what the fuck no you are dodging this so much Your constant explanation for why it should be mandatory has been "because it is mandatory". Now you claim your explanation is "because I think it's good" and you won't say why. Say why, that's what I want. I can't just say "this job plan is automatically good because the economy is important"
The mandate isn't a good thing because it's a compromise. But there are much bigger issues with the bill, ie the stripping of the public option.
The mandate isn't a good thing because it's a compromise. But there are much bigger issues with the bill, ie the stripping of the public option.
Exactly. That can't be undone though. I support the rest of the bill, just not the mandate. I don't want the whole bill to go under because of the mandate, but it's possible to only remove that part. [editline]28th September 2011[/editline]
Because health insurance is a national issue that not only directly affects the well-being of literally every single citizen but also the country itself (its financial situation, general medical care and treatment quality, etc.). Why would you let something that important be decided on a state-by-state basis? That makes zero sense.
So it's more important. Yet another difference between it and car insurance.
Question, how will the law be funded without the mandate?
Question, how will the law be funded without the mandate?
Obama will confiscate your guns and sell them to the reds!!
Question, how will the law be funded without the mandate?
The mandate makes money for the insurance companies, the law itself isn't funded by it. They're huge businesses, they can afford to take a hit for the sake of being regulated to not be dicks. They aren't going to make it much more expensive because they'd lose more money that way. They have competition. Unless you're talking about the money that will be collected from fines, which is highly detestable motivation for a mandate.
This law didn't do a fucking thing. I had a stay in the hospital for 4 days, instant $11,000 lost. Just 4 months ago too.
This law didn't do a fucking thing. I had a stay in the hospital for 4 days, instant $11,000 lost. Just 4 months ago too.
did the propaganda that this was "universal healthcare" get to you? you should probably learn more about the bill before saying it did nothing just because it didn't save you boatloads of money.
This law didn't do a fucking thing. I had a stay in the hospital for 4 days, instant $11,000 lost. Just 4 months ago too.
It doesn't even go into effect until 2014 you nonce.
It doesn't even go into effect until 2014 you nonce.
Parts of it go into effect each year, it's scattered. A lot of the big stuff is 2014 though, yeah.
Parts of it go into effect each year, it's scattered. A lot of the big stuff is 2014 though, yeah.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. That's like going up to FDR right after he passed the New Deal and going "why isn't my life better yet!!".
Question, how will the law be funded without the mandate?
It's not funded WITH the mandate. [editline]28th September 2011[/editline]
This law didn't do a fucking thing. I had a stay in the hospital for 4 days, instant $11,000 lost.
It's not funded WITH the mandate.
So that fee for not getting insurance is not part of it? Or is there some other way to fund it?
So that fee for not getting insurance is not part of it? Or is there some other way to fund it?
It's funded like any act is funded Glaber. [editline]28th September 2011[/editline] Summary of funding The Act's provisions are intended to be funded by a variety of taxes and offsets. Major sources of new revenue include a much-broadened Medicare tax on incomes over $200,000 and $250,000, for individual and joint filers respectively, an annual fee on insurance providers, and a 40% tax on "Cadillac" insurance policies. There are also taxes on pharmaceuticals, high-cost diagnostic equipment, and a federal sales tax on indoor tanning services. Offsets are from intended cost savings such as improved fairness in the Medicare Advantage program relative to traditional Medicare.[32] Total new tax revenue from the Act will amount to $409.2 billion over the next 10 years. $78 billion will be realized before the end of fiscal 2014.[33] Summary of revenue sources: * Broaden Medicare tax base for high-income taxpayers: $210.2 billion * Annual fee on health insurance providers: $60 billion * 40% excise tax on health coverage in excess of $10,200/$27,500: $32 billion * Impose annual fee on manufacturers and importers of branded drugs: $27 billion * Impose 2.3% excise tax on manufacturers and importers of certain medical devices: $20 billion * Require information reporting on payments to corporations: $17.1 billion * Raise 7.5% Adjusted Gross Income floor on medical expenses deduction to 10%: 15.2 billion * Limit health flexible spending arrangements in cafeteria plans: $13 billion * All other revenue sources: $14.9 billion Here's a list.
Politics sucks.
So that fee for not getting insurance is not part of it? Or is there some other way to fund it?
I was afraid of this. wow, seriously? You think it's okay to pay for a bill by fining the poorest Americans?
I was afraid of this. wow, seriously? You think it's okay to pay for a bill by fining the poorest Americans?
Honestly? NO. I'm asking for clarification and implying that Obama, and anyone else that supported this mandate thinks this (Democrat, Republican or third party) at the same time. How'd you even make that connection anyway? Lack of sleep? Last I was informed, this law is being funded by the mandate. (Last informed time 2:20 pm Sep 28 via radio)
Last I was informed, this law is being funded by the mandate. (Last informed time 2:20 pm Sep 28 via radio)
It's not. I posted a list of costs above. and whoever said that on the radio is an idiot.
Last I was informed, this law is being funded by the mandate. (Last informed time 2:20 pm Sep 28 via radio)
And just what radio program were you listening to?
I can only imagine.
How about you raise taxes and give all US citizens free healthcare just like all the other first world countries
How about you raise taxes and give all US citizens free healthcare just like all the other first world countries
Because, to quote the biggest redneck I know, "why should I have to pay for Johnny Crackhead!" [editline]29th September 2011[/editline] he is a living stereotype it's hilarious.
