I'm amazed that people buy this. Convinced the only reason these things sell is because it looks like a shiny nice appliance you can show off in your kitchen.
It's such a huge waste of money. These machines don't make coffee that's any better or worse than a normal coffee maker that brews correctly with nice quality beans, but its twice as expensive and you'll be spending 4X more in coffee using their cup system. If quality is your concern, you'll get much better coffee just making it in a nice quality french press with beans you grinds yourself at the store (free) or at home if you want it fresher (you'll need a grinder, not more than $20-$40). Hell you don't even need to do that - just buy nicer quality coffee beans. Viola!
Seriously, just buy some nice arabican whole bean coffee at the store, grind it at the store, and then make coffee with that. It'll taste so much better than Folgers, and taste just as nice (if not better) than a Keurig.
The only place where a Keurig makes sense is in an office where people just make coffee on demand next to the water cooler as a company expense. Or in lobby's where your customers can make themselves coffee on demand while they wait.
I have a Keurig but I use the reusable plastic pod that you fill with whatever coffee you want. That way I'm not paying for overpriced pods and I get to make one cup of coffee when I don't want to make a whole pot for myself.
How do people not see what a massive, unbelievable scam this is compared to regular coffee?
The machines are worth because they almost instantly heat water to tea or ramen levels
I have a coffeemate knock off keurig and I use my own coffee in reusable filter cups that I bought on ebay for $2. It's way easier because I'm the only one here who drinks coffee so making a whole pot is time consuming and it gets wasted.
this might blow you mind, but you can actually adjust the amount of coffee you make by putting in less ground coffee and water. whoa
The machines are worth because they almost instantly heat water to tea or ramen levels
need my ramen NOW and i dont have 30 seconds more to wait for the kettle. im just going to drop a few bills on a coffee machine so i can make my 30 cent instant noodle literally instantly.
How many offices don't have those water cooler things that also do hot water? Those things also despense ramen/tea/coffee ready hot water in an instant and they have no chance of DRM and they've been around forever.
I'm hearing almost nothing but hate for this coffee
this only solidifies that this is basically a massive scam
Also, I hope all the people who use these shitty machines are aware of the poisons leaching out by pushing scalding hot liquid though a piece of plastic. It's already bad enough to drink hot stuff from plastic cups but if you apply pressure to it then it just makes it so much worse.

These cups are so stupidly wasteful, they're literally packaging 2 teaspoons of coffee(not sure if this is exact amount.) and then marketing it as it's the next best thing since sliced bread. It's like the apple product of the coffee drinkers world I suppose.

That's because, like most apple products, the K-cup is just another shiny overpriced gadget for college kids to show off to one another.

Worth it, plus the coffee things aren't even a problem. Unfortunately most of the people shit talking the Keurig's have probably never used them, funny because there are so many people that are extremely positive about the product, especially those who have bought it.

the difference is apple products are pricey but good and you don't get fucked over nearly as much as... drm on a COFFEE MACHINE of all things
this is coming from a windows / android lover

At least with an Apple product I can do more than make subpar coffee.
You can't play Doom on subpar coffee.
At least with an Apple product I can do more than make subpar coffee.

No but I wouldn't doubt you could play Doom on a subpar coffee machine.
Hearing something as ridiculous as DRM on a coffee machine/coffee cups makes me glad I never bothered with one of those. I grew up around instant and perk coffee, and I guess I'll be staying there if they wanna do something like that.

Depends on what brand you buy, gevalia has K-cubs as well, which are really convenient for my parents when they don't want to make a whole pot at night, but want a single cup.
Personally, I love my Keurig (that I won at a raffle, along with a few of those cups that let you brew your own coffee :v:) just because one, its a lot faster than a normal coffee machine, two, I don't need to make a whole pot and waste coffee when I just want a cup.

