Fucking McDonalds coffee is better than Starbucks and this is coming from a guy who likes a strong, dark coffee. Starbucks sucks hard and is extremely overpriced. Here in Canada we also have to deal with Tim Hortons, where their "coffee" is to real coffee like soft-serve is to genuine ice cream: it doesn't taste like balls but it's a far cry from the flavour and texture of the real deal (while costing almost as much or even more than the higher quality product) I buy whole arabica beans from a nearby Lebanese shop (which also sells fresh pita bread and baklawa, fuck yeah) and grind it at home right before brewing with a french press. It's extremely easy to do and surprisingly easy to clean everything. Cost me about $40 for the grinder and the press, and a bag of beans lasts quite a long time despite how strong I like it. I do actually have a single-cup Keurig brewer btw. I mostly use it to make coffee for visitors but I occasionally drink it too. It's not that bad, but it costs a lot. Even at Costco it works out to around $0.50 a cup (keep in mind this is Canadian prices, you Yanks should pay less). I estimate that buying whole beans I'm spending less than 10 cents on a cup of coffee. It's a big difference.
Maybe where you live the McDonalds coffee here is god awful, it taste like ash water. The starbucks here isn't bad depending on what store you go into. The one closest to me actually does a decent job. I'll still take my Keurig any day the week though.
How do you guys like your coffee? I prefer mine black as midnight on a moonless night. To contrast it, I also like it Vietnamese style with condensed milk.
Blacker than my heart. Tim Horton's lids on the other hand... Awful.
Keurigs are fast and easy to clean up, but for the 5-7 minutes my 14-cup brewing behemoth takes to make a much larger volume of coffee, I see no reason to sacrifice more money for additional speed I don't even need.
Starbucks is overpriced. You can literally make equally good coffee for a tenth of the price.
Like?
I loved my Keurig, personally. It was so nice to be able to pop down and have a fresh cup of yummy coffee within thirty seconds. My only real complaint with the machine was that the water reservoir started to cause scaling in the works. I started only getting half-cups instead of full cups, and they tasted foul. The Keurig's been sitting in my garage ever since, awaiting a proper descaling, as soon as I remember to take the time to descale it.
How do you guys like your coffee? I prefer mine black as midnight on a moonless night. To contrast it, I also like it Vietnamese style with condensed milk.
Depends on my mood. Usually I drink it with cream and no sugar (I get funny looks from the baristas but I don't care,) some days I'll drink it black, and some days I'll get a bit of sugar in it. Though as a whole I've been trying to cut the caffeine out of my life so I only have a cup maybe once a week, on the weekend, as a treat to myself. [editline]4th March 2014[/editline]
Like?
In terms of stores, Dunkin Donuts and Wawa have coffees that I find to be as good as the Starbucks coffees for cheaper. (If you have a Wawa near you, check out their Kona blend.)
I'm amazed that people buy this. Convinced the only reason these things sell is because it looks like a shiny nice appliance you can show off in your kitchen. It's such a huge waste of money. These machines don't make coffee that's any better or worse than a normal coffee maker that brews correctly with nice quality beans, but its twice as expensive and you'll be spending 4X more in coffee using their cup system. If quality is your concern, you'll get much better coffee just making it in a nice quality french press with beans you grinds yourself at the store (free) or at home if you want it fresher (you'll need a grinder, not more than $20-$40). Hell you don't even need to do that - just buy nicer quality coffee beans. Viola! Seriously, just buy some nice arabican whole bean coffee at the store, grind it at the store, and then make coffee with that. It'll taste so much better than Folgers, and taste just as nice (if not better) than a Keurig. The only place where a Keurig makes sense is in an office where people just make coffee on demand next to the water cooler as a company expense. Or in lobby's where your customers can make themselves coffee on demand while they wait.
I hope you realise not everybody has the mental capability to think like that. People who buy it buy it because others do it, or because they've heard it's cool or because 'better coffee!' without thinking it through.
since when was 'patenting a cartridge design so third party companies can't scoop profits from your thing' considered anything like 'digital rights management', it's not verifying who's using it, it's just giving them grounds to legally take action when people try selling knockoff cups and refillables. It's dumb given it's a little container but this is a practice as old as patenting itself. Hell, the mechanism could even be passed off as "just making sure the cup is properly seated to prevent it from trying to make coffee and leaking everywhere"

