Taliban are really, really dumb. Why won't they just go away? :<
well the US did kind of depose their peaceful leader and exchanged him for a very angry pro-west one
but hey I don't know a whole lot about this
And 1941... And 1812.
Although there was that one time in 1914...

...where it worked out pretty well.
Well if it is like the tet offensive it means that the Taliban will have greatly discredited our ability to actually protect anyone over there.
Except the Tet offensive was a massive failure for the Vietcong other than the political side of it, military wise, they were fucked in the ass.

Taliban inflicted this upon themselves when they refused to arrest and extradite osama bin laden and all of their al-qaeda operatives to the US.
[editline]16th April 2012[/editline]
By the way, didn't the Mongolians conquer Afghanistan?
So 10 years and they are still organized enough and have enough people to do this?
Wait, was Russia in Afghanistan before? if not, my god, these people fucked up.
provoking the russians is a bad and a stupid idea
i'm sure they know what happened in 1979
Yes, they remember the Soviets invading Afghanistan to support the corrupt, inept Communist regime in Kabul and initiated a reign of terror alongside the Government cronies.
If you honestly believe the Afghan people "provoked" the Soviets into invading Afghanistan in 1979, you're dumb.
And 1941... And 1812.
And 1914 and 1223.
Oh wait a minute
You see this is why the coalition can't leave Afghanistan, the Taliban will just go in and retake everything as soon as they leave.
If it was done to show that they aren't scared of any one, then pissing off the Russians was a really dumb idea.
"look at me mum my dick's in the bears mouth"
Taliban inflicted this upon themselves when they refused to arrest and extradite osama bin laden and all of their al-qaeda operatives to the US.
don't get me wrong I ain't defending them, just saying part of the reason why they don't just go away
By the way, didn't the Mongolians conquer Afghanistan?
They went through Russia, Russia said, "HEY LOOK! EUROPE IS RICH! PASS BY US!" The Mongolians never even went to Afghanistan, they knew it was a fuckhole.
Well poo. My dads in Afghan.
Fuck I hope the Russians go to Afghanistan. Been awhile since we had a Rambo movie.

No, but thanks for the quick assumptions.
I'm only talking about the damage the Russians did at the time. The taliban lost a lot of people compared to the Russian casualties during the invasion. And when i say provoke Russians i don't mean dick waving, these people are bombing areas and killing important people (and people in general)
i'm sure we can both agree that its absolute chaos
Pissing off Russia seems like the worst idea.
For the US, public appearance matters a lot. But Russia doesn't really seem to give a fuck about that.
The NY Times has a follow-up article, mostly talking about Afghanistan's police response. There was a pretty awesome paragraph, though.
While such large-scale attacks accomplish the classic terrorist goal of shaking people’s confidence and temporarily halting daily life, it does not necessarily win support for their cause. On Sunday, in at least one case, it rallied a cry of direct opposition.
In a moment of fellowship and perhaps reckless bravery as the assault began on the Parliament building, three lawmakers from disparate backgrounds decided to stay, even as rockets exploded just outside the compound. One, Muhammad Naim Hamidzai Lalai, the head of Parliament’s Internal Security committee, grabbed a PK machine gun from his bodyguard and headed for the roof of the Parliament.
“The Parliament is the house of the nation, and we are representatives of the people and we need to defend the nation’s house,” he said. “So I took the gun from my bodyguard and began shooting at the terrorists.”
He stopped when the Interior Ministry’s crisis response teams arrived, he said.
Actually, they did. It was administered by the Khwarezmian Empire at the time.
