"Bikini Bridge" upsetting fat people and Feminists

In my opinion, the kind of feminism that centers around female body image is best (by which I mean should only be) is directed at marketing; ads and other media that have nothing to do with fitness, yet displaying every woman as being extremely skinny, overly attractive, and generally unrealistic for how most of the population actually looks. This leads to problems such as anorexia and depression, because woman want to fit an unrealistic expectation that the media puts out. This is disgusting to me, and this is why I identify as a feminist.
I draw the line for situations like this (if it were actually serious), when there are insults and hate towards individuals who /are/ skinny and attractive, through no fault of their own. Some people are naturally thin or naturally beautiful; others want to fit a certain idea for their body, and use makeup and exercise to make it happen (whatever floats your boat, I say). Neither of these groups deserve to me hated for their body group, yet certain SJWs do so because they believe such individuals are "aiding the patriarchy". Bit sad, but that's what happens when you lash out against the world.

its not "aiding the patriarchy" as much as its asking the question of how many skinny women are skinny and how many of them just internalized this ideal of skinny bodies.
there's no point in dismissing anyone's rage. even the seemingly most ridiculous rage is indicative of something.
the entire point of this thread and the whole bikini bridge thing is pretty much to call out the bullshit with whats now considered "thin-shaming" if i were to phrase it a sensationalist way.
and it worked, people picked it up and started complaining about it.
i dont think so i think the point is to denigrate people who respond to something sensitively.
wow, how is this turning into a patriarchy discussion
do people really think that this is somehow a man made conspiracy to make women thin so we can perv
do people really think that anyone sane really believes that
no i don't. maybe that's just your flawed interpretation and the word patriarchy means something totally different than what you think it means
wild idea i know
The classic case of "Stop liking things I don't like it!"

I suppose you are right; there are probably a lot of females who are skinny less because they always were, but because they think they have to in order to be attractive.
(sorry about that bit, was the weakest part of my paragraph; really, really shouldn't have mentioned it)
I suppose, but it's just a bit hard to support some rage, and I don't know how to do anything with it other than either support it or dismiss it.

idk that just seems like a serious false dichotomy. its okay to agree with some people's points even if they are completely ridiculous. i think thin privilege or whatever is a very stupid plagiarism of privilege itself, which is an established academic concept stemming from the post-colonial days.
but im not gonna see all these fat ppl be mad and say theyre just being dumb. there has to be a reason

No, it's my fault; I was the one to bring it up, because I thought it would help my argument. Clearly it was a dumb idea to do, and I'm sorry for it.
While "patriarchy" fits the situation I was talking about (aka, media being led by males so females in ads are picked purely because males would be attracted by it and women would try to fit it), it doesn't this one; this is purely based on people being jackasses and wanting to stir up attention with SJWs.

I can support the points themselves, but the rage behind it can or cannot be agreed with (my reasoning, at least).
While I can appreciate the ridiculous amount of nonsensical outrage this evokes, it's a bit annoying how the whole thin-culture thing does make some people act in actuality. The last 2 girls I've been with have been a pretty ideal size, but would constantly talk about wanting to lose weight and look like "X fashion model"
I'm just glad that guys don't have this problem to as much of an extent. I've never felt self-conscious because I don't have abs or big arms, I don't see why women are self-conscious when they aren't skinny as a twig. Honestly incredibly slim people seem to be a turn-off to many people.
welcome to the real world, where society makes women feel like shit if they aren't a size 0 and caked in makeup. you, as a dude, have basically no pressure to be a certain size compared to women.

So people are mad at a facebook page made by a bunch of idiots, and you're calling the people fall for it dumb because they don't know it was made by a super-obscure shithole of the internet
I really don't understand FP sometimes tbh it's almost like you don't know that some people don't use the internet heavily

you have no reason to apologize. theyre just being antagonistic.
every time someone says the word patriarchy and tries to use it seriously in an academic concept its always someone getting confused and thinking that patriarchy implies some kind of conspiracy.
what we mean by patriarchy is man, as principle authority. archy means to rule.

Does America have an alternative reality that no one else experiences or what?
This shit never happens here

i'm glad somebody finally said this. the entire reason this thread went past the initial posts is because facepunch loves to laugh at those gosh-darn tumblr SJWs!
i also don't see why people are bitching about pain "starting an argument." do people seriously not expect posters who are more sensitive towards feminist issues to come in after a literal zinger party?
no i can agree with that. i dont support the rage either. catharsis is a myth.
you, as a dude, have basically no pressure to be a certain size compared to women.
are you fucking serious rn
people are probably grumpy because there are no trending fads among more "plump" girls because that isnt really an achievement (not saying this is, but its more of an achievement than being fat).
[sp]im probably biased because i like skinny girls[/sp]

are you saying portugal doesn't have womens issues?
that doesnt happen though
look at the cover of women-targeted magazines. "TOP WAYS TO LOSE WEIGHT! LOOK LIKE A DIVA!"
look at TV commercials. scantily-clad, thin, perfect skinned woman in a yogurt commercial.
i should have put tries to before "makes women feel like shit" tbh, tho.
4chan isnt "super obscure" anymore
It kind of is
It's definitely "level two internet" nowadays but you'd be surprised how many people just stick to the "level one" social media for their dose of internet
those kind of people don't know what 4chan is
the idea of levels is weird but i hope it helps get the point across
[editline]7th January 2014[/editline]
that doesnt happen though
look at any makeup/perfume/movie/game/fucking anything ad and try to say that again
it happens to both genders actually, it's just kind of a lot worse for women
welcome to the real world, where society makes women feel like shit if they aren't a size 0 and caked in makeup. you, as a dude, have basically no pressure to be a certain size compared to women.
We do actually, buff, a six pack, all of that shit. In addition society dictates that we act a certain way, "manning up" essentially. Stop acting as if men don't face any negative societal pressures, because that's a fucking lie.

I'm usually the one to say that; every one of these threads involving feminism, or MRAs, or anything involving SJWs, always, ALWAYS, go beyond 3-4 pages. It's interesting, to be honest.

yeah, men are pressured too. everybody's pressured to achieve some kind of perfection that nobody can reach.
i'm talking about women right now, tho, who have a lot more pressure put on them.
all human beings are expected to conform.
this doesnt need to be said i hope
I still don't get what the deal is with obese people who're complaining.
Heck I don't get the deal with people complaining about their physique in general.
If you've got a problem with it, perhaps you should deal with it instead of just sitting around on a computer, writing your opinion.
I'm skinny, 5'7" and 125lbs, and I fucking hate it. Solution? Bought 100lbs worth of weights, set myself the challenge to lift it all in one arm by 2015.
Don't forget penis size
well no-one is expected to conform to penis size. its more that we associate certain things with the size of the penis which is a very homoerotic masculine concept.
it all comes from the greek and roman days. its interesting how, not involved women were at that time period when it came to male sexuality.
this is of course not true of all civilisations.
all human beings are expected to conform.
this doesnt need to be said i hope
nobody's really been saying this verbatim, but i'm really hating this "but we're pressured and we suffer too! you're not allowed to feel bad!" kind of attitude i've been seeing in threads like these over the internet.
