"Bikini Bridge" upsetting fat people and Feminists

Look. I agree, women have it worse. They just do. I want that changed. But apparently you guys act like it'd be best if it changed for women first then for men. Why can't we discuss this without making it petty and a pissing contest? The second men get brought up, half of you act like there is no discussion to be had, but clearly there is.
you forgot this post awfully quick then pal
compared to women.
why do you think i put like 30 arrows around "compared"
men with big muscles, lots of cash, and tons of chicks is more of a power fantasy. they're not being dressed up in those magazines as a thing to "get," they're a status to achieve.
when you see women in swimsuits in ads/magazines (that are targeted towards men) they're objectified. "buy the colonge and get this girl." they're a thing to achieve, an object. hence "objectification."
[editline]8th January 2014[/editline]
short version: men are rarely objectified in advertisements. they can be, but i can't think of a clear example off the top of my head.
Wasn't there a study recently about how men are viewed more as a person while women are viewed more of an object, by both men and women?

look, you're saying "Compared to someone who's basically been a slave for men for thousands of years, you have no problems". We're talking about the last little period of time I imagine being the past 30 years or so.
Yeah, women have had it worse, but we're getting to the stage where it's getting nearly equal. If we can't have the discussion about how men fit into this, when will we? how can we?
Fat people aren't bullied enough in real life so people on Facepunch have to create fat people in their head to laugh at.
It's really weird, because I would've thought at least 60-70% of users on an internet gaming forum would be overweight.

"nearly"
the fact that my friends still get cat called really rubs me the wrong way, it shouldn't be like that.

we can. we have on this forum in the past, but this thread is about women's issues. this bikini page was targeted towards WOMEN. a lot of people getitng pissed off about this are WOMEN. the first few posters in this thread were making fun of female feminists. this is not a thread about men's rights. just because i'm not talking about men's rights right now doesn't mean that i'm ignoring them entirely.

I don't know whether to agree or not
what is the proper method of greeting somebody on a night out? a cat call is a whistle, or general compliment from afar, no?

So that's the format of all cat calls? I haven't heard those called cat calls myself but okay, I guess that's what all cat calls are

This thread is about a joke some people from 4chan made. At some point it turned into some big meta discussion about objectification which involves more than one side.
Like seriously, maybe when I go out to the bars I don't get the douchebags out, but that's not a normal "cat call" in my experience.
I mean I even specified what I thought they were but hey, that's what they all are according to you

cat·call
ˈkatˌkôl/
a shrill whistle or shout of disapproval, typically one made at a public meeting or performance.
literally the definition of the word "cat call."

okay then i'm wrong
I didn't know you meant that, now I do
now when I think of cat call I'll think of that and not "hey beautiful" shout from across the street like my friends have done in my life, but okay then.

that's still the same thing. it's creepy and weird to "compliment" a stranger's apperance for no reason. why would you think that's even remotely acceptable?
that's still the same thing. it's creepy and weird to "compliment" a stranger's apperance for no reason. why would you think that's even remotely acceptable?
because apparently i'm a terrible human being by your standards and discuss concepts of attractiveness with people that I like to talk with?
what should we talk about after we talked about what we like to do in life and jobs and proffessions and school and whatever else? Is that literally a taboo topic?
And i'm talking about in a discussion after said girl has walked across the street to talk to our group of friends with her group of friends.

Then it's not a cat call any more. You're actually talking to her. Cat calling is literally shouting obnoxious shit like "I'd fuck you any day" at random women from across the street, with no other discussion. Just obnoxious shouting with no rhyme or reason.

why are you still talking about cat calls? what you are describing is not a cat call at all. that's having a conversation.
welcome to the real world, where society makes women feel like shit if they aren't a size 0 and caked in makeup. you, as a dude, have basically no pressure to be a certain size compared to women.
I honestly can't tell if you're being serious. I'm 6'1" and 115 pounds, but I'm by no means an "emaciated-looking" person, which I have been described to my face to appear to be. The reason for my thinness, though, is because of my incredibly small skeletal frame, wiry muscle build and efficient metabolism. I'm perfectly healthy, but I am told all the time that I need to "beef up," and the suggestions I'm given in that regard are almost always one or both of two statements: "eat more" and "work out more."
I eat enough where, if my metabolism was not as efficient as it is, I would very likely be disgustingly obese. I eat all the time. However, despite how much I eat, people still say that I look emaciated and need to eat more. At the same time, I work out a decent bit. Likely because of my muscle shape and other genetic factors, I simply cannot gain that much muscle mass. My arms are muscularly well-defined, but since I don't have bulging biceps people tell me that I need to work out more. This irks me because a lot of people who tell me that are those 5'6" bodybuilder type people who claim that anything I say against their unnecessary suggestions is a "cop-out."
And, as a result of these two factors, I suffer horrible body dysmorphia. It's not fun being told that I need to go fix stuff, especially when I already do said things, and that I have all these problems. I figure that I cannot be the only male who feels this way.
Of course, the pressure is much more pronounced and as well more severe on women, but you seem to be saying that a similar pressure isn't put on guys. If there's no bad pressure there, then why do my peers who look like they've been ripped straight out of a television advertisement not get any flak? Men certainly have pressure to be within a specific size range.
Exactly, I don't get why some people can say to me "fucking hell you're tiny" and sometimes even grab me to inspect my size, but I can't just stroll up to a stranger and blurt out "wahey look at you, you fat cunt" and start wobbling their belly around
I remember in 7th grade some girl called me skinny in a sort of malicious way so I said, "Oh yeah? Well you're fat."

don't ruin the special surprise inside
why the fuck am I even awake it's been like 29 hours
no i didn't? i said that men's issues in the media and advertisments are small >>>COMPARED<<<< to women
I know you probably didn't mean it like this, and I realise it's something of an expression, but you did repeatedly use the words "nothing compared to" which does make it sound like you think men's body issues aren't worth mentioning.
I see it as another version of saying "well, these guys have it worse, so your problem is totally insignificant", which can be used to invalidate absolutely anyone's problems, all the way down to the most hard-done-to people on earth: think how many people say "these stupid white western feminists should take a tour in the middle east, then they'll know REAL oppression" or something similarly asinine. I'd say the magnitude difference between misogyny in rich western countries and misogyny in middle eastern countries is similar to that between women's and men's body issues, but that doesn't mean that men's body issues are nothing. if all problems can be treated in parallel, then they deserve to be; as humankind, we are capable of acting on more than one front at the same time.
also yes, it is impossible to argue this properly because of all the people derailing about men's body issues, which is very annoying, and definitely out of line. as you said, this was about women's problems.

what? maybe i like the color of their shoes. how is it unacceptable to compliment someone?
why are you still talking about cat calls?
why did you completely ignore my post when i asked for justification?

If you're just shouting "nice shoes" or whatever, that's not a cat call. Cat calls are always obnoxious comments on the appearance of someone ("eeeeyyyyy lovely jugs!!!", "what an arse!", you get the idea). It's still kinda weird to complement people on specific parts of their attire unless they are that unique mind.
Haha this thread. Wow.
