A former Marine is going to the protests, in uniform, to protect protesters from the police - and he's urging others to join him [release]I didn't fight for Wall St. I fought for America. Now it's Congress' turn. My true hope, though, is that we Veterans canact as first line of defense between the police and the protester. If they want to get to some protesters so they can mace them, they will have to get through the Fucking Marine Corps first. Let's see a cop mace abunch of decorated war vets.[/release] Badass
I had the thought "What if the protesters were all given body armor and nothing else?" But now war veterans are willing to stand in front of the protesters to allow them freedom of speech and expression? Awesome.
Precisely. They're having a media black out right now. Hardly any news stations are covering it, NYPD denies all allegations of police brutality, and the men and women on Wall Street aren't taking it seriously.
I find it fucking stupid how they're all covering Michael Jackson shit yet again.
CEOs do deserve a share of the company's income, but some CEOs like to take too big of a share.
I have nothing against people who work their way to the top of the chain and hit CEO. That's an awesome thing to do, and it comes with a shit ton of responsibility. The problem isn't that people in the country are getting rich, that's the whole goal. The point is, they are using their influence negatively, to hurt those that directly or indirectly got them to where they were, which is basically everyone in the country, via taxes and being customers or what have you. When the wealthy who got to where they are use that benefit to avoid paying taxes, either by clever manipulation of accounts, or just using a lot of tax shelters, they are basically saying "I know I owe my success to people, but I don't want to play by the rules anymore." So for fuck's sake, don't vilify making money, when you damn well know you all would like to have a good job that pays well, and leaves room to move up. Vilify the people who are a part of the problem, the ones who duck out of taxes, and using lobbying to influence the direction of the country away from one that benefits the people. Also, don't act like people in the financial sector don't work and don't deserve their pay, when you aren't even being specific, you're just saying anyone in the financial sector doesn't work for/deserve their pay. It's ignorant, especially if you can't even give good reasons why. That one wasn't pointed at you, KillerJaguar, I just don't feel like quoting more people.
I find it fucking stupid how they're all covering Michael Jackson shit yet again.
Michael Jackson has and will always be the best distraction story in modern journalism. He always managed to jerk off a dying kid just when a war wasn't going too well. Even in death he's still helping out
-snip-
Which I completely agree with too. Some CEOs will do anything to keep as large of a share of the company's profits through any means such lobbying the government to escape taxes. It's just that a lot of people on this forum seem to be completely against CEOs because they make more money for what seems like a lot less work. I'm not entrepreneur or CEO, but I can take a good guess that managing the livelihood of a multibillion dollar company can be very taxing mentally, as opposed to physically. [editline]30th September 2011[/editline] To clarify, I'm not defending Wall Street's CEOs because they deliberately cheat the system into their favor.

If every CEO was like them the world would be a better place. Using live rounds against unarmed people is distributing wealth. By wealth, I of course mean lawsuits and a mass charge of angry people.
Fox News viewers on these protests:
Why do they sound more and more fascist every day?
Fox News viewers on these protests:
The hammer and cycle...
Fox News viewers on these protests:
That was actually depressing to read.
That'd be like suggesting that they should break out the swastika because they're talking about killing people based on their creed....
Why do they sound more and more fascist every day?
The tea party is a step a way from being fascist. I mean they got the scapegoat thing down pat.
Fox News viewers on these protests:
I feel like Fox gets their employees to go to their articles and make these comments.

Well, good luck protesters, I don't stand behind you, but good luck. Some minor change would be fine.
So what exactly is the end goal of this protest? "ending greed and corporation" is pretty vague.
The soldiers and the news from san francisco is great. -snip- fake, not an official release. [editline]30th September 2011[/editline] Story on the protest in spokane: http://www.kxly.com/news/29356642/detail.html [release]Protesters Camp Out Downtown To Occupy Spokane Erik Loney | KXLY4 Reporter Posted: 6:08 pm PDT September 30, 2011 Text Size AAA SPOKANE, Wash. -- A protest against corporate greed is underway in downtown Spokane, with picketers lined up along Monroe Street in conjunction with protests going on across the country, including on Wall Street in New York. "We're tired of corporate greed and immorality," Adam Summerhill, who has been protesting for the last three days, said. "We want to see this stuff cleaned up want people to be human again, we're all human." Summerhill is part of Occupy Spokane, the local version of a large protest underway in New York City called Occupy Wall Street. Hundreds of people have been camped out for two weeks in a demonstration against corporate greed. "America is eroding. America is being tied up by corporations," Jessica McPhail said. McPhail tied herself up in an American flag to prove her point. "We've been electing people that say they're going to give us change. But the change hasn't occurred and it isn't going to occur until we start occupying Wall Street," she said. The movement's website says the 99-percent will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the one percent. Occupy Spokane set up camp in grassy medians at Monroe and Riverside Wednesday night. Around 9 a.m. Friday Spokane Police told protesters they had to pack up their tents, saying they were violating the city's transient shelter ordinance. The city says the group didn't have a permit to camp and made them pick up tents. "Everybody has right to be heard and they can stand on a street corner with their posters and wave to cars but they're not allowed to live here," Spokane City spokesperson Marlene Feist said. Protesters say they're not deterred and not going away and they plan to continue their protest. "You're all part of it. I really doubt people listening are part of the one-percent, you're 99-percenters, come join us," protester Dave Bilsland said. "If we can get one or two or three people to wake up and say this is wrong and do something about it then we've done our job," Adam Summerhill added.[/release]

Apperently, an e-mail was sent out to all State Street employees in Massachusetts today advising them of the * possibility* that large protests might take place in front of the State Street Financial Center in Boston's Financial District.
what is this protest even against?
what is this protest even against?
Corruption in government, unemployment, and corporate benefits. Mainly.
Or maybe are they scared inside and trying to hide it ?
Or maybe they were attending a reception and went out to see what the fuss was about. [editline]1st October 2011[/editline]
Don't put this in your posts.
"Dude, we can't let people know that's what we think!"
The "release" I posted earlier turns out to not be real as no real source can be found.
United Steelworkers Union is now a supporter. They have around a million members, definitely someone you want on your side
Although I admire their spirit and their exercising of their 1st amendment rights, I genuinely feel that these protests aren't going to amount to anything
