Wish granted. http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1311760
The difference here is that the crowd never even had the chance to do the damage and the driver didn't hit one of them first like they did in that case.
Plus, I don't see anything going on in the video besides him running over people. It's not the best quality so I will take it lightly, but we can see a lot of the car, and I see no action from the crowd. I've played it back a lot and right when he starts gunning it, I see some guy walk in from of the car seemingly unaware, but nobody hitting the windshield. I wouldn't be so sure this guy is trying to cover his ass because he got angry and rammed a crowd, because that's exactly what this video looks like. Like I said I'm taking this lightly, but I've watched the video close up about 10 times now and I just don't see the signs of aggression, at least up until the point where he takes off.
Actually no, he drove into the crowd before they did anything, his car was literally half way into the crowd before anyone could even have a chance to get angry. Honestly, at that point, he's got it coming. I would be pretty intimidated if I was in front of him and that happened to me. The crowd around me is pretty think, and if I was right there in front of his hood I would jump onto the hood too to avoid getting run over. Personally, I would never under any circumstances attempt to drive through a large crowd, not even very slowly unless there was a third party involved such as a traffic guard or police officer. It's just a stupid idea, you could really hurt somebody, including children, elderly, etc. This guy is far from innocent, and he would have an argument if he didn't attempt to get through in the first place, which he by law had no right to do. Watch the video. Plus them being deaf is completely irrelevant in this situation, I don't even know why the article had to mention it.
Oh there's definitely dangers in going into the crowd, even slowly, and they never should have done so. What I'm saying is that this was not an act of aggression, it was an attempt at getting through. It was stupid, it was illegal, but it didn't seem aggressive to me. At this point, the crowd was in the wrong for illegally disrupting traffic despite it being extremely easy to let car through, and the car was in the wrong for attempting to slowly move through the crowd.

Like how hard is it to just let the car through?
They're cunts for not moving. Like how hard is it to just let the car through?
Legally they don't HAVE to(at least in regards to the people crossing at the cross walk) but being nice is a foreign concept to that crowd.
Legally they don't HAVE to(at least in regards to the people crossing at the cross walk) but being nice is a foreign concept to that crowd.
They do, unnecessarily blocking traffic is illegal, and they could easily have let the car through.
With regards to the whole deaf people driving thing. People without arms can get a license. It's actually fairly common for people without legs/people crippled below the waste, to have licenses. Both seriously impact your ability to drive. As long as you have training, it's fine for residential driving. A deaf person merely needs to be more active in looking around.
zombie walks are awful
Everyone here seems to be forgetting that zombie walks are like parades, and they have permits and authorization to use the streets like this. I attended a Zombie Walk in Memphis once. They work with police well prior to the event to get everything set up. They're in the legal right.

I didn't see any streets blocked off or anything in this video. You'd think if there had been police involvement in this then they could have intervened before anything happened.
It is like you read part way through and stopped, there were people crossing on both sides normally which is not them causing unnecessary delays or stops and according to C and D;
(c) The driver of a vehicle approaching a pedestrian within any marked or unmarked crosswalk shall exercise all due care and shall reduce the speed of the vehicle or take any other action relating to the operation of the vehicle as necessary to safeguard the safety of the pedestrian. (d) Subdivision (b)does not relieve a driver of a vehicle from the duty of exercising due care for the safety of any pedestrian within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection.
The people in the middle of the street who were stopped were in the wrong, but he never had right of way regardless of them due to the people crossing continuously. oh and I found this while looking it up http://www.deadline.com/2014/07/comic-con-hit-and-run-zombie-march/
Although his department is not charged with investigating this incident – that’s being done by the Traffic Division – White emphasized that “the pedestrians that were crossing the street legally have the right of way. For vehicle code and common sense, you cannot use a car to move people out of the way. Never ever can you use a deadly weapon to make a path across a crowd of people. When you are in a busy congested area, you must wait. I do not want to condone people’s impatience in justifying a car to go through a crowd of people.”

I've been saying that over and over again, both parties were in the wrong.
I made an edit, some might be annoyed about. It seems that the driver was more in the wrong.
-meeeerge-
Huh, maybe I missed something but it looked like the driver was more or less signaling "hey let me by" then a fuck ton of people started getting threatening which spooked the driver
Huh, maybe I missed something but it looked like the driver was more or less signaling "hey let me by" then a fuck ton of people started getting threatening which spooked the driver
Thing is, trying to push through a crowd of people in a car, even slowly, is extremely dangerous. I wouldn't say they were trying to do any damage before everybody started freaking out, but they very well could have accidentally.
Huh, maybe I missed something but it looked like the driver was more or less signaling "hey let me by" then a fuck ton of people started getting threatening which spooked the driver
In California a vehicle is classed as a deadly weapon, he was basically trying to force his way through the crowd by using he car as a bargaining chip for lack of better explanation. He was not supposed to even try to begin to cross, due to people crossing on both the close and far sides especially.
https://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d11/vc21950.htm Seriously, they have right of way.

(b) This section does not relieve a pedestrian from the duty of using due care for his or her safety. No pedestrian may suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle that is so close as to constitute an immediate hazard. No pedestrian may unnecessarily stop or delay traffic while in a marked or unmarked crosswalk.
whoops this has been pointed out already
To all the guys asking why didn't the pedestrians move away. The law says the car must always give priority to pedestrians, no exceptions. It's the driver's fault
most of the people he plowed into were walking and not fucking with the car so I don't see how you can justify this shit he had ample room to reverse his car too
The driver of the car was absolutely at fault for escalating the situation by honking the horn and inching forward but everything they did after someone started pounding on their window was excusable imo
The driver of the car was absolutely at fault for escalating the situation by honking the horn and inching forward but everything they did after someone started pounding on their window was excusable imo
I don't see why rolling a literal ton over a crowd of random people, many of which weren't even involved, gets so much leniency compared to other forms of self-defense.
That was a pretty sensationalized video. For one: Why is the family not finding an alternate route like literally everybody else probably is. It also doesn't look like anyone tried to pull someone out of the car. Just looks like he opened the door to fuck with them. Immature behavior but it doesn't look like anyone was doing any actual physical harm to the family or the vehicle. Plus there's not exactly a way to just guess that an entire car full of people are impaired.
If you'll notice the forth line in the quote in the OP "Some crowd members became angry, surrounded the car, pounded on it, climbed on it and smashed the windshield, he said." So yeah, physical harm to the vehicle. Way to read the OP, let alone the article.
Why not simply do a u-turn and find an alternate route? Doesn't matter which way you look at this, the driver is at fault.
new video link?
this video clearly shows that both members of the crowd and the driver were being asshats but the driver really nearly ran over kids which in my opinion makes his position weaker. i found more videos and information here http://www.deadline.com/2014/07/comic-con-hit-and-run-zombie-march/
Why not simply do a u-turn and find an alternate route? Maybe you're just shit out of luck if you want to cross.
Zombie walk sounds like a stupid idea. I mean, it's a bunch of fratboys covered in blood, carrying hammers & sticks. I'd be glad to see them be run over.

We can disagree on that (I love cosplays done right), but you are entitled to your opinion so it's okay to not like it.
Wait a sec, I'm confused here. Title says it's in San Francisco but the article says San Diego.
