Alcohol lower your IQ, cigarettes gives you cancer. Why is weed the bad guy
Yeah, we should make alcohol illegal!
...Wait, we already tried that? So how did that turn out?
Alcohol, pot, every other kind of drug and even caffeine is bad for people under 18 because their brains are still being developed. Any chemical imbalance will throw the process off so yeah its not just pot.
Caffeine eh?
I guess that explains why I feel like I'm getting dumber and dumber.
Either that or I'm exposed to idiots on the internet way too much
Man this thread turned into one giant shitfight fast
I never thought there were this many intolerant people on Facepunch.

Look how well prohibiting other drugs turned out now too. Most of the main dangers of even heroin and cocaine and other harder drugs stem from the black market and their illegality. And look how nobody uses any drugs too
i've smoked weed a few times and after a particular extreme high I've noticed I experience bouts of unable to remember words, always long words. Being an A student in English this is particularly worrying.
Is it because of the weed or because I had been on summer holidays for the 2 months prior and was merely in non-school mode?
I honestly don't even care at this point. It doesnt bother me about the testicular cancer because weed is very very popular. And how often does a portion of the stoner populous get testicular cancer. How often do you hear of testicular cancer? How often is it to stoners?
This is like eggs. Can researchers make up their mind about if they're bad or good so I can get high and make an omelet?

I have certainly noticed among pothead friends that they started to forget things after a while.

It's good for some things, bad for others. You'll just have to decide for yourself if the good outweighs the bad.

not many people can afford/have the free time to smoke absolutely every day. this study encompasses people who use it frequently, and are dependent on it. you're allowed to get high, just like you're allowed to get drunk, just do so infrequently and make sure you keep your brain active (and happy)
what is that supposed to mean
People here seem really selective towards the impressions that is potentially given to them.
There's a hundred of these studies every year both FOR and AGAINST marijuana with no particular one favouring. The truth is, we don't know if weed is good or bad, but at the end of the day it's safer than tobacco and alcohol! This is just mindless propaganda. I know people who have smoked weed everyday for 20 years and have well-paid professional jobs and functioning lives.
A SCIENTIFIC STUDY is not mindless propaganda, just because you don't agree with the results.
Anything in excess is bad for you.
And somethings are equally bad for you in lower quantities.
Consume 50g of weed and 50g or water, and the weed will be worse for you.
This is one of the worst arguments ever, literally on par with
#YOLO 420 BLAZE IT
Can someone tell me wherever the argument, that because marijuana usage is associated with low intellectual activity it is very likely that educational apathy caused this loss, is strong or not?

your argument isn't exactly great either, of course 50g of water is going to be better for you because it's one of the basic fucking constructs of life. it's a recreational activity, like drinking, raving, or masturbating. if you do it every second of the day of course you're going to see adverse effects; this study surrounds mostly marijuana dependence and the consequences of such psychological addictions. (i joke about the masturbating bit. unless you want to consider the pain of doing so)
have you even read the abstract yourself? of course smoking it frequently from the age of 13 is going to make you slightly less functional than people who don't.
Am I the only one who noticed Schizophrenia is spelled wrong?
And Jesus, this thread is just a bunch of nerds arguing about who has moar IQs that the other.
Yes people, the issue at hand is totally about that. It's not like weed has any health benefits or therapeutic uses...
hmm, my grandmother had schizophrenia
hope i haven't fucked myself over
Sounds about right.
I've always found people who claim drugs like weed are completely harmless delusional, or biased at best. If something, whatever it is, has those effects on you, then you have to expect some sort of drawback.

Okay, 50g of chocolate. The analogy remains the same. Everything can be bad for you in excess, but some things need less to be bad for you than others.
You need to consume less weed for it to be dangerous than for chocolate, butter, coke, banana or other such things.

Pretty much every medication ever has some sort of side-effect. Considering weed a medication does not negate its side effects either.

Lmao, I've always loved how anytime it's study on alcohol or tobacco having negative findings, it's completely undisputed.
As soon as it's weed, NO FUCK YOU, GOVERNMENT PROPAGANDA BULLSHIT THE MAN IS TRYING TO KEEP US FROM ASCENDING TO A HIGHER PLACE OF BEING

how much is irrelevant. there have been no studies as of yet to how much causes marijuana dependence or how much it takes for neurophysiological decay to take place, on an average; this is a study that correlates high frequency of intake with decrease in IQ (amongst a slight increase in potential for various mental health issues)- unless you want to pioneer a chocolate v marijuana study i would say it were pretty useless.
Well uh, duh? You shouldn't do drugs before you're fully developed. I'm waiting til I'm at least 25 to smoke weed again.
I'd much rather smoke weed erryday than drink every day. I'm sure the latter is 3994% more unhealthy.
They can't say that smoking causes a drop in IQ. Whats more likely is that the people that had a drop in IQ weren't smart people, hence them smoking heavily as young teens, and their IQ dropped not because of smoking, but because they weren't smart/didn't care.
I can say that low IQ will cause people to smoke, and say that people just need to be smarter. Its a hypothesis but it cant really be proven true.
IQ tests are stupid anyway.
Neuropsychological testing was conducted at age 13 y, before initiation of cannabis use, and again at age 38 y, after a pattern of persistent cannabis use had developed. Persistent cannabis use was associated with neuropsychological decline broadly across domains of functioning, even after controlling for years of education. Informants also reported noticing more cognitive problems for persistent cannabis users. Impairment was concentrated among adolescent-onset cannabis users, with more persistent use associated with greater decline. Further, cessation of cannabis use did not fully restore neuropsychological functioning among adolescent-onset cannabis users.
just make sure you don't grow dependent on it and you'll be fine.
Well good thing I only smoke in moderation. Maybe twice a month maximum is okay, right?
Anyone that smokes weed at 13 deserves to have a lower IQ
I'd much rather smoke weed erryday than drink every day. I'm sure the latter is 3994% more unhealthy.
Just wait until scout1 gets unbanned, tracks down your post and makes a remark about how you can't be exactly sure that alcohol is 3994% more unhealthy than pot.
Ideally, drugs shouldn't be used at all, especially in large quantities by irresponsible individuals, but as long as it doesn't get in the way of other things in life, I think it's fine. Studies, especially those dependent on individual results, do not always yield accurate results, but people should take this as a warning and prepare for things that might happen.
I wouldn't be surprised about the IQ thing. I've never met a full-on stoner who wasn't an idiot. Not the case with occasional smokers, I've noticed though.
Sucks for you? From my experience smart people smoke weed every day and stupid people smoke weed every day. What you just said is pretty DARE level intolerant. No weed is 100 percent safe, just like every drug, but I feel a mass circlejerk going on which is ironic since some of you are complaining about stoner circlejerks. Off the internet it's still widely viewed as Devil's grass.
