What was their reasoning?
Everyone holds their own reasoning. Cops on the streets are really conservative so they generally feel toward keeping it along with the unions
It's more sad that people are not looking into the future repercussions because all they can think about is getting high.
i think it's time to stop.

my dad's a pretty conservative guy and works in street crimes but still feels marijuana should be legalized
my dad's a pretty conservative guy and works in street crimes but still feels marijuana should be legalized
Not all cops are against it. But at least around me, most of them are.
The power comes from the unions though... they hold the views in the legislature
Everyone holds their own reasoning. Cops on the streets are really conservative so they generally feel toward keeping it along with the unions
I would think cops would be more in favor of making their job easier/less dangerous by keeping relatively harmless individuals away from gangs and other violent offenders.
OR maybe it's because some people (myself included) have had family and friends die where marijuana was involved. Six years ago, my uncle was killed in a head on collision and the person who hit him was stoned out of his ever living fucking mind, so much so that he thought he had parked his car and not hit anyone. If people want to kill themselves, get a gun, a rope, a razor, stock up on pills
stock up on beer, but no, people want to kill others while they drive and do whatever.
10/10 i love you, you brilliant fucking bastard
I would think cops would be more in favor of making their job easier/less dangerous by keeping relatively harmless individuals away from gangs and other violent offenders.
Thats the thing. No one really knows if its going to make streets safer. Not everyone is harmless when it comes to drugs.
I personally believe that most states are holding off until Oregon, Washington, and Colorado start posting some stats post-introduction of the laws. Enough to show trends. Then we'll really see where this train decides to go
literally everyone I know is for marijuana legalization, from convicts to teachers to parents to fucking pastors. only groups of religious nuts are against it, and some very out-of-touch adults or old folks.
there's so much support in my area that the police have pretty much stopped going after pot. i was pulled over twice in a row while hotboxing a car and they just told us to have a nice day and fix our tail light despite the scent of weed permeating from our car. there's dozens of stories of people getting away with petty weed use because the cops don't care (mostly because my town has a big crack problem).
i live in texas.
there's very little chance that marijuana will not be fully legalized for recreational use within a decade in the US. Once that happens, the rest of the western world will follow suit
Should be treated as alcohol methinks.
Nah man, already bullshit that you have to be 21 to buy alcohol. I don't wan't to wait until i'm 21 when i can already buy weed legally.
Drinking should be illegal because it leads to poisoning, driving and what ever else. When something is abused the hell out of, everyone looses it. Alcohol has been abused the fuck out of for centuries, the result, everyone should loose it.
One in every 10,000 US citizens were killed in 2011 in traffic accidents. Clearly cars lead to death, therefore no one should be allowed a car.
[editline]10th September 2013[/editline]
Banning something which is not inherently deadly because some people die due to it is ridiculous.
Potheads and trolls apparently reacts in a very explosive manner.
Stay classy FP

It's a non-argument.

what would your mother do when she finds your corpse addicted to marijuana
but I know your trolling.
Well shit. Alright, I'm done. My real opinion on it? It's been said, controlled like alcohol, no public smoking (unless designated.) I do apologize for the many aneurysms I might of caused. Now my uncle really was killed in a head on by a stoner. However I know that the majority of people will use it in their homes or others that allow it.
Also to those rated dumb, changing to hearts.

I agree and apologize. It's not worth to keep the whole troll gig going so I'm stopping it, not just here but all threads. If it is legalized I would want it to be controlled.

Marijuana is listed as a Schedule I controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act
Schedule I substances are defined as having the following characteristics.
A: The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.
B: The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
C: There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.
Under these guidelines alone, you can understand why it is illegal. However, even though the legal definition of Schedule I substances also would normally extend to other substances that cause harm but are used regardless, yet tobacco and alcohol are not classified as Schedule I substances. This sets a precedent of allowing recreational use of substances that would otherwise be controlled.
That is only taking into account the legal ramifications, the more pressing matter is the inherent potential harm of legalized use of marijuana. According to WebMD (and all the other unbiased reliable source I could find) the effects of marijuana are varied, but, in my opinion, vary little in severity or consequence in comparison to other loosely regulated substances such as alcohol, cigarettes, and cigars in consequence to the individual using the substance. That said, there is a risk of paranoia developing in users of marijuana, as well as disassociation of reality and have various accounts of exacerbating certain mental disorders. I feel these issues can be easily prevented or managed and thus should not be significant barriers to legalization.
However, there are also measurable benefits to public well being from legalization. The Mexican drug cartels are estimated to have a profit of $10-$40 billion per year, and a large percentage of it is in marijuana sales. While it would be naive to think that they would stop selling after legalization, it would be equally ignorant not to realize that the price will go down significantly on the product as more people enter the market, and growing is localized, therefore decreasing profits. There is also the money spent on prosecuting, and incarcerating marijuana users and the taxable money lost due to to its illegality. (an estimated 1,531,251 people were arrested in 2011 on drug related charges, of them 43.3 percent, ~663,031 arrests, were for possession of marijuana)
TL;DR This whole thing about marijuana being illegal is bullshit.
Edit: holy shit over an hour on a post, what am I doing with my life?
Don't know whether it has been mentioned or not in this thread, but I think designated areas where it is legal is a good idea, like in Amsterdam where they have "Coffee Shops".

Right, I think that is essentially the plan when it comes to legalizing pot. Like, doing it at home is fine, but you can't walk the streets tokin' on mad doobiez, just like you can't drink in public.
I'd be really happy to see legalization on a federal level, but I don't know man. I still just really have this feeling that nothing is going to change for the better anytime soon until the misinformed and propaganda fed generation of old white people dies off. And the [sp]propoganda-like[/sp] drug programs that are taught in elementary school (you know the ones I'm talking about) that make weed sound like heroin are also really fucking evil and misinformative and I'm worried about how that is going to affect the next generation of american voters.

I miss the days of real trolls where they never would drop the act and would never admit to trolling.
One thing I'd be glad about if weed was legalized would be that the stop of SwagFags and "Goons" and "Thug Lives" would come to an end. People either pretend to or do it once and exaggerate it to its fullest extent, get super-praised by those they probably bully or some shit and feel cool.

Dude, booze is fucking easy to make at home. I've done it before.
But cigarettes do cause cancer, and marijuana is showing signs of helping fight cancer, dunno how true it is, but its better than cancer. And alcohol already does make your loose brain power too, so the fuck is the difference. And I never fucking hallucinated from the couple times I did it, hell, no one I know has.
It can still be harmful if you use blunts, joints, and other methods of smoking it. A glass pipe, bong, vaporizer, or baking it with food/desserts is completely safe, using a pipe/bong might reduce lung capacity a bit but other than that nothing.
So in the end, they confirmed that they will not interfere with state level legalization?
Cool.

A joint is pretty much the cleanest way of smoking besides a vape, don't know what you're on about.
Are you sure about that? It's still smoke and such waste going straight to your lungs, not just air.
I don't know the science, though, so maybe.
