also of interest, a dude got fed up with the poor coverage and decided to do some of his own on his blog personally I think it's better than CNN/FOX parroting "what are they even protesting" back and forth
Also, here is a quick question: Why should we get a degree in Biology? That won't help with computer engineering in her father's case. We don't know what career her mom was in before, but it seems safe to say that if you leave your job, having a degree means all of dick.
We don't know what career her mom was in before, but it seems safe to say that if you leave your job, having a degree means all of dick.
It also means she isn't part of the "100% productive members of society".

He tried to use an example of him being a dickhead and not just moving to another table to let the Media Team take pictures as a reason there was something wrong with the protests?
Anonymous destroy the credibility of the protest, are they even aware how much they fuck up? Spoiler: [sp]No, because they are dumb kiddos who credit themselves with way more impotence then they have[/sp]
I fucking hate anonymous. -.- If you wear a guy fawkes mask to a protest, you're not as cool as you think people perceive you.
Objectivism was supposed to be about the inventors and scientists and shit, not the corporate managers and executives, they're just the ones who bought into it. I know nobody in here actually read any of Rand's work (not that I'd encourage you to, Shrugged is pretty much firewood) but the characters she had a boner for were all ubermenschy super-architects and engineers and shit. She complained about stupid CEOs as much as the next guy.
Bullshit. Ayn Rand didn't hate CEOs, and she didn't make all of the scientists and engineers in her book good, either. In Atlas Shrugged, the "good guys" were the ones that made themselves who they are, where as the "bad guys" were the ones who rode off of other mens' success without acknowledging it. Of course, she took that way the fuck too far and made any form of taxation, government, charity, environmentalism, or cessation of industrial progress an unspeakable evil (literally, nobody who did it managed to talk about it in Atlas Shrugged). Seriously, Ayn Rand was a nutjob, but anyone who says she hated or adored a group clearly didn't read her works. She was about the individual, and only the individual.

I find the use of the terms "Fascist" and "Anarchist" in a 'casual' sense to be quite ridiculous and degrading to what the words actually mean.

To control their actions and not try and ride off success of others. Bad philosophy for a country or political system to follow, though.

Honestly, if you find that part fine, then really the only thing that is, is just a personal system of having self-confidence. Nothing else.
I find the use of the terms "Fascist" and "Anarchist" in a 'casual' sense to be quite ridiculous and degrading to what the words actually mean.
Fuck you, you damn casual fascist.

Hell, my dad is a conservative libertarian and he says Ayn Rand and Objectivists are sorta insane. I was just commenting on that one part. Really? Even pay 1 fucking dollar. That is still ~$150,000,000.
It seems like the first half of your post declares that everyone should pay taxes, then the second half doesn't. But regardless, why shouldn't the wealthy pay their taxes? Everyone else does, and it heavily influences spending habits for some people. Why is it okay for a CEO to pay less in taxes than a librarian, how is that fair?
I didn't say that. I am just saying, they shouldn't have to compensate HALF OF AMERICA. What CEO's are paying less than ANY librarian? Seriously, I would like to know.
This is a good example of not how to act: You don't need more negative media fuel like that.
Is that guy this guy: [editline]9th October 2011[/editline] Haha, look at the thumbnails.
Both books are shit, but I suffered through them.
Oh my God, remember John Galt's full-length 3-hour-long speech right before the collapse of society that summarized THE ENTIRE 1,200 PREVIOUS PAGES? I read it in one sitting at normal speaking speed. It literally took over three hours. But that's not the point. The point is that the current economic system is terrible, and at the very least we need to stop lobbyists from toying with government and balance our goddamned budget. Debt may have been a good thing when the nation was founded, but it's just making a bad situation worse now.
wow this is a incredibly bitter 13 year old
Ugh, I HATE people who just say "JUST GET A JOB". Like it's that simple. I've been applying to places (including McDonalds and grocery stores) for months and months and have only managed to get a job that pays me 8 dollars an hour for about 4 hours a week. Fact is, getting a job? Okay maybe it's not AS difficult as everyone makes it seem. But getting a WELL PAYING job that can actually sustain a human being? That's hard as fuck. I barely make enough to feed myself and pay for gas. I would never be able to be out on my own with my current job. I also hate the social stigma that's been placed on the word "hippie". I think someone said something about it earlier.

To control their actions and not try and ride off success of others. Bad philosophy for a country or political system to follow, though.
That's not objectivism, what he described. This is objectivism: [release]Objectivism holds that reality exists independent of consciousness, that human beings have direct contact with reality through sense perception, that one can attain objective knowledge from perception through the process of concept formation and inductive logic, that the proper moral purpose of one's life is the pursuit of one's own happiness or rational self-interest, that the only social system consistent with this morality is full respect for individual rights, embodied in laissez faire capitalism, and that the role of art in human life is to transform man's widest metaphysical ideas, by selective reproduction of reality, into a physical form—a work of art—that one can comprehend and to which he can respond emotionally.[/release] Additionally, objectivists believe (because of the above) that there is one true system of morality inherent in humanity. (ie: christian dogma without the christian bit) lol
Assuming you didn't mean working 4 hours a week? :X
That's exactly what I mean. 4 whole hours for an entire week, giving me about 8 hours per paycheck which gives me $64 per paycheck. Just enough to pay for gas, food, and groceries. Nothing else.
Both books are shit, but I suffered through them.
I've also heard that both are amazing reads as well. I guess I gotta find a copy of them and find out.