The actual machines are nice, hell the k machine is shit and you can get the kitchen Aid one for about the same price but twice the durability. Just dont get the actual k-cups and just use a reusable one. If i want coffe i can have it brewed in a minute with exactly how much i want. Reduces waste and speeds up the time.
My dad just uses one of these: [t]https://secure.teeccino.com/images/uploads/products2/90031.jpg[/t]
To hell with these stupid machines. Such a waste of money and materials.
That still needs you to pour in hot water to make your coffee. These do that for you and can make coffee as fast as the heater allows.
Wouldn't the average consumer just resort to buying a third party single-cup machine?
I don't use these anyways, because I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to coffee. I prefer grinding my beans and buying fair-trade, the flavor is just much better.

When you're by yourself and you don't need to make an entire pot the Kurieg is a godsend.
Plus you can make a cup of hot water with it (instead of traditionally boiling in on the stove).
Can't wait until we can order free-trade and open-source coffee at hipster cafes.

You could use something like an aeropress, those are pretty quick and produce good tasting coffee.
And electric kettles can heat up water pretty quick as well.
these break down in under two years or so. why bother buying one to begin with when you can get a decent coffee machine for like 30-40 dollars.
From what I've heard, this may very well be just a big scare tactic to get people to buy a lot of the (currently DRM-less) Keurig machines, because Keurig knows that a big part of why people buy Keurig is the other brands of cups. As to how it'd be handled, people have suggested RFID chips that get destroyed when the cup is used (just make them really thin and add a spike that goes through them or something)
Still, it's really silly to buy a Keurig unless you absolutely need those 10 minutes every morning, which you could use to make some decent coffee (a french press and an aeropress both make a single cup in that amount of time, and a normal drip machine or a moka pot will make a pot in that amount of time, any of them for $50 total or so. you don't need to be a snob or anything, you can just buy pre-ground store-brand coffee by the pound) or put that $300 the new machines will cost towards a bean-fed "super-automatic" machine, which reduces the cost of coffee and the waste it makes every time, and is exactly just as convenient.

You guys know you can just put a cup of water and a spoonful or so of coffee in any drip machine and it'll make a single cup, right
The whole idea of per-cup servings of coffee being provided in little cups that pop into a machine and make you a fresh cup of coffee is nothing short of brilliant. The fact that they provided multiple brands to choose from was even better. I could totally understand the original coffee makers costing a lot because it's a new way of doing it and nobody else is making cheaper units yet.
But they decided to completely clamp down on the market. The machines never got cheaper and neither did the cost per cup. I have no idea what study convinced them that adding DRM to your fucking coffee would be a great idea. They just fucking doomed their product.
My parents are extremely lazy, so they got a Keurig coffee machine. Now all my dad has to do is wake up, press a button, wait a minute, put a cup in, and get coffee (and add creamer). He saves a few minutes, gets his coffee quickly, and doesn't have to clean up anything. He still buys prepackaged cups for the machine since he's too lazy to fill up reusables since he doesn't want to clean up and they're sometimes finicky when the machine pours.
Luckily I don't drink coffee so I don't bother with any of that, because otherwise since I'm so fucking lazy I'd probably go the same route and get my own machine and waste shitloads of money on cups.
I doubt DRM coffee will ever happen, it seems too easy to fool anyways. And then people would just buy knockoff machines to get around that.
Yeah, so?
Is putting some water into a kettle and flicking a switch actually something that is considered difficult now?
Pressing 2 buttons and putting a cup or teabag in is even easier.
It's like you don't understand what convenience is.

Because people can't really count. But take it this was. You get a 15-18 bar espesso machine for roughly a third the price of a non pod one and the machines tend to look nice.
I've considered getting one, but uh, didn't find any place that sells a reuseable pod :P

They sell the reusable pods at walmart here. Right next to the machine.

There's a point where the average person stops thinking something is "more convenient" and it's just lazy. Diminishing returns and stuff.
Not having to grind your beans is convenient, getting a $300 machine and $0.50/cup k-cups to shave 5 min off your morning routine just seems lazy to me.
I have one of these and it really does help with my day, When I have to go to work and all I have to do is plop in one of those cups and go to the restroom and come out and bam it's finished.
