'Evil and Orwellian' – America's right turns its fire on Britain's NHS
But what you said is identical to the US system. Ireland, Scotland, Wales and shit act as independent nation states and answer to a central government. That's how it works here. That's why we have our tenth amendment.
Northern Ireland, not the Republic of Ireland.
I'm not talking about the UK NHS.
I am talking about the U.S. proposed NHS which is entirely different.
Then we're on agreeance, Social engineering sucks.
Northern Ireland, not the Republic of Ireland.
Ah, yeah, they aren't the same...
Then we're on agreeance, Social engineering sucks.
So back to the original thread.... why is the US right wing criticising the NHS anyway?
That's what I meant, just saying how it's more similar than you think.
I know. But that's the thing, Britain has the NHS, not the entirety of the EU. The EU acts as a literal alliance, where the US acts as a cross between an alliance and a nation, making a US NHS an entirely different entity with its own set of problems, not the least of which is a clientèle somewhere around 100 times in number than the UK's.
You should see how long you can be held without charge here now...
Clue:
US=2 days
UK=28 days (Prime Minister is pushing for 42)
We're actually debating whose government sucks the most dick.
Woah.
100 times the population of the UK is 6 billion. Unless you meant something else by that...

I'm talking about the difference between the UK and England. For example, University tuition exists in England, but Not Scotland... Similar to the states, because it's actually modelled on the same relation... Members of the EU are just completeley different nations.
Also- UK Population 60,943,912 (July 2008 est.) - Cia World Factbook.
Also, the PM is valiantly guarding our NHS on Twitter!

Which is the root problem with a US NHS.
We have much bigger issues than the UK had with its implementation, one of the biggest issues is the proposition, allowing a lot of power to deny service to people deemed unhelpable by the government.
What I'm proposing is that instead of implementing an NHS we simply reform the insurance industry. That is where most of our health issues are rooted.
The insurance industry wants to be treated like a private industry, and yet things like driving a car without car insurance is illegal. It is literally required by law to have car insurance if you have a car. The entire industry has rooted itself into law with absolutely NO government oversight.
I am FINE with insurance being in law, but I am not fine with it being in law without the government having some oversight in the industry. If we cut back on the run-around they give with claims and do things that encourage employers to give benefits to their employees we can eliminate most of the problems with healthcare without any real revolutionary changes.

So back to the original thread.... why is the US right wing criticising the NHS anyway?
Because apparently it's socialism. The right of the US don't understand what they're arguing, so they make things up. The whole death panels thing and the lottery bullshit.
100 times the population of the UK is 6 billion. Unless you meant something else by that...
600000000.
That is not 6 Billion.
A Billion is 1000000000000
Good maths.

See this is why I don't comment on foreign politics because I honestly have no idea what the fuck the difference is between England and the UK.
Put me in a discussion about American politics and I'm like "Constitutional law, DMCA subsection 1201, rah rah rah"
But in a discussion about the UK I use the words England and United Kingdom interchangably.
They will.
You think smokers and drinkers are rich motherfuckers? No. Smokers and drinkers are mostly members of the lower class, and under the system we are proposing they are refused many services.
[editline]06:41PM[/editline]
Wait did he mean right as in correct or right as in conservative?
Because I'm not conservative by any meaning of the word.
I just assumed he meant right as in correct because I am correct in everything I ever say.
The rich don't smoke high-end cigars?
What about the luxurious, high-class liquors?
You're talking out of your ass and making very assuming statements.
A system where the people who have money get the treatment more promptly, and with better quality, is the one that is fair.
Responsibility for others is the part that I find the bone of contention.
Death is a part of life, which could easily be avoided if people lived normal lives, earning a modest amount of money, and saving in the event that they may need it.
If someone feels they should ignore their certain mortality, and go ahead with unhealthy practices, etc. and at the same time avoid their finances, they definitely have a justified result - should they not be able to afford healthcare.
Because apparently it's socialism. The right of the US don't understand what they're arguing, so they make things up. The whole death panels thing and the lottery bullshit.
Incidentally, David Cameron (leader of the right wing opposition party) has issued a statement saying:
"I support the NHS 100% and the Conservative Party supports the NHS 100%"
600000000.

So the UK has 1/50th the population of the US.
Whatev.

I learned a while ago not to correct people so hastily without making sure I was correct.
You should probably look into that.
In case anyone needs an elementary school lesson, 60 million times 100 equals 6 billion.

The primary consumers of alcohol and tobacco products are the lower class.

The UK has 60 million people.
A billion is 1000 million.
100 x 60 million is 6000 million.
6 Billion.

in any case
61,113,205 X 100 = 6,100,113,205 > 307,212,123
(Fun Fact= British Billion and American Billion aren't the same value)
Oh, and Sarah Palin has said the NHS is 'downright evil'... yay!
Lankist: The UK is Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England. England is the country, Britain is the mainland.

I passed my last math course by one point above failing grade.
Point being America has a much larger population and a larger geographical area to handle.

The British people I know never use "milliards" or whatever they're called in that system.

I'm British, and I have no idea which is which... just that we use a different Billion to the US and so that's where the confusion is here...
I passed my last math course by one point above failing grade..
Just as well, I made a mistake there.
Any more news on the attacks?
I'm not sure how people can call the UK socialist, when we're a freaking Constitutional Monarchy.
I'm not sure how people can call the UK socialist, when we're a freaking Constitutional Monarchy.
I thought you were primarily a parliamentary democracy at this point.
I'm not sure how people can call the UK socialist, when we're a freaking Constitutional Monarchy.
Yep, and we don't even have one of your fancy constitutions either!
List of democracies without a constitution:
UK
New Zealand (former UK colony)
Iran.
I thought you were primarily a parliamentary democracy at this point.
That's a type of constitutional monarchy.
Alright, well because I have nothing better to do, and some guy on the internet implied I was an idiot, I looked it up and the UK converted to the short scale in the '70s.
In any case, don't bother correcting someone who's perfectly fine in another unit of measurement. I don't treat Europeans like fools when they give me the temperature in degrees Celsius.
The primary consumers of alcohol and tobacco products are the lower class.

A study by the Norwegian Institute for National Health has linked greater alcohol consumption to higher education and higher income. People who have more education and more money drink more than uneducated and poorer people, the research shows.
The Norwegian study, conducted between 1993 and 2000, found that there is not necessarily a connection between the people who have higher education and the people who have a high income, but both groups consume a more alcohol.
"The main function of this survey has not been to find out how much Norwegians drink, but alcohol consumption connected to people with little or high education," Bjørn Heine Strand told the press.
Overall, the study found that Norwegians increased their drinking between 1993 and 2000, but the increase is largest among the wealthy and Norwegians with higher education.
I know this is for Norway, but humans are all alike in some ways.
The rich are not immune to alcohol or tobacco consumption.

Continental Europe didn't though, so I get confused... and I didn't call you an idiot! Also, water freezes at 0.
I thought you were primarily a parliamentary democracy at this point.
Well, yes and no.
The fact we have a monarch means we are a Constitutional Monarchy, but ever since several acts set to limit the monarch's power (Bill of rights, Act of Settlement etc), we're more of a parliamentary democracy.
