I guess I'll delay my micro-ATX downsize for a while, was hoping to switch just motherboard and case, but I guess it might be easier to sell motherboard + CPU anyway.
Dammit, I JUST got an a10-5800k. Guess ill have to bite the bullet and get a new mobo so I can have a new socket...
That's a low end processor in comparison to the chips that are already out.
Looks like it was developed in Intel Haifa R&D center, Israel. Cool.
How much do you think Skylake will be better than Broadwell? I'm thinking about getting a Pentium G3258 and since it uses LGA 1150 socket, Broadwell seems like an upgrade path.
That's a low end processor in comparison to the chips that are already out.
And? I wasn't saying its a super high end chip. I was acknowledging I was behind the times and need to upgrade.

The G3258 is starting to struggle in some newer games though, like the witcher, we're finally trying to move past 2 cores. And we'll see about Skylake, if this leak is to be believed, it's not going to be anything mind blowing.
Too bad for gaming a 3 year old CPU is still more than enough. I bet a 3570k won't be bottlenecking performance for at least another 2-3 years.

I'm waiting until something 2x as powerful as my 2500k for under $250 comes out, so in like 30 years at this rate.

The chip itself is only about 20% behind, but there are quite a few chipset features that people would benefit from. PCIe 3.0, USB 3.1, M.2, NVMe, more efficient system sleep are a few that come to mind.
My buddy ran an AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 until 2013, OC'd to 4.1GHz(!) It shit the bed gloriously after a night of DayZ mod shenanigans. Fuckin trooper though [editline]23rd May 2015[/editline] I've had my 2500k at 4.6ghz since 2011, I think skylake is about time for an upgrade. Might replace my brother's Phenom 9550 setup with my setup
Cool how did you get it to 4.6ghz what kind of heat sink do you have? I rarely use the computer but every time I do I cry because has decent stuffs (16gb ram, 4gb GTX 680) but is constantly bottle necked by shit processor.
Get an aftermarket heat sink and overclock that puppy it might not be as good as some of the newer CPU's but it might reduce the bottleneck somewhat.

With the die size and the fact that it's soldered on they can pretty reliably hit higher clocks than haswell.

Doesnt seem to bottleneck(Overclocked the CPU to 3.8~ GHZ though). Honestly, Games are still really bad at optimally using a CPU so far. I might upgrade in the future but I am really going to wait for the Zen incase AMD has something good(although I doubt that). There is really little reason to upgrade for my use.
Yeah, people are hoping this Skylake jump will be the same as the Lynnfield (1156) to Sandy (1155) jump. Which was huge.
I wouldn't get my hopes up.
I wouldn't get my hopes up.
Same here. The biggest difference with performance on Sandy wasn't really the IPC improvement, it was that combined with how far you could push those chips. Given the current spec sheet clock speeds, I'm not hopeful.
off topic why the fuck do Israeli facepunchers always try to make the thread about Israel?
I Just saw that it was developed in my home town and thought it was cool.
