I'd be fine with them legalizing, IF they treat it similar to how alcohol/tobacco is treated, such as, you can't drive while high, can't smoke in public area's, must be at least 18/21 to smoke, state governments have the right to regulate sale of (ABC stores), and workplaces do have the right to not hire if it is shows up in a drug test.
Especially if you're under 18. There's studies that suggest smoking marijuana in your youth could be a concern.
Drinking should be illegal because it leads to poisoning, driving and what ever else. When something is abused the hell out of, everyone looses it. Alcohol has been abused the fuck out of for centuries, the result, everyone should loose it.
So just ban everything that has any negative consequence from use.
Because thats just a swell idea!
really the illegalisation of pot is probably the last remnant of the temperance movement which we all know historically failed and created the mob, one could draw a similar analogy to the network of growers and smugglers and the drug-lords of today to the booze runners and brewers of yesteryear.
let me be clear, its not a slippery slope, pot and other temperence era bans are not the same as the Food and Drug Act which illegalised recreational use of things such as morphine and cocane, those drugs WILL kill you very easily if used by anybody but a trained physician. i only mention this because i think we'll see a challenge in court at some point in the comming years, and if anyone remembers the arguments put forth for anti-gay marrage is that it was a slippery slope and i really see this being a more useful defence in this case.
Marijuana is legal for medical in Canada, of course you can buy it.
You do understand getting medical illegally is way more difficult than street shit? Medical is regulated, it costs fuckin ludicrous money to produce shit that would be perscribable
Unfortunately I doubt this is going to go anywhere (reserving some hope, but not much)
Drinking should be illegal because it leads to poisoning, driving and what ever else. When something is abused the hell out of, everyone looses it. Alcohol has been abused the fuck out of for centuries, the result, everyone should loose it.
You're a confirmed child with no grasp on history
re-listening to the stream, forgot today the senate has been very buisy with syria, thats why it took so long to start the hearing
Yet Canadian studies show daily smoking weed to daily smoking cigarettes you are at a greater risk for lung cancer from the weed then the tobacco.
My research has shown otherwise, I wrote a research paper on medical marijuana a while back. I found that if you look at peer reviewed data smoking marijuana carries lower risk of lung cancer than smoking tobacco, but it is still higher than that of a non-smoker. (Journal of Psychoactive Drugs Volume 40 (3), September 2008) So saying it increases you risk of cancer when smoked (not vaporized or consumed in food) would be a valid point, but claiming it is worse than tobacco is factually incorrect.
Please feel free to post your sources though.
lol the chairman of the commitie sounds high
Drinking should be illegal because it leads to poisoning, driving and what ever else. When something is abused the hell out of, everyone looses it. Alcohol has been abused the fuck out of for centuries, the result, everyone should loose it.
You: "If it has the possibility to be abused, it should be BANNED!"
You are the reason people make "weed needles" jokes.
It's a slippery slope if they ban marijuana, because if they ban marijuana then they'll ban cigarettes next, then they'll ban gambling, and before you know it, it'll be illegal to drink alcohol!
Actually, if you think about it like that, im surprised that more conservatives don't support legalization since that'd mean the government would have less control over people
But that would imply that any political party these days is actually sticking to the principles they claim as the basis of their platform.
Because it's a hallucinogenic drug.
dude you must have od'd when you use it, make sure you didnt read the numbers on the needle wrong
We talked about this in law enforcement yesterday. The entire class was divided almost evenly on the subject

Which side were you on, and which one had the slight majority?

This one is more catchy in my opinion...
Which side were you on, and which one had the slight majority?
The majority fell on retaining current criminal status. However, in a separate discussion, an overwhelming majority wanted to see some kind of reform for drug sentencing and levels of crime.
The majority fell on retaining current criminal status. However, in a separate discussion, an overwhelming majority wanted to see some kind of reform for drug sentencing and levels of crime.
What was their reasoning?
still listening through the stream, i cannot believe the senate is having an informed oral argument about ilicid drugs with only a hint of partisanship
Marijuana is legal for medical in Canada, of course you can buy it.
Yo dude hate to burst your insecure bubble but you can buy weed literally anywhere, no matter its medicinal uses or its legality. Making it harder to get just encourages a criminal element to expand.
[editline]10th September 2013[/editline]
Not to mention the amount of tax revenue spent on enforcing and prosecuting the ban on marijuana versus the amount of tax revenue gained from government regulated and approved stores.
Hey lolz3, how should prohibition work? How do you feel that with drugs illegal, I still have total, and complete access to many many drugs?

It's pretty sad when the only way a person attempts to argue against this is by giving boxes.

It's more sad that people are not looking into the future repercussions because all they can think about is getting high.
It's more sad that people are not looking into the future repercussions because all they can think about is getting high.
What future repercussions. So I should just live my entire life sober because there's the possibility that something bad could happen? Bad shit happens regardless if people are under the influence of something or not.
It's more sad that people are not looking into the future repercussions because all they can think about is getting high.
what future repercussions? do you see the current repercussions of a 40 year old drug war?
do you understand the concept of what happened in the last 40 years? at all?
why don't you tell everyone why they're wrong besides calling anyone who disagrees with you a pothead and rating them dumb? you're clearly smart if you think you're right, are you not smart enough to explain this in the face of criticism?
It's more sad that people are not looking into the future repercussions because all they can think about is getting high.
Yeah this a 100% accurate depiction of DC ten years after marijuana legalization:

Prevent the fall of humanity, ban relatively harmless drugs now!
It's more sad that people are not looking into the future repercussions because all they can think about is getting high.
Future repercussions? If someone gets high/drunk/stoned/whatever and then crash a vehicle or do something stupid, then that's their fault, not the substance.
Alcohol is there to drink for enjoyment. You abuse it, you fuck up a lot of things. Don't do anything while under the influence of anything, period.
Also once again, things shouldn't be banned simply because they have the potential to be abused.
Obligatory mention of "weed needles."
Go ahead, rate me dumb. But that joke has been done to death.

Some think you are a young kid who is clueless, but I know your trolling. How do you troll like this without getting banned, I tried this and get banned immediate.
