• China building "Eco City" to prove model alternative

Maybe there was so much that I passed out and can't remember any of it China is still like 95% countryside though, so it's fine
Knowing China, every building will be made of lead and asbestos to save money, but at least there won't be smog. :v:
That is going to look ugly as hell come winter.
It was rather smoggy when I was there during July and August. It was much better during the olympics, this year I could barely see 1 km in front of me.
Qing Tuo Zi village? Never heard of it? Oh that's because that is the fishing village they are seizing under eminent domain to build this eco city. Well, *seized*. It's completely leveled now. No idea how many people were living there or what happened to them. Given what happened with the olympics, I can't imagine it is happy. Basically they are crushing the poor slums in order to construct an upscale eco-friendly commercial hub that nobody who lived there previously could possibly afford. China's total control of the internet and media allows them to placate the majority of their own population while a constitution that appears to be nice on paper helps keep other nations from breathing down their neck. In no way am I claiming that Chinese people in general are bad people, it is just their government that sucks.
In most of the cases they are being compensated with money or offered a house on another place. Of course that doesn't justify a whole village being leveled. But as you said it's the government in charge and not the people, it's a non democratic country after all.
Oh China, you so sirry.
But as you said it's the government in charge and not the people, it's a non democratic country after all.
In what fashion does that make it even remotely okay? And furthermore it is THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA. A republic is a form of government where the people retain control over the government. So not only are the people getting screwed royally by their dickwad leaders, but they are being screwed over in a country that claims to be a republic. Even the fucking NAME of the country is a blatant lie. [editline]06:47AM[/editline]
Yeah, their government sucks. Don't generalize 'China' as a whole. Their government is like Israels.
I don't really think you understand my point. When I talk about slave labor, I'm talking about CHINESE workers not being paid living wages by their government. It's their government that I take issue with. I take issue with their government because they are dicks to their own people and the people get absolutely no say in the *People's* Republic of China. [editline]06:53AM[/editline]
In most of the cases they are being compensated with money or offered a house on another place.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nail_house The government actually owns all the land. The only law that limits their ability to seize property is one that requires it to be only used for "public interest". Even then, if they are paid at all, it is almost universally less than 20% of the market value of the property.
Yeah as if similar nationalisation didn't occur in almost all countries across the world. - Various damn essentially flooded multiple villages, highways go where there were once houses, mines are on former villages, need I continue? I mean sure it's definitely terrible for the people living there, but it's something that happens all across the world. That isn't something I'd hold against the chinese. Instead I'd try to look for more important things. The public interest clause is applied almost universally everywhere. Which it even says on that wiki article you provided.
