It's almost as if you could save $110m by simply requiring people to register their vote online.
The online census didn't go too well and it's not exactly the most secure method of voting but for a glorified opinion poll, why not.
It's a 120 million dollar attempt to weasel out of a campaign promise to not treat LGBT as subhumans.
I find it funny how in this current economical climate some goverments are more than welcome to spend milions to further their agenda but not use them in a way to help solve actual issues in society.

We'll be just like New Zealand then!
That's what the plebiscite is. A non-binding survey on whether one group should have the same rights as the rest of us.
And it cost $120m.
But it's ok, the PM promised to vote in line with the results of the survey!
Opposing same sex marriage on the grounds of "its not natural" is like opposing the consumption of meat because it's cruel to animals, or opposing the vaccination of kids because it might have side effects.
... oh wait...
We should go back to hunting and gathering. All this technology and agriculture are just totally unnatural. Ah wait, in that case marriage itself is totally unnatural too since it's just a social construct. Pretty much every aspect of our modern society can be considered unnatural. So even if allowing same sex marriage was somehow unnatural it's a completely irrelevant point for them to even make.

Nah even that's unnatural. We should return to the ocean and devolve back into single cell organisms. That's the most natural thing we can do.

The most natural thing to do is just not exist.

I contemplate my own non-existence every day already.
why be on the right side of history when you can be on the best side of history?