I can't order anything at Starbucks without sounding like a jackass. Unless it's something like 'hot water' which I'd never ask for anyway
I really think these machines are stupid, and only really good for being used in a workplace. A single cup of coffee with one of these costs more then it does to make a pot with a normal coffee maker
"visiting my son's grave. How could I let this happen?" what
Still processing why this is dumb
Everyone's taking about their Keurig, am I the only one with a Tassimo?
Maybe where you live the McDonalds coffee here is god awful, it taste like ash water.
Still processing why this is dumb
you just quoted the punchline and said "what" how is it not dumb
You are now banned from this coffee machine until 12/31/9999.
You are now banned from this coffee machine until 12/31/9999.
Kinect 2 included in each Keurig machine; bans you from coffee for the day for talking about Starbucks Xbox live becomes Keurig live [editline]5th March 2014[/editline]
Mcdicks coffee here is actually god tier good stuff. I noped the fuck out of there and never went back
macdonalds coffee tastes cheap as hell, in like 5 minutes it cools down to undrinkable levels, and the cups are awful i dont see what people taste in it
I vaguely recall an article about McDonald's buying Starbucks bean supplier
I vaguely recall an article about McDonald's buying Starbucks bean supplier
no they bought tim horton's old one

[editline]5th March 2014[/editline]
macdonalds coffee tastes cheap as hell, in like 5 minutes it cools down to undrinkable levels, and the cups are awful i dont see what people taste in it
it's pretty good, it's better than tim hortons coffee which tastes like watered down piss.
macdonalds coffee tastes cheap as hell, in like 5 minutes it cools down to undrinkable levels, and the cups are awful i dont see what people taste in it
because its like a dollar? most cheap coffee places are half as much as starbucks coffee, and ive actually found some of them to be better than starbucks.
It always seems like american mcdonalds that have terrible health and safety regulations.
It's not so much the regulations as it is just people being shitty at their job and not cleaning anything.
Worth it, plus the coffee things aren't even a problem. Unfortunately most of the people shit talking the Keurig's have probably never used them, funny because there are so many people that are extremely positive about the product, especially those who have bought it.
this times a thousand people will pay for convenience. keurig is convenient and cheaper than starbucks. I hate cleaning the coffee pot and measuring water and grinds it fucking sucks. of course if I had to I would but if I can pay extra for the convenience I'm going to in this case. people who are against keurigs are either poor or are coffee hipsters (definitely not mutually exclusive; hipsters are fucking bums) and hate convenience. basically it's not that we're just getting fleeced and we don't know. of course a keurig is more than your fucking grandfather's depression-era black coffee. who fucking cares though?
I'm still learning coffee, and can't make up my mind any of it so far, all I know is I like White Chocolate Mochas from Starbucks.
I'm no expert but I'm into coffee, here's my tips. Starbucks, and others like that, are good for mixed coffee drinks. Without spending extra money on coffee gear, you can't really do coffee drinks like that at home. If you like those frothy, steamed milk, chocolate drinks then a coffee shop is the best bet. At home I use the tried and true French press method. The advantage of this method is that it's cheap, a small French press costs very little. Plus you have total control over the coffee you use. Buy your beans anywhere you like, it doesn't matter. Downsides, you really need three things to get the most out of it. A digital scale, to measure out the proper amount of grams of coffee beans you will use. Also, a grinder to grind up the beans, since you SHOULD buy whole beans. Finally, buy freshly roasted beans. That is, beans that you'll use within two weeks(at most) of them being roasted. If you are going to use pre-ground coffee or whole beans that were roasted who knows how long ago you will ruin the whole point of using the French press. I'd also suggest buying standard cups of coffee at a few well reviewed coffee shops near you. This is so you know what a good cup of black coffee should taste like.
I can't order anything at Starbucks without sounding like a jackass.
well thanks for your input oh great arbiter of conversations but aren't you a hypocrite wasting a post on something you consider a waste of time?
dont worry about it and you just did it again! wasted post please try again

I'm having a hard time with this kuereg thing, isn't it just a coffee maker? what do they mean by pods [editline]5th March 2014[/editline] just looked it up, why the fuck would they prepackage so much coffee into such small amounts? it just seems like a huge waste of money and resources
