No.
Michael Steele didn't call it socialism?
I showed that both sides can be sensational.
That being said, either side is not completely represented by those aforementioned figures.
As an Irishman who lives in Ireland, a country with socialised (There's that word again) healthcare, I must say our version of the NHS (The HSE) is a shodilly run piece of shit.
SAYING THAT, America's healthcare system is just pure :downs:
Our system is fantastic, so long as you have a good job and no medical problems.
It is different in the proposed US plan. Drug users go to the back of the line or do not get treatment at all, it is considered willful affliction.
I'm talking about the US NHS, not the UK. I don't live in the UK, I don't care about the UK, you guys can do whatever the hell you want. It's your country, it's your money and your people, I do not have a say in your affairs.
I am a US Citizen only, I only have a say in US politics and I only understand US politics. UK politics are completely alien to me. I can safely say you know more about them than I do.
[editline]07:00PM[/editline]
I can say I do not understand the vehemence displayed by people who live in the UK about OUR politics. They don't live here, why the fuck do they care about our shit? We're the ones who benefit or suffer from it.
The only reason people from the UK have posted here at all is because people from the U.S. have insulted our healthcare system.

Mommy they made fun of us
Give me a break. THEY INSULTED OUR HEALTHCARE SYSTEM. Oh wow really? Like this:
Because of the UK NHS all british people now enjoy raping beavers and then taking the beaver tails and making hats out of them as a beaver-raping status symbol.
Oh shit look what dishonor I have wrought on the United Kingdom!
[editline]05:28AM[/editline]
I swear to fuck for a people who were enslaved by the Romans you sure do have some thin skin.

It was mainly this sentence that got me. If people from one country talk shit about another, of course people from that country are gonna talk shit back.
What happened to THIS mentallity?
Eh, Britain?
Where is it NOW!

Don't be a dick. Of course people from the UK are going to post in here. It's not about the healthcare being "insulted" we do enough of that ourselves, it's the fact a completely warped view of the NHS was presented, so of course people from the UK are going to post to set the record straight.
And yes a lot people from the UK are going to be interested in US politics, since they're so influential on the rest of the world. You say you don't know how politics in the UK works but that's because the UK doesn't affect you. It's not the same the other way round.

And you went mental when people commented on your system?
Anyway, new story http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8200817.stm
And new quote from someone on a republican anti-NHS advert (commercial).
But one British woman said she felt duped after becoming the unwitting star of an anti-Obama health campaign.
Kate Spall, who appeared in a US free market group's TV commercial opposing Mr Obama's health bill, said her views were misrepresented.
She told the Times: "It has been a bit of a nightmare. It was a real test of my naivety. I am a very trusting person and for me it has been a big lesson. I feel I was duped."
Ms Spall and fellow Briton Katie Brickell's descriptions of poor treatment at the hands of the NHS featured in the Conservatives for Patients' Rights (CPR) advert.
At least healthcare is ten times better in the UK than in the US.
So whats wrong with having a national health service but also having the ability to pay to go into private hospitals?

The big pharmaceutical corporations would lose money. But, they hold some influence over select politicians, who do their best to ensure their business is not threatened
lol american politics afaik

Kind of sums it up.
I'm Conservative but I'm not stuck up my own arse enough to know that the NHS generally, while not perfect, is a good idea.
I am a bit annoyed that our health system is being protrayed negatively in order to further the agenda of some political group, though.
This has gone on Too long. When is England going to Revoke Americas independance like they should have done years ago.

I don't think you can revoke independence from a state that won it by force.

This McCarthyiest fear Mongering is not a novel idea. You and I both know that.

You guys cheated
didn't wear uniforms and hid in trees.
Real men stand in hideously inefficient firing lines and suffer horrendous casualties.

Wearing bright colours and standing in a field is the best way to avoid enemy fire.
Access to free, quality healthcare should be a fundamental human right in first world countries, which have the economy to support it. No one should suffer illness because of poverty. I am perfectly happy paying a good chunk of income in tax to ensure that people have access to that.
Maybe America can take a lesson from Europe, because some of the communities in the USA seem to be immersed in third world conditions.
well, even if the NHS is shit we don't get surprise bills for $150k and more after an operation.
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.
From Article 6 of the US Constitution
# (1) Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.
From the UDHR, signed by the United States: http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/
We as a nation and as a international community have already established and recognized healthcare to be a human right, but whatever. The United States supersedes the authority of the UN as ordained by American Exceptionalism and patriotic fervor; Mexicans and the poors do not deserve healthcare paid for by the middle class out of sheer principle, and healthcare rationing through the market price of a treatment is justifiable because the free market is the highest form of democracy.
Freedom, independence, and liberty take precedence before humanitarianism and adequate standards of living; if you have not got the former, you can't have the latter.
The UDHR is a joke.

And what the fuck is this about mexicans?

Do you want all these illegal immigrants to get free healthcare paid for by the US taxpayer? Nobody "deserves" healthcare so much as they deserve a house or a car; as is everything else in this world, healthcare is a good that is bought and sold. If you cannot pay for healthcare, you cannot have it same as if you cannot pay for a TV or for a loaf of bread.
Do you want all these illegal immigrants to get free healthcare paid for by the US taxpayer?
You are the first person to actually bring that up, regardless of party.
Nobody here has been arguing that either way.
And I can say on solid basis that this legislation is not being written with criminals at the forefront of the discussion. That's why it's fucking over the drug movement, it's probably going to fuck over illegals. On the latter, that honestly isn't a big issue to me, not as big as the prior.
If you want to address immigration standards that is a different bill entirely. This has virtually no detriment to that debate.

Yeah but you don't die if you can't afford a car.

Are you kidding- illegal immigrants are a huge part of the healthcare debate because of the sheer number of them. Any sort of public option is going to include funding the healthcare of illegal immigrants with taxpayer dollars.
IMO everyone should be entitled to necessities
