And Transylvania too.
Transylvania is part of Romania, not a country.
Shit man, now i have to buy a new map.
Shit man, now i have to buy a new map.
Or just draw a line on your old one.
I drew borders on my globe with Magic Marker. [editline]8th July 2011[/editline]
Or just draw a line on your old one.
Goddammit, I thought I was ahead of the game. [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] Also this is a really good news thread.
I bet in the year 3000 there will either be one country or more than 500.
I bet in the year 3000 there will either be one country or more than 500.
Nihilistically speaking, I bet in the year 3000 there will be no countries. Or people, for that matter.
That national anthem is awesome.
Nihilistically speaking, I bet in the year 3000 there will be no countries. Or people, for that matter.
I bet there won't be such things as countries. People will just call it Earth and get on with life.
I haven't updated my world map since 2001 and that isn't going to change anytime soon
A great moment in histroy, hopefully peace prevails between the two nations.
The national anthem sounds ridiculous.
North Sudan is Best Sudan.
South Sudan is actually better Sudan.
The national anthem sounds ridiculous.
They tried to shove words with way too many syllables into it. It's your countries national anthem for christs sake! Put some effort into it!
Oh black warriors! Let's stand up in silence and respect, Saluting millions of martyrs whose Blood cemented our national foundation. We vow to protect our nation.
That's my favorite verse.
A great moment in histroy, hopefully peace prevails between the two nations.
Fuck no. Now they have a reason to declare war on each other again. That country will never ever be peaceful
Hail Kirr?
This is how all news threads should be made.
Fuck no. Now they have a reason to declare war on each other again. That country will never ever be peaceful
So it's either keep it unified and let the North control and ruthlessly oppress the South, or, separate them and control their interaction with each other. I wonder which one will get more innocent people killed? I can see your point though, peace will be extremely hard to achieve, but I'd like to stay optimistic.
South Sudan is actually better Sudan.
both of them are still hell-holes, though.
Fuck no. Now they have a reason to declare war on each other again. That country will never ever be peaceful
They had a referendum on whether to split. Almost 99% of now South Sudan wanted independence, there was even a majority (think it was like 60%) of Northern Sudanese who wanted it. They are accepting of each other, Sudanese are bros and a lot of interviews I saw with Northern guys said they were happy if they stayed together but also happy if they wanted independence, they are ok with it. This isn't like splitting Pakistan and India or Israel and Palestine, this was their doing, they wanted it, they sorted it for the benefit of all of them. The only people who would disagree and want to unite the two again are expansionist warlords who they fortunately do not have.
When i was in elementary school we still had globes that said USSR.. in 1996
African Notch
all because of the british twats that thought it was a good idea to try to separate them like they did
A western nation convincing another nation to split into North and South for primarily their own concerns and then subsequently causing years of turmoil? Where have I heard this before?
A western nation convincing another nation to split into North and South for primarily their own concerns and then subsequently causing years of turmoil? It wasn't for our benefit either, we have nothing to gain from it whereas they get a proper country instead of being an oppressed minority. It's not even the start of the turmoil, they've had 2 civil wars already with and a third was looking promising, this can only help.

Britain invaded in 1898, and at the time, Egypt was quite keen on the idea of unifying itself with Sudan. Britain feared that the countries united could pose a threat to their rule in Africa, so they did everything they could to stop it from happening. In 1924, they split Sudan into two separate administrations: a mainly Muslim, Arabic-speaking and Arabic-cultured north, and a mainly Christian, English-speaking, culturally sub-Saharan south. To ensure the two sides would never unite, they encouraged the two groups to stay separate and not to trade with each other, or learn the language of the other side. The Sudanese people wanted reunification though, and in 1946 Britain finally granted it. They made Arabic the new official language and everything was fine.

The most recent date there is 1946, we're talking about what has happened since then, and really everything wasn't fine. The current split is their doing, with no influence from the west, undoing what the west did really.
A great moment in histroy, hopefully peace prevails between the two nations.
LOL, I don't think it will. All it will do is make the killing legal.
