wouldn't let them do what? Go to the doctor?
I would probably not do much of anything. See if it's something they go through and get tired of or to see if it actually lasts.
This includes children who are unhappy with their biological sex. Some may be boys who prefer activities and role associated with the opposite sex, some may also identify as the opposite sex and vice versa for girls.
sex =/= gender!

Many children are aware of differences in the sexes to at least a small degree even that young. I knew girls didn't have penises at about his age. Hell, I remember some of my friends speculating what girls actually had instead of a penis in second grade; if they had anything to wager, they'd have been placing bets.
I would probably not do much of anything. Sure thing, I guess it might just be a phase you'll grow out of :v:
there is no such thing as a male structured brain prior to socialization, and even then, it's a pretty poor concept as otherwise all males would be roughly similar, as would all females in terms of behaviour
This is simply not true. Although some of the differences between the genders are due to society: it has has been found that female brains have more connection between the left and right hemispheres, females tend to be better at language than math etc.

Kid must have just been watching too much pain olympics and tried to copy it.
He used to cry and try to cut off his willy out of frustration.

People of certain political persuasions and skill sets gravitate towards these because of their brain structure, not the other way around.
Kid must have just been watching too much pain olympics and tried to copy it.
I don't think I can even comprehend how unfunny and stupid that joke was.
What the hell do synthetic proteins have to do with anything?
Well, according to the other thread, Sex changes are on the rise, so is the use of synthetic proteins within our food, as well as a rise in cancers. Saying it's not even worth looking into is dumb.

Second of all, there is no indication of any correlation at all, you're just making a blind stab in the dark. Its like the whole thing about cell phones causing cancer, which was quickly refuted.
Mother shouldn't have let him watch Dora the explorer at such an impressionable age.
are you seriously going to blame dora the explorer? that's the most ridiculous thing i've heard all week.
I would probably not do much of anything. See if it's something they go through and get tired of or to see if it actually lasts.
That is a stupid thing to do and would just cause depression later on.
As much as I agree you have the freedom to do it, I highly doubt you'd let your kid get tg treatment. So I sorta gotta agree with the concept of 18 years old being the age to start treatment.
Oh great, ANOTHER THREAD like this. and meller yeller, yay
