I'm having a hard time with this kuereg thing, isn't it just a coffee maker? what do they mean by pods [editline]5th March 2014[/editline] just looked it up, why the fuck would they prepackage so much coffee into such small amounts? it just seems like a huge waste of money and resources
Because its really convenient.
Because its really convenient.
is a regular coffee maker inconvenient for some people?
Nesspresso is still better anyway.
is a regular coffee maker inconvenient for some people?
Yes, but not all, as post in this thread have made apparent.
since when was 'patenting a cartridge design so third party companies can't scoop profits from your thing' considered anything like 'digital rights management', it's not verifying who's using it, it's just giving them grounds to legally take action when people try selling knockoff cups and refillables. It's dumb given it's a little container but this is a practice as old as patenting itself. Hell, the mechanism could even be passed off as "just making sure the cup is properly seated to prevent it from trying to make coffee and leaking everywhere"
So have a clause in the warranty that voids it if you use third-party coffee things. They'll alleviate themselves of any issues that might arise from people using poorly built cartridges, but not be seen as so outright hostile towards the consumer
Yes, but not all, as post in this thread have made apparent.
sounds tragic
Took a look at how much coffee is in the k-cup, it's about 10 grams. 96 pack of k-cups is $62, 1000~grams of average ground coffee is about $15. So you're paying 4x as much just to save yourself a precious minute or two, not including the amount of waste + hassle of cleaning out the cup. It just doesn't seem a viable way to make coffee at home, ever. Coffee beans are even cheaper if you buy a big bag so I guess that 4x would become 8x.
is a regular coffee maker inconvenient for some people?
You've never used a Keurig have you? Assuming you have kept the water tank filled, all you need to do is put a Kcup in the machine and press a button- coffee! You can't get more convenient than that. You throw the empty Kcup away so there's no cleanup afterwards either. For anyone who has limited time but still wants their cup of coffee, it can't be beat.
Bunn is still #1. Best $85 I have ever spent.
