Democrats may get more support if they tried two things:
1. Stop trying to force a whole cow into a dog's throat all at once.
2. Stop poking the rattlesnake with their bare hands.
Translation:
1. Stop trying to push for instant change from private to government funded health care. The chaos that would result in such a rapid transition would make the project fail on a scale unheard of.
2. Democrats in D.C. have stopped using logic and reason to beat back anti-social health care and have started screaming anyone opposing it as racist and nazis. Calling potential voters like this isn't going to help them win any support for the health bill, which is now divided evenly between average Americans.
It's not in any way an instant change from private to government-funded healthcare. It's a public OPTION in addition to all the private insurance providers we already have, along with measures to keep health insurance premiums from bloating to the point that we spend half our total income just on health insurance.
And I dunno if this is news to you, but a lot of the opposition to everything Obama tries to do actually IS simple racism. Every single bit of footage from every single protest shows nothing but middle-aged white people who should have the basic intelligence to figure out that the government is not trying to kill old people or mandate abortions and sex changes, but they choose not to think for themselves, and instead to scream and yell in the vain hope that someone will make the black guy in the white house go away.

This means it's optional.
I have a gut feeling that those who are hating Obama's healthcare reform right now are just jumping the Hate bandwagon of ignorance. They thought the health care reform = NO MORE FREEDOM. So who are hating this things? The older adults or the misguided Youths?

Obama's introducing a public OPTION, not replacing the entire system altogether. Obama's not as leftist as everyone would like to think, for anything to happen, in any case, compromises have to be made.
There is also private insurance/hospitals in Britain, for anyone who wants that option.
This means it's optional.

I have a feeling that most young people are totally in favor of this, considering they're all going to be uninsured for a LONG time before they build up the income to support health insurance premiums.
Since the right is so religious you would think they would care about helping the poor and sick.
America would be better if you were not all about God and if you didn't Circumsize people, that way they can release tension without a problem, then you won't have all these angry people everywhere.

They aren't though. If they did they wouldn't call NHS evil. The hypocrisy is just mind boggling.

I think I've seen the crazy protesters getting all angry.
For a country that spends most of it's money losing wars i would have thought something small like a national health service wouldn't seem so bad.

Why did you get rated dumb?
Oh that's right because you're not screaming obscenities at anyone who disagrees with you.
Who the fuck do those American politicians think they are? Maybe they should consider looking at how other countries are better than theirs before they pass judgement?
Typical fucking american politicians, sticking their noses into other people's affairs.
The extreme right tends to be really ignorant and moronic.
The extreme left tends to be stupid and gullible.

Republicans and Democrats are exactly the same.
Republicans and Democrats are exactly the same.
Both stupid.
Republicans and Democrats are exactly the same.
There's a few differences in the tactics they use, I haven't recently seen the Democrats engage in the kind of blatant fearmongering and rumormilling that the Republicans have.
Plus, the Democrats right now are at least trying to LOOK like they're interested in bipartisanship, the Republicans just say "Fuck you, we're railroading whatever we want and don't even have to talk to you."
There's a few differences in the tactics they use, I haven't recently seen the Democrats engage in the kind of blatant fearmongering and rumormilling that the Republicans have.
If we don't give this organization bailouts it will go bankrupt and everyone will lose their jobs and we need to act RIGHT NOW
[editline]02:49PM[/editline]
And Bipartisanship is not a good thing. Bipartisanship is like when Hitler and Satan agree on something. That something is most assuredly bad.
[editline]02:50PM[/editline]
Everybody thinks if the Republicans and Democrats agree on something it's absolutely right, but that's a load of shit.
If the Republicans and Democrats, two very dirty, money-hording, third-party-shunning, public-hating parties agree on something, you better give that something a closer look.
[editline]02:51PM[/editline]
And when I say "Public hating" I am referring to the fact that instead of serving like they were the President of the United States, Bush served like he was the President of the Republicans and Obama serves like he's the President of the Democrats. Neither has shown any intention to listen to any other ideology but their own.
The "Get On Board" mentality of the Democrats in office right now is a frightening realization of this.
I'm not quite sure how you can possibly characterize a system whose aim is to keep all people healthy as evil, much less Orwellian, but good thing no one takes the right seriously.
Fucking shut up.
That's extremely easy to say with your pettiness.

Seems like people really ignore the right.
Or at least the left does!
You insular fool.
Fucking shut up.

I like how you said absolutely nothing with this. When all else fails, SHOUT INCOHERENT INSULTS.
Not to mention that you picked out pretty much the most moderate argument in the thread to SHOUT AT FOR NO REASON, being that the only thing I took issue with is that they call it evil and Orwellian, which it most certainly is not. I don't support the healthcare plan, but you have to be an idiot to think it's evil.
Snuwoods, I'm guessing you're against these reforms. Are you?
Snuwoods, I'm guessing you're against these reforms. Are you?
Yes, health isn't a right.
Nor should the we spend such inordinate amounts of money with such urgency.
Obama doesn't mention that the legislation will still have a few years to wait.
It will be enacted around 2013.

I followed it up.
You cut my post in half.

You dismissed an entire political ideology.
I thought that was pretty brazen.
People do regard the right.
Top-ranking Republicans have joined bloggers and well-funded free market organisations in scorning the NHS for its waiting lists and for "rationing" the availability of expensive treatments.
There must be another England they're talking about. :downs:
This reminds me of that lottery bullshit people like Glenn Beck have been shitting around.
I followed it up.
You cut my post in half.
Because it does nothing to argue against the main point of my post, which was not, "No one takes the right seriously in general," but, "You must be a complete fucking moron to think this is evil and Orwellian, and I'm glad no one takes conservatives seriously when they talk out of their asses and say stupid shit like that."
Yes, health isn't a right.

Uhh... Health is a right, and if it costs so much then why not cut some from the military spending?

Personally, I find it horrifying that people should have to die simply because they couldn't afford healthcare.
It's not like you won't have the option of privatized healthcare.
Also, Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights would disagree with you.
Uhh... Health is a right, and if it costs so much then why not cut some from the military spending?
Why is it a right?
You could be a complete slob, and eat like a hog.
Should someone have to take care of you now that you're in cardiac arrest?
I don't think so.
Uhh... Health is a right, and if it costs so much then why not cut some from the military spending?
Not really.
It can be argued that health is included in "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness" but the mere fact that health is a personal decision means the government has no part in enforcing it.
When you say "Health is a right" it implies there is a singular definition for health and unhealthyness by that definition is no choice for the citizenry.
[editline]03:15PM[/editline]
Which is exactly the argument still standing for why drugs are still illegal.
[editline]03:15PM[/editline]
By the by if we get an NHS we will NEVER legalize any drugs, ever.

Nobody takes that document seriously.
It goes unenforced worldwide.
[editline]03:17PM[/editline]
Furthermore making health an enforceable right is entirely impossible and fairly oppressive for developing nations.
[editline]03:18PM[/editline]
Hey guys I know you want to have an established electrical grid but right now you don't have very many hospitals so chip chop chip
