he died like a true redshirt
[sp] i am a horrible horrible person thinking this, i really am sad he died [/sp]
Damn shame. I remember him being the only good part of Terminator Salvation, he was a great fit for Kyle Reese.
He was only 27, too young man. RIP

Dude had only just turned 20 when Terminator Salvation and Star Trek went into theatres.
Its really tragic to see such a promising young actor lose his life in such a freak accident. He had so much higher to climb.
This is really tragic, so young and such an unfortunate accident.
He was a promising actor, I'm shocked he's gone.
Fuck. This seems super weird.
Accidents and tragedy arrive when we least expect them. rip
He has that kinda "everyday guy" look, you'd never expect someone like him to die before they'd get to their 70s.
Man, Charlie Bartlett is one of my favorite movies. This is so sad and such a damn shame. RIP

Chekov is in the command branch. So, yellow shirt. Nice try though.
[sp] There was that one time he subbed in engineering and wore red but whatever [/sp]

Now I've gotta go watch Charlie Bartlett when I get off work.
Fucking hell. What a shitty way to start a day. :(

It's more of a joke from Neil Stevenson's red-shirts anyway, but damn he was young. I mean for a guy like him to get a big screen role at his age is just unheard of

Most definitely he was a talented actor. One of my favorites. Sorry if my post before came off as bitchy, didn't mean it to.
So Anton's car was a Jeep Grand Cherokee, the same model that was recalled for shifting to neutral when drivers thought they had shifted to park.

What a shitty way to die. Same thing almost happened to me with my Mitsubishi Montero.
What really gets me about this is...
LA police told CBS News that it appeared Yelchin had not properly put the car in park mode.
I mean, you're fucking marked on using the parking brake during drivers tests. Every vehicle on the road is required to have one. It's literally there to hold the car in case it slips out of gear. It's not even hard to use. You pull a handle.
Not singling Anton out specifically but why do so many people never use the goddamn parking brake?
Even I had to deal with a car last summer that ploughed through my front shrubs because he only left the car in park so when it popped out on its own it rolled down his driveway, across the road and into my yard.
Well. I don't think there will be any more star trek movies after this, I was just starting to warm up to them.

He drove a vehicle which, as stated above, was recalled at some point for shifting to normal when drivers thought it was in park. It's highly likely that this is what killed him.

Maybe they will switch to the Next Gen crew.

I posted this elsewhere, but Chekov could totally be reassigned to the Reliant or something. Keep him alive in universe. Best way to honor him.

The way I read that article it sounds like the problem is with the driver, not the transmission.
If you have to look at the shifter to see what gear you're in, you're doing it wrong. For example, if you need to click up twice to get it in Park from the gear you're in now, then you are NOT in Park if you don't click up twice, shifter position isn't what determines the gear you're in.
So what they're really saying is drivers are too dumb to work the transmission and need some kind of hand holding indicators to tell them what they should already know.
